Seasons
greetings
Fine wines, personally selected, and delivered direct to you! Behind all its bright lights and lavish decorations, Christmas is essentially about sharing time. We were reminded of this when we contacted our winemakers to tell us how they spent their Christmas for this, our 25th, Christmas brochure. It seems that at this special time of year, whether they are down under in Australia or snowed under in Austria, even our most dedicated winemakers want to put work on hold and share time with their loved ones.
Put Your Feet Up
We know you will want to do the same so the aim of our Christmas service is to save you time. As the high streets begin to swarm with shoppers, you can put your feet up with our guaranteed 48 hour delivery to any address in Ireland. Of course it helps if we can save you a little bit of money along the way too and, with savings of over 20% and free delivery on selected cases or orders over €200, we’re doing exactly that.
Make it a Gift
Make any of these exclusive cases the perfect gift by getting us to deliver direct to your friends or family. To make it even more personal, you can include our brand new, Martyn Turner designed Christmas card with your very own message handwritten inside. Whether it’s a one-liner or an epic poem, our team will loyally transcribe your Christmas greeting (although perhaps don’t make it too epic).
h Keogh (L to R); It’s a family affair! Gavin, Siobhan and Garet celebrating 25 years of Wines Direct in 2016.
We hope you enjoy browsing our Christmas brochure. Did we tell you it’s our 25th one? Time flies when you’re having fun they say, but even more so when you’re sharing that time with loved ones. So from our family to yours, have yourself a merry little Christmas and here’s to time well spent! Happy Christmas and a peaceful and prosperous New Year!
Create-Your-Own
All our cases feature wines we think are at the peak of their power in terms of taste and value but we know many of you have your own personal favourites. If you don’t see a case you like, simply turn to page 28 where you can choose from our ‘Mix and Match’ list of over 70 wines. Combine any six or more of these selected wines and receive an automatic discount of 10%.

Brandl Family
Austria
Frohe Weihnachten aus Österreich! As the vineyards sleep quietly under a blanket of snow in the Kamptal Valley, winemaker Gunther Brandl and his family can afford a few days off together. “Christmas is generally quiet and we only want to spend time with our family, not the vines,” Gunther said before explaining that they are not quite the typical Austrian family at Christmas. “We don’t have a traditional dinner in our house; one year it’s salmon, another year it could be a cold meat dish. We do tend to have fondue on Christmas eve…and our Grüner Veltliner is set aside for schweinsbraten, a roasted pork dish with dumplings and pickled cabbage.”

Borthwick Family

Ka hari te Kirihimete i Aotearoa!
With harvest just around the corner (usually February/March) it is pretty busy down in Paddy Borthwick’s North Island vineyard. They do get some time off though and Paddy, who grew up on a sheep farm, told us: “I often put sheep down in the vineyard over the Christmas break so they can eat the leaves undisturbed.” So, is it lamb for Christmas dinner then? “No. We have a more traditional style dinner like you in Ireland; turkey with all the trimmings like bread sauce, potatoes, veg etc. We often chill our Pinot Noir to have with the turkey and if you leave it to warm up, it goes perfectly with the pudding!”

Feliz Navidad de la Argentina!
This Christmas is a special one in the Balbo household. Winemaker Susana Balbo’s daughter Ana, is expecting a baby boy. “Santino will be the first grandchild in our family so this means there will be lots of celebrations,” Ana told us proudly and we wish her all the best at this exciting time. In the country of mighty Malbec and even mightier steaks, what is on the Balbo’s Christmas table? “There is always pork with apple puree,” Ana explained, “and vitel toné, a local favourite made of thin, cold slices of veal with a tuna, anchovy and mayonnaise sauce. Empanadas, of course, make an appearance too and are amazing with chimichurri sauce.”

Hallett Family
Australia
Happy Christmas from Australia! Christmas in the remote regions of Western Australia strikes quite the contrast to our mid-winter celebrations. “Our traditional Christmas dinner is actually a lunch and is usually outside,” explained Rod Hallett, one half of the winemaking team along with his wife Sandy. He continued: “We sit down with our extended family and three daughters and there are usually plenty of stories to be told. We have an array of cold meats, salads, and fresh seafood. Prawns are a favourite and, as it is often a hot summer’s day, we wash them down with chilled sparkling wine. Sauvignon Blanc complements them perfectly too, particularly if they are in a garlic and butter sauce.”

