ABOUT MIAMI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Miami International Airport (MIA) is Miami-Dade County’s leading economic engine, generating $118 billion annually and contributing approximately 700,000 direct, indirect, and related jobs to the local economy. Founded in 1928, MIA is America’s busiest airport for international freight and the second busiest for international passengers. MIA offers more flights to Latin America and the Caribbean than any other U.S. airport and boasts a lineup of over 90 air carriers.

Under the leadership of Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and the Board of County Commissioners, MIA’s Modernization in Action Plan is investing an unprecedented $9 billion in capital improvements and

upgrades, transforming MIA into a FUTURE-READY, worldclass hub for generations to come. The M.I.A. Plan is paving the way to welcome approximately 77 million travelers and move 5 million tons of freight by 2040.

• Two consecutive record-breaking years of passenger traffic in 2022 and 2023

• MIA served 52.3 million passengers in 2023, which was 1.6 million more passengers than the previous year and an increase of 3%

• Cargo traffic at MIA was up half a percent for a new annual record of 2.8 million tons in 2023 and four consecutive years of growth

• Fastest-growing mega U.S. airport in seat capacity from 2020 to 2023, according to Airports Council International-North America

CONVEYANCE MODERNIZATION

Two maintenance contracts were approved in 2023 for upgrades to more than 600 elevators, escalators, and passenger-moving walkways. To date, 32 modernizations have been completed.

UPGRADES AND RENOVATIONS TO MORE THAN 200 AIRPORT RESTROOMS

Cost: $101 Million

New design contract approved in 2023. To date, 46 renovations have been completed. Concourse H completed: Spring 2024

• Shortest average security wait time in Florida and 6th-shortest average wait time in the U.S. at 10.4 minutes, according to a 2023 study by travel industry publication Planet Ware
