CEO’s MESSAGE Ross Anderson and very late withdrawal this year from Bob Campbell MW, the representative New Zealand judge, due to an accident at home. Fortunately, well known New Zealand wine judge Terry Copeland stepped in to replace Bob which resulted in a seamless transition. The good news is that Bob is on the mend, and we look forward to welcoming him back to judge in 2020. 2019 saw a changing of the guard behind the scenes, with Alistair Dunn taking over control as Head Steward and running a very accurate, smooth and professional operation – I look forward to many more years working closely with Alistair. A big advancement in 2019 was the implementation of the fully electronic judging system built in-house and used throughout the judging. The net result is archives of very detailed and insightful data which we intend to analyse and share with participants and the industry at large over the coming months. My thanks go to Ash Reynolds from ABIA for the countless late nights and determination to build what is truly world class judging software. How exciting it is that after 10 months of preparation, countless emails, constant domestic and international phone calls, 100s of spreadsheets, international flights and wine logistics from five countries, hours of design, early mornings, late nights and incalculable communications can now be summarised as 16 trophy-winning wines. However there is so much more to this than just 16 Trophy wines. Every single bottle selected and entered into this challenge – all 600, are already representatives at the highest level of winemaking for their respective variety, wine estate, region, winemaker and country. As Michael Fridjhon, Chairman for 2018 & 2019 so aptly put it,”There is no wine competition quite like the Six Nations. All trophy and medal-winning wines are virtually self-endorsing. The producers who find themselves going home empty handed can console themselves with the knowledge that it is almost sufficient simply to have competed in the Olympics. An award is gratifying, the achievement is simply to have been there.” The 2019 season was yet another highly successful one, if not extremely challenging at times. I’ve come to realise that rolling with the punches is the only way to remain sane whilst co-ordinating this beautiful monster. Freight

Anyone willing to mine these results could discover a treasure trove of fabulous wines, many of which had not existed a decade previously. This situation prevails today, though with marked changes: the South Americans, beset by their own economic crises, are under-represented, while the North American entry has introduced a wealth of extraordinary and finely made submissions. Suddenly the Six Nations Wine Challenge is truly a New World Wine Competition, a showcase presenting the great and good from the most vibrant wine industries on earth. Those who now unpack its results will easily be able to discover the finest – and best value –

NAMYSTO ORNAMENTS IN THE UKRAINE In certain African cultures, such necklaces are worn to this day, not only as adornments, but signifying a deep symbolic significance. Colours, materials and number of rows signified a woman’s social status and many women would feel naked leaving the house without wearing their “namysto.” In modern culture these necklaces are again being worn by women across the globe, but merely for decorative purposes and no longer for any social status reasons. We’ve chosen this range to signify the coming together of different cultures, and to remind us how our differences ignite creativity and excitement.

The smart money now follows them on an annual basis to see, measure and understand the pace of change in the world of wine. Today the competition is unrecognisable compared to how it was fifteen years ago. Australian wine is less obviously “sunshine in a bottle,” Kiwi wine is more confident, Cape

Another stellar class and a class that continues to serve as ambassadors for global unity. The wines showed more similarities than differences; there was little contrast on overt oak character; instead they reflected a global expression of delicate red fruits, firm but supple textures and expression of terroir over style.

HEARTS IN MARLBOROUGH since 1980 ROOTS IN CHAMPAGNE since 1684
CUVÉE ADELE VINTAGE 2013 This limited edition vintage cuvée crafted especially by Daniel is a proud tribute to his wife Adele. It comes in a beautifully designed gift box andthe bottle is decorated with Swarovski crystals. The wine tastes as good as it looks: vibrant aromas of yellow florals and white stone fruits intermixed with subtle aromas of fresh bread yeast and hints of minerals. A taut and angular palate and a honeyed aftertaste.
