2016–2018 2016–2018

Hi! My name is Winny Rahel. Born on the 20th of January ‘97 and currently based in Jakarta. I took my Diploma at Lasalle College of the Arts Singapore from 2015–2017. I then continue to work both in

Before starting any projects, I usually have a ‘guide’ to help me approach the project appropriately so I don’t get lost or distracted in the middle of the project. It’s also helpful to document the project so that the documentation can be use for learning and growing purposes in the future.

Thinking Process

Mindmap

Understand Before starting in any project, the very first step that I do is to fully understand what the client wants and what he/she needs. This is the part where questions will be crucial, as the right question might lead to a promising foundation. Research Using the foundation, I begin to do research. There are many ways of researching, but I mostly do Desk Research. Sometimes, depending on the project need, quantitative or qualitative research technique will be used.

Thinking Process

Observe

Explore

Feedback

Mindmap To sharpen and make the ideas clearer, I start to draw mindmaps. Once the mindmaps are drawn, I select potentials keywords to use them in the process. Observe Before continuing too deep, usually I observe and learn from existing competitors or similar project that has been done. It’s very important because as designers we have the ability to build semiotics. It can benefit the brand to gain audience more easily.

007

Feedback To me, great ideas can come from anywhere. And it usually come from integrated ideas that came from different perspectives. In this step asking feedbacks or opinions from other people can help us see points that can be improve.

Not forgetting that some projects does not have much time to jump from one point to the other – as it is only a ‘guide’ being flexible and thinking priority-based also help during this matter.

Conclusion Although the thinking process are firstly approach in order, sometimes going back and forth each point can also help sharpen and improve the existing idea.

2016–2018

Explore When the idea is lock, I start to explore many options and alternatives. There are always room for exploration. But to know that it is enough, I close it with the next step.

Feedback After the end of the process, the client wasn’t too happy with the illustration with the comment that it seems a little bit to childish for their brand.

Explore I then start to explore a few sketches, and try to draw some assets for the brands.

Observe I understand their concern as they are a financial brand which is quite sensitive to be Online. So the illustration has to be more trustworthy. So I begin to observe other finance technology brands. One of them is Wealthfront; I observed that their illustration had more rigid and stiff body. And I think it definitely made the illustration less fun and childish.

Before developing the visual, we look at the brands’ identity and we position the salon as a ‘heaven’ where all the ‘bidadari’ on earth came to rest and regain their beauty.

2016–2018

After the concept we develop the visuals from legends and stories about ‘bidadari’.

I did a quantitative research and approach a mood-board based on it. I develop colors that can be use for the brand with a concept of ‘different but one’ as Egghead contains people from different backgrounds but work together as a team to create amazing brands.

2016–2018

The colors are then implemented to their marketing tools such as website, social media, business cards etc.

Egghead did not have a consistent visual – they are always changing and it can be a problem for their brand position.
