Museums

Seattle Art Museum

Since 1933, SAM, as it’s affectionally known by locals, has been the visual arts center of the Pacific Northwest. With three locations, including the Olympic Sculpture Garden and the newly renovated Seattle Asian Art Museum, SAM is home to art that spans global geographies from ancient history to modern masterpieces. Combined, the collection represents the PNW as a crossroads of cultures and ideas, as well as a testament to the region’s history of building bridges between them.

Museum of Flight

As the birthplace of Boeing, it’s only logical that Puget Sound is home to the largest independent non-profit air and space museum in the world. The Museum of Flight is a collection of more than 150 aircrafts ranging from gliders to lunar modules from the first century of flight. Artifacts on display include uniforms, medals and pins, models, aircraft instruments, and engines. The onsite library is an aviation enthusiast’s dream, holding tens of thousands of books, manuals, journals, and media clippings.

Washington State History Museum

The Washington State Historical Society was established in 1891 to preserve the state’s history, which it now shares at the Washington State History Museum in Tacoma. From early Native American culture to the fauna that now call this place home, artifacts and informative displays at the museum tell a diverse range of Washington’s stories, including those about centuries of immigration, local industry and how we use our natural resources, and how the tools of media and communication connect us all.

Puget Sound Navy Museum

Washington State is proud of its military history. Nowhere is this pride more evident than at the Puget Sound Navy Museum in Bremerton. The museum first opened in 1954 and is now one of ten museums operated by the United States Navy. Visitors can dive into naval history by getting a feel for daily life on the USS Nimitz, touring the Patrol Boats of Puget Sound exhibit, and exploring the thousands of artifacts in historic Building 50.

Museum of Glass

The Museum of Glass is the premier destination to admire the beauty that can be rendered from fire and a deft hand. The catalyst for change in what had been a long-neglected part of Tacoma, the museum is now the center of a thriving arts center, with six other museums within walking distance. In addition to curating a treasure trove of stunning glass art, the Museum of Glass is a maker’s space. Workshops for children and adults let you try your hand at glassmaking, or you can simply admire the skill of the artisans at work.

Museum of Pop Culture

The Museum of Pop Culture is as much about interactive experiences as it is about marveling at some of pop culture’s most iconic artifacts. The building itself, which was designed by legendary architect Frank O.
