Come Dine With The Animals Of The Rain Forest
Dear Readers, As Editor of Wingz Magazine, I am always asked to run stories that involve Endangered Species. I feel it’s time to write about another type of Endangered Parrot Species, The Rescue Parrot. In the USA there are more Parrots as pets than you would think. They are not a very popular pet but among the people who have them they are one that some cannot get enough of. I have heard the saying” Birds are like Lay’s Potato Chips, you can’t have just one”. I should know, I have had a rescue in the past, and yes, they are very addicting. I have seen with my own eyes the good rescues and the bad. The ones who just collect birds and don’t do what’s right for them are the ones I am talking about. These are the people I like to call hoarders. They get birds for free mostly because once people cannot handle their bird they put them in the paper and give them away for free. The ones who do this are usuallyuneducated about their bird and just want to get rid of it. Because of the so called rescues being reported and exposed, some of the good rescues are being treated badly and are not getting the attention they need to have funds raised to care for the birds. These rescues have the room, the equipment, and the manpower to care for the birds they have. They are also 501 legal rescues. They have to have fundraisers to keep their rescues going and with they’re being so many bad ones out there the good ones are looked down upon. So my point here is, well, several of them really, do your homework, stay away from the so-called rescues that are not 501 and if you see birds being mistreated, make a phone call!! Every bird owner should be well educated about his or her bird. There is educational information out there you just have to look for it. If your not sure, ask me. I would be happy to pass along my knowledge. The Parrots should not have to suffer for the ignorance of their human. Sincerely,
Amy Jo Joyce Senior Editor 2014
Critically Endangered Parrots

Parrots Of The World The Endangered Species List I have been interested in Parrots my whole life. I have had at least one in my
life since I was 5. This subject I am about to talk about breaks my heart. It’s well known that there are animals in the world that are endangered species. It is also well known that there are animals that are extinct. Just look at the dinosaurs. There is a very long list of Parrots on that endangered species list. They have them in different categories. The Extinct List, the Critically Endangered List, the Vulnerably Endangered List and the Near Threatened List. All of these lists may have been able to be prevented. Of course we could not have done anything about the Parrots who became extinct by natural causes such as, weather. The things we can help like habitats being destroyed by humans and not nature. Every year we get the statistics on how many parrots habitat have been destroyed. What we don’t get is the statistics on how many parrot habitats we have saved or rebuilt. There are people out there trying to save wild parrots by putting some of them in breeding programs and the setting them free to repopulate in the wild. There are other reasons these parrots become endangered besides their habitats being destroyed. Thee are poachers who capture them and sell them to the pet trade. The governments of these countries have done a lot to put a stop to this and are still doing it. What they are not doing enough of is stopping the destruction of the parrot habitats. What good does it do to repopulate a species if they don’t have a home to go to? On the next page is just a partial list of parrots that are endangered, or extinct. Every day more and more parrots are placed on these lists. When will the world rethink what they are doing to protect these beautiful birds? What is being done just isn’t enough. Please pass this article on to everyone you know. I hope that at least one person who reads this will take a chance and do something to help the Parrots Of The World.