Portugal
Feliz Natal de Portugal! All is quiet on the Roquette’s terraced vineyards at Christmas time. “Everyone is at home with family,” exclaimed Miguel Roquette. “We close the estate so that all the workers can enjoy this magic season with loved ones.” Miguel then went on to describe their festive spread: “We have our dinner on Christmas Eve. Typical in this part of northern Portugal is roast cod and roast octopus (polvo no forno) with potatoes and vegetables. For desserts, we would always have rabanadas which is traditional bread cooked in honey, cinnamon, sugar and Port.” And just what does a port maker recommend with port? “A good table of cheese – cheddar, gouda or brie and good company!”

Meet the Winemakers Ani Y This is 100% Tempranillo, the famous red variety of Rioja. The winemaker is Asunción Yebenez and down here near Ciudad Real the summers are long and hot which results in extremely ripe grapes and concentrated flavours that makes them perfect for easy drinking. It is proving to be one of our most popular wedding wines and it’s easy to see why with its fruity, approachable style.
Al Be For six generations the Barreau family has resided in the commune of Grezillac. To this day they continue their tradition of winemaking and own both Château HautGarriga and Château Coitreau. The vineyards are located on the highest slopes overlooking St Emilion. Anyone looking for an alternative to Sauvignon Blanc, while not straying too far off the mark, will be well rewarded with this immediately likeable wine from Entre Deux Mers.
Aesnr N Dr. di Nieri works primarily with Sangiovese, the famous grape of Chianti, on vineyards which are on average about 200m above sea level. Grapes are grown in clay soil with various minerals and trace elements which give complexity to the finished product. It is aged for a few months in tonneaux (very large oak tanks) which reduces the surface contact with the wood. This means oak is not the main player but rather an assistant in the development of the wine’s flavour and texture. Wines Direct | 6

POGGIO ALLA LUNA 2013 Chianti, Italy Sangiovese Bright flavors of black and red cherry greet the palate, held together by ample acidity and medium tannins. An open nose of fresh, ripe black cherries. CHATEAU HAUT-GARRIGA 2014 Bordeaux A/C, France Semillon “A wonderful fresh, crisp, dry white, made entirely from Semillon (and therefore Sauvignon-free) with zesty lemon, green apple and melon fruits, finishing bone dry. It is low in alcohol and would make a perfect partner for seafood or as a mouthwatering aperitif.” John Wilson, The Irish Times DOMAINE PREIGNES LE VIEUX 2013 Vin de Pays d’Oc IGP, France Syrah “An exotic bouquet of meaty pork and purple-skinned fruits typifies Syrah. Delicious black-berry fruits with graphite mineral flavours. Barbecue sausages with a spicy, smoky sauce.” Liam Campbell, The Irish Independent 1605 TEMPRANILLO 2013 La Mancha DO, Spain Tempranillo A soft and juicy Spanish red made from the famous grape of Rioja. This is made for easy going, lazy evening reclining. No oak, no complications; just simple pleasure.

