How to Fix "Server DNS address could not be found" error in Windows 10


Solution 1: Delete all the files in etc folder

Many users reported that you can fix DNS Server problem simply by deleting all the files in the etc folder. To do that, follow the steps below:

Step 1. Open File Explorer in Windows 10 by pressing Windows Key + E. Then you select This PC and navigate to:

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc 

Step 2. Here you delete all the files in the etc folder.

Step 3. Restart your computer and check the problem has resolved.


Solution 2: Clear DNS cache 

In case if the "Server DNS Address Could Not Be Found" problem caused by an Extension, you can also clear DNS cache in Google Chrome. To do that, you need to open Incognito Mode in Chrome and perform following steps:

Step 1. First, you press Ctrl+Shift+N to open incognito window.

Step 2. In the address bar, type chrome://net-internals/#dns and press Enter.

Step 3. On the next screen, locate the Clear Host Cache button and click it.

Step 4. Then you open Command Prompt as Administrator.

Step 5. When Command Prompt opens, type below command and press Enter

ipconfig /flushdns 

Now you wait until the command executed successfully, then restart your computer.


Solution 3: Renew and flush the DNS To fix DNS server cannot be found, you should able to renew and flush the DNS by using Command Prompt. 

Step 1. First, open Command Prompt as an administrator.

Step 2. In Command Prompt window, type below command and press Enter one by one.

ipconfig /flushdns ipconfig /renew ipconfig /registerdns 

Step 3. Lastly, restart your system and check if the problem persists.


Solution 4: Update Google’s Public DNS 

Step 1: Press Windows Key + X and select Network Connections. Here, you select your Ethernet Connection or Local Area Connection and right click it and select Properties.

Step 2. From the connection property sheet, you select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) once so that it becomes highlighted in grey and then click Properties.

Step 3. Next, you put check on Use The Following DNS Server Addresses and type the following for Alternate DNS Server and Preferred DNS Server.

Preferred DNS SERVER: 8.8.8.8 Alternate DNS SERVER: 8.8.4.4 

Step 4. Lastly, you save changes by clicking OK. Now you restart your PC and check the problem has resolved.
