BEST WINE REGIONS IN AUSTRALIA It is often more of a question of which cities you will visit rather than how to find a vineyard in Australia, which has over 65 wine growing regions. Here we list off some the most famous, the most popular, the most unusual and of course, some of our personal favorite wine regions in Australia.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA'S BAROSSA VALLEY The Barossa Valley in South Australia is one of Australia's oldest and most prolific wine areas, with over 150 wineries calling it home. The hot and dry Barossa valley is about an hour north of Adelaide and has rolling hills and miles and miles of vineyards and orchards. It is known for its magnificent Shiraz production with its rich body and chocolate and spice undertones.

WINE REGION OF HUNTER VALLEY IN NEW SOUTH WALES The Hunter Valley wine region, located just a few hours north of Sydney in New South Wales, is Australia's oldest wine region. While the first grapes planted around Sydney in 1788 struggled with humidity and heat, the discovery of Hunter Valley gave up a new world of possibilities.

WINE REGION OF YARRA VALLEY IN VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA The Yarra Valley wine region is less than an hour east of Melbourne and is noted for its slightly colder environment and popularity due to its proximity to the state capital. The Yarra Valley wine region and its 80+ wineries are well recognized for its Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and sparkling wine varietals, with some of the state's oldest vines dating back to the late 1830s. The location is also a popular weekend escape for many city dwellers, with numerous hotels and eateries dotting the valley.