Pasc Cie Pascal Cuisset cuts a prominent figure in the vineyards of Bergerac. Strongly built and prone to exuberant gestures, he has the tough hands of a man who has spent a lifetime working outdoors. We still remember the strength of his grip the first time he shook our hands. Pascal’s three passions are wine, the tuba and rugby. He is a colourful fixture at local events as leader of the local brass band, so it’s no wonder his wines are so expressive. He loves working with the classic Bordeaux varietals and his white is a wonderfully lively blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, perfect for drinking on its own.
What's in the Case? BLANCO NIEVA 2014 Rueda DO, Spain Verdejo “Textbook Rueda with its pithy grapefruit and light pears. It is not too aromatic, a good thing in my book, and the fruit is crisp and stylish.” John Wilson, The Irish Times CHATEAU DES EYSSARDS 2014 Bergerac Sec, France Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon “Bergerac, lying just outside the confines of Bordeaux, can offer some great value wines. The Chateau des Eyssards is a perfect example, with floral grassy aromas, light green fruits on a racy but stylish centre-palate, finishing dry. Great by itself or with lighter fish and seafood.” John Wilson, The Irish Times
Lr Rott Laura Rizzotto and her family tend vineyards on a beautiful, southern facing hillside, 50km from Lake Garda. This is Soave Classico land, deep in the hillsides of the larger Soave region. The Garganega grape reaches its peak expression on this volcanic terrain. The Rizzotto’s harvest their grapes by hand and limit their yields by careful pruning to concentrate the grapes’ flavour, making wines with a wonderful sense of place.
“Perfumed pear-drops aroma follows with pear and lemon flavours in an oily, waxy texture. Classic soave. Match with chicken fried rice with ginger and scallions.” Liam Campbell, The Irish Independent SAN SIMONE RONDOVER ROSSO 2013 Delle Venezie IGT, Italy Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Refosco Intense ruby red wine with an earthy and perfumed nose. Charming fruit-of-the-forest flavours and a bitter-sweet character dominate the palate before finishing wonderfully dry and long. CHATEAU DES EYSSARDS CUVEE PRESTIGE 2011 Bergerac Rouge A/C, France Merlot, Cabernet Franc
J Hr Ve This zippy Spanish white is made from Verdejo and is one to woo Sauvignon Blanc fans. It is moreishly refreshing with tangy grapefruit and yellow apple flavours making it the perfect apperitif. Made by Javier Herrero Vedel, the vines are grown on ancient vineyards that were tended by the Jeronimo monks for centuries (nothing to do with the famous Apache)! He works with his two brothers and they harvest the grapes at night to ensure the wine is as crisp and fresh as possible. Wines Direct | 8

It’s voluptuous, stylish and seductive.” Tom Doorley, The Irish Daily Mail GUERINDA TRES PARTES TINTO ROBLE 2013 Navarra DO, Spain Grenache Herbs and violets on the nose. Silky smooth, well integrated tannins hint at the quality of winemaking. Beautiful spice and voluptuous red fruits confirm it. Shows what Garnacha can do.

Susn Bb South America is often caricatured by its brash machismo but Susana Balbo’s nuanced and dextrously made wines stand out from a male milieu. It would not be overstating it to say that she is the Queen of Malbec in Argentina, a nickname earned over years of progressive and determined winemaking. This has imbibed her wines with a quality that sets it apart from many New World wines and we have yet to come across a mouthful better than her Malbec with a juicy chunk of juicy steak.
I Pv Winemaker Irene Paiva is one of many pioneering women that we’re fortunate to work with. She achieves charismatic wines with ease in the Lontue Valley, a premium region for much of Chile’s best known wines. The Korta estate benefits from the meandering Lontue River as it trickles its way down the Andes towards the Pacific Ocean. This is vital in a region which has only trace amounts of rainfall. Irene’s vineyards are uniquely protected from harsher elements by a coastal range to the west and the Andes to the east which helps her achieve a really ripe, zesty Sauvignon.
M Lly Mark Lloyd is one of the most experimental winemakers we’ve come across. He began planting Italian varieties in the mid-80s having spent much of his time studying the ancient winemaking techniques in Tuscany and Piedmont. The great grapes of France were his next challenge and Mark is one of the Chenin Blanc pioneers in Australia. On the day we first arrived at Coriole, Mark’s team had just begun harvesting the Chenin and they were picking by hand in the cool evenings to help preserve fruit freshness. Wines Direct | 10
What's in the Case? ALKOOMI 2012 Frankland River, Australia Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot Soft and smooth, redolent with aromas of cassis, blueberry, and savoury cigar box; drinking well now although will gain complexity over the next three to five years. CRIOS TORRONTES 2014 Valle de Cafayate, Argentina Torrontes “Torrontés is a uniquely Argentinean grape, white with some Muscat lodged in its ancestry somewhere. It has Muscat’s spiciness with a bit of extra-scented rose petal. It’s as seductive as it sounds in this example, fermented quite dry, enjoying a zippy backbone. It can age up to a decade.” Tom Doorley, The Irish Daily Mail KORTA RESERVA CARMENERE 2013 Lontue Valley, Chile Carmenere A wonderfully ripe and expressive example of Chile’s signature varietal. Smokey, rich, and spicy with some earthy notes amidst the cherry flavours. CRIOS MALBEC 2013 Mendoza, Argentina Malbec “Leafy, peppery, floral. Mashed cherries. Good fruit juice core, spicy breadth, persistent and appealing. Dense currant and cassis on the nose. Characteristic and interesting.” Gold Medal, Argentina Wine Awards KORTA FOR TWO 2014 Lontue Valley, Chile Sauvignon Blanc This Sauvignon Blanc from Chile has a light straw colour with fresh melon aromas. Vibrant palate full of ripe citrus fruits. A crisp and zingy Sauvignon Blanc with a long, refreshing finish. A great crowd pleasing white wine! CORIOLE 2013 McLaren Vale, Australia Chenin Blanc “McLaren Vale is better known for its rich reds (eg. GSM) than Chenin Blanc but the grape has in fact a long history in the region. This has a lovely intensity of ripe fruit cut by searing crisp acidity - the two things that make Chenin such a star in the vineyards of Vouvray in the Loire and, it seems, in South Australia.” Leslie Williams, The Irish Examiner

