MARKETING

MARKETING OUTLOOK In Southeast Michigan, employers are demanding more marketing professionals like market research analysts and marketing specialists. Employers posted over 2,000 marketing -related jobs in the past year. Employment in these occupations is expected to grow slowly and steadily over the next five years. The recent increases in employer demand indicate that employment in certain related occupations will expand more than projected. Employers hiring for marketing positions prefer a candidate with a bachelor’s degree, but this is an opportunity for students to start their career with a two-year program at a local community college. And, with only 5% of the workers in these fields being recent college graduates, there is an opportunity for young degree holders to enter the workforce in a marketing job.

INCREASING DEMAND AND OPPORTUNITY

Current workers in marketing and business operations jobs typically have a starting salary of $37,000 per year, slightly lower than regional median family income. However, salaries grow rapidly with experience; the median salary is $63,000 and experienced workers can make over $100,000 per year. The current workforce is also primarily white, only 17% of related workers are minorities. Minority workers, along with younger workers, offer promising opportunities for employers to expand their workforce.

7% Only 5% of the workforce is under 25.
