About the Designers Get to know more about the six flag bearers of Filipino fashion in the IFS 2014 who are up to amaze the world with their vibrant styles.
Manila Wear In London Gracing the exhibitions of the acclaimed global fashion destination of the world are our very own emerging talents in the fashion and accessory design industry. This as the Center for International Trade Expositions and Mission (CITEM) with the Garment and Textile Industry Development Office (GTIDO) as the forefront brings to London, Manila Wear; Fashion Philippines—the collection of top fashion and fresh accessory designs and apparels made from indigenous materials that are proudly Filipino. Manila Wear will participate in the International Fashion Showcase (IFS) 2014 to be held in 180 The Strand at the Somerset House on February 14 to 18. The IFS 2014 is a product of the first ever collaboration of the British Council and British Fashion Council to take place in one of the tagged “big four international catwalk influencers” and among the highest profile fashion events in world, the London Fashion Week. The six vibrant and emerging Filipino designers: Jun Artajo, Tipay Caintic, Joel Escober, Adante Leyesa, Ken Samudio and Olivia d’ Aboville, will serve as brand ambassadors for Manila Wear. Through their designs, they will showcase what the Philippines and its culture is about — fresh and fun but barely drifting from traditional and contemporary. The British Council and the British Fashion Council launched the IFS in 2012 to celebrate London’s position as international fashion city with a reputation for nurturing emerging talent. The IFS will showcase more than 30 embassies and cultural institutions in various fashion exhibitions across London. Alongside the Philippines, other countries joining the IFS include Argentina, Austria, China, Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Nigeria, Paraguay, Portugal, Slovakia and Vietnam. Countries including Brazil, Jamaica, Japan, Korea, Panama, Quebec (Canada), Romania, Scandinavia (Denmark, Norway, Sweden),Tanzania, and The Netherlands will meanwhile display their respective designs in satellite exhibitions across the city. Buyers and International press will have a chance to explore the works of each country participant and speak with its respective designers.
With opportunities like this slew in the purses of our promising fashion innovators and designers, a future embellished with glitz for our young and seasoned talents in fashion and design is not formidable to define—perhaps, London today; tomorrow, the world.