Mi Ro The Douro Valley in Portugal is one of the most improbable regions for grape growing in the wold. Sheer cliffs overlook the sleepy river as it cuts its way from Spain to the Atlantic and soils of crumbling, flaky schist withstand tortuously hot summers and skin-cracking winters. Clinging to the valley sides at gasp-inducing angles is the stunning vineyard of Quinta do Crasto, run by the Roquette family. However, it is not for the view that we chose their wines. Your first sip of their intense wines will give you the real reason.
Feic Mric The rolling hills of Abruzzo, protected by the Apennines to the west and influenced by the Adriatic breezes from the east, combine to create the perfect microclimate for a juicy, bittersweet style of red such as this. It is made by Federica Morricone on her stunning vineyard deep in the Teramo hills. The wine’s generous body is thanks to 20 days resting on the skins during fermentation and it doesn’t see a splinter of oak in its creation, making it a very accessible and fruitforward wine. Federica is one of our newest winemakers but already her wines have found lots of fans in Ireland.
Clo S Per Laguardia in Rioja is a beautiful hilltop town surrounded by ancient stone walls that were used to defend the historic kingdom of Navarra. As Carlos showed us around his home town it became apparent that he was known and respected by the locals. A nod of the head here, a demonstrative greeting there; we wondered how he could be so well known. When we visited the local tapas bars and restaurants we soon found out though. Carlos’ Riojas were in all of them! Wines Direct | 12

Crisp, minerally and stylish.” Tom Doorley, The Irish Daily Mail VINA CONSTANTINA CRIANZA 2011 Rioja DO, Spain Tempranillo “This is the very antithesis of a big brand Rioja, very deliberately made in the traditional way which means more flavour and complexity. Lovely deep colour, plenty of spicy American oak apparent on the nose and a generous wallop of smooth Tempranillo on the palate.” Tom Doorley, The Irish Daily Mail GUERINDA LA BLANCA 2013 Navarra DO, Spain Chardonnay “Succulent sweet tropical fruit nose, ditto palate, lemon curd taste and texture, good length.” Raymond Blake, Food and Wine Magazine VILLAMEDORO 2012 Abruzzo DOC, Italy Montepulciano “Montepulciano is the workhorse red grape of Abruzzo, Marches, Molise and much of Central and Southern Italy. It can be rather light and insubstantial or a rich and juicy crowd-pleaser such as this example which has supple tannins, fleshy plum-flavoured fruit and touches of spice and smoke.” Leslie Williams, The Irish Examiner BIDOLI 2014 Grave del Friuli DOC, Italy Pinot Grigio Pear and apple aromas dominate the nose which echoes the lively tangy freshness of the well balanced palate. Its good length mixes well with the refreshing fruit.

Meet the Winemakers Pad Bi Wairarapa gets its name from a Maori word meaning “glistening waters” after the suitably shimmering lake that lies at the heart of the region. This is where we discovered Paddy Borthwick, the rather rugged sheep farmer who swapped the staff for the vine when he was in his 20s. He left home to study oenology in Australia before becoming a travelling winemaker working in some of the world’s finest wine regions. In Burgundy he fell in love with Pinot Noir and he returned home to put his study into practice. The results are award-winning.
Ais Pi As the brains behind Four Sisters and Tahbilk, Alister Purbrick is one of the best known winemakers in Australia. The former is one of the country’s most famous labels while Tahbilk is one of its most historic, a beautiful old winery in the Nagambie Lakes region of Victoria. The property comprises lands of rich river flats along the Goulburn River and a maze of permanent backwaters and creeks. The name ‘Tahbilk’, rather appropriately, is the Aboriginal term for ‘place of many waterholes’.
T Htt Western Australia is the final frontier of grape growing in the land down under. Here, Sandy and Rod Hallett represent the pioneers of Wild West winemaking. The Alkoomi winery is miles from any town or village at the Southern tip of Western Australia. It is a beautiful part of the world, surrounded by natural and undisturbed forests that have yet to be discovered by the backpacking fraternity. When we visited them for the first time, we really got a sense of place as we passed a sign that ushered us into “the last restaurant before Antarctica”! Wines Direct | 14

On the palate, delicacy and harmony from strawberry and raspberry.” Ernie Whalley, The Sunday Times ALKOOMI 2012 Frankland River, Austrtalia Sauvignon Blanc “Estate-grown grapes are picked at varying levels of maturity to add complexity to a wine that sees no oak and is early bottled. As befits a wine with a preponderance of Semillon, grassy/lemony characters drive the bouquet and palate, which has considerable generosity and length.” James Halliday CORIOLE REDSTONE 2012 McLaren Vale, Australia Shiraz
“A glorious McLaren Vale Shiraz with a great deal of Australian

CHATEAU SAINTE-MARIE ALIOS 2012 Cotes de Bordeaux A/C, France Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot “From a classic blend of Merlot, Cabernet and Petit Verdot, this is a supple, ripe wine with lightly spicy blackcurrant and cassis.” John Wilson, The Irish Times DOMAINE DE LA TREILLE 2014 Fleurie A/C, France Gamay “The cheapest in the tasting was also the most rounded with lovely clean cherry fruit.” Ernie Whalley, The Sunday Times DOMAINE DE NANCELLE 2014 Macon Villages A/C, France Chardonnay (unoaked) “A Chardonnay with all the lively acidity of Burgundy. Meet the Winemakers Pai Cr It’s a tight knit family affair at this small, rural winery with husband and wife Patrick and Nathalie joined by their son, Pierre. Like all of our winemakers, their ideology is minimal interference in the winemaking process, letting the natural influences of the soil and climate in the Mâcon come shining through their wines. They use natural yeasts only and practice viticulture raisonée which means they adopt environmentally sustainable techniques on the land.
S h Du Stéphane Dupuch has a warmth and friendliness that is sometimes missing amongst the Bordeaux wine glitterati. His exuberance and passion is transmitted into every bottle and the pride he has in his work is evidenced by the fact that he happily shares his winemaking techniques with wine lovers where ever he goes. His drive for quality is ceaseless. If he feels the harvest has not produced good enough quality grapes, he sells them to local cooperatives and refuses to use them for Château Sainte Marie wine.
Je-P Gu Fleurie is the land of fruity, fragrant Gamay par excellence, and it is one of the ten cru villages in Beaujolais. The Gauthier family produce this delicious example, swirling with strawberry and redcurrant flavours. Father and son combine on the gently sloping south/southeast facing vineyards, which provide ideal growing conditions. The Domaine has been in the family for 3 generations, and some of the vines are 50 years old. The viticulture is environmentally friendly, thus protecting the soil. The benefits of this can be tasted in their sumptuous wines. 17 | Wines Direct

Meet the Winemakers P Cl Having met Pierre Clavel many times now, we can see where the wine gets its personality from. His smiling eyes and shock of white hair belie his fiery, intense character. A fervent environmentalist, he has banned chemicals completely from his land. Garrigue is a low-lying scrubland typical of South France with thyme, lavender and rosemary among the common vegetation. As a result, Les Garrigues is one of those great, characterful, southern reds that wears its heart on its sleeve and is brim-full of fragrance and flavour from first sip to last.
Di Chr For an introduction to the big, bold and luxurious side of the Rhône, look no further than Didier Charavin’s handcrafted gems. Didier took over the reins of this small family winery from his dad in 1985. Up until that point, all the grapes were sold to the neighbouring co-operative in the village of Rasteau. Didier began to make his own wine and hired a mobile bottling unit so he could bottle it on-site himself. Thus Domaine Didier Charavin was born and he remains proudly independent to this day.
Vnn Ricr The cheeky Vincent stands out most prominently in the often overlooked region of Touraine. His willingness to limit yields and tend vines with meticulous care has been fundamental to his success. The results of practices like manual removal of weeds from the foot of each plant and strict avoidance of chemical herbicides and pesticides are readily apparent in his wines. They offer a great example of how the personality of a winemaker can find its way into your glass! 19 | Wines Direct

Meet the Winemakers Giri Ctt With his cravat, designer shoes, and well pressed shirt, Giorgio Colutta cuts quite the dapper figure amongst his peers. But his well-dressed façade is just that, a façade that belies his hands-on, muck-in approach to winemaking. We’ve been sourcing his wine for years as it is widely regarded as one of the top Pinot Grigios in the country. The grapes are handpicked and sorted, resulting in a white of extraordinary quality and far removed from the many bland offerings in the supermarkets.
Vl Br Father and son team Valter and Umberto Bera create their critically acclaimed Barbera wines close to the famous wine village of Alba. Their secluded vineyard on a small plot of land is a long way from the large factory wineries we passed on the way from Milan on our last trip. A deep ruby colour with low tannins and high acidity are the hallmarks of an appealing, food friendly Barbera red and the Bera family achieve exactly this, vintage after vintage.
Mas Hr Bodegas Fillaboa is one of the only vineyards in the region which is enclosed by stone walls giving it a Burgundian feel and when you stand on one of its misty green hilltops you can see right down to the River Miño which carves the meandering border between Spain and Portugal. And all down the hillside, Masaveu’s vines stand proudly against the strangely Connemara-like landscape. It is from these vines that this stunning, award-winning wine hails from. If you feel like shirking the turkey this year, it’s a classic seafood white too! 21 | Wines Direct

Meet the Winemakers Be Br The Bret Brothers need little introduction to Burgundy fans. What has caught the wine world’s attention, aside from the quality of their wines, is the type of plots they choose and how they farm them. They only select parcels of old vines (+50 years) farmed by organic growers. The plots are small (less than one acre) and the brothers make wine from each plot separately. This means there are only 900 to 4000 bottles of each wine produced per year, making them ‘microcuvées’ and highly sought after ones at that.
Cé Du This husband and wife team have been making wine together for longer than they’ve been married. Cécile is the chief winemaker for Domaine de Montvac and Jean has his own label, Domaine des Éspiers. When we asked if there was competition between them, Jean shrugged but Cécile declared “yes, and mine are better!” Hate to say it Jean, but she may be right. This Vacqueyras has all the qualities of a fine Châteauneuf-du-Pape, without the papal price of that famous wine. A real winter warmer.
Pasc De St. Georges is the most prestigeous satellite of St. Émilion and Chateau Tour du Pas is considered by many to be the flagship wine of the area. Pascal Delbeck took over this organic estate from Madame Dubois-Challon, and he brought with him his fine winemaking pedigree. Pascal was winemaker at the famous Château Bel Air premier cru classé St. Émilion before politics and French heritage laws meant he had to move. As a result, what we get here is the zenith of Bordeaux craftsmanship from a much less expensive property. 23 | Wines Direct

Meet the Winemakers D M Danielle Meunier, or ‘Madame’ as admirers address her, is the winemaker and oenologist of this Saint Emilion Grand Cru Vineyard. It sits on the Saint Emilion plateau between the famous vineyards of Château Cheval Blanc and Château Figeac. While we appreciate the wines of these great houses, we don’t just want to pay for labels. We want to bring the best of Bordeaux to you but not the exorbitant price tags associated with it. Once we met the meticulous Madame, walked her vineyard and tasted her Grand Cru wine, we knew we’d found a smart buy.
E J The Côtes d’Or in Burgundy may be the focal point of famous names and expensive Grand Crus but further south, the village of Mercurey in the Côte Chalonnaise has plenty to offer the astute Burgundy fan. This is where we meet Emile Juillot and Nathalie Theulot, the welcoming husband-and-wife team making fine Pinot Noir and Chardonnay at appealing prices. Their ‘La Cailloute’ is a Pinot Noir that comes from one of the few remaining monopoles in Burgundy, making it a deliciously rare find.
Cisi Me Picturesque Chablis village with its Romanesque towers and quiet, narrow streets is the home of Christian Moreau and his son Fabien. The domaine is one of the most renowned in the area and their grand cru vineyards look down on the village from the fabled southwest facing slopes above the town. They firmly believe in wines of provenance, that not only represent Chablis, but specific hillsides too. Since recovering the family vineyard they have attained international acclaim and their wines are hailed for their depth and quality. 25 | Wines Direct
