A2 Media Studies GFK
PRACTICAL PRODUCTION BLOG
Evaluation = 20 marks and very important The Questions 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? 2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? 3. What have you learnt from your audience feedback? 4. How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? Think of ways that you can put in anything visual or that uses ICT eg. screenshots; links; pictures; videos; audio
The following is a guide –you can add or change bits as necessary. If there are other ways to do this then that is fine.
Chunks of text on its own is bad, bad, bad, bad, baaaaaaaaaad And you all need to be good Make sure the last post has your names on it as the title; you could put the picture of the group here You may be able to use some of the stuff from research and planning
This is what the examiners are looking for:-
• understanding of the forms and conventions used in the productions • understanding of the role and use of new media in various stages of the production • understanding of the combination of main product and ancillary texts • understanding of the significance of audience feedback • skill in choice of form in which to present the evaluation • ability to communicate • use of digital technology or ICT in the evaluation
NOTES • • •
Make sure video is short bits; use lumix stills cameras for video; no point in best cameras and spending ages editing for the blog Use jpegs for images and make sure not using a lot of memory Audio recordings use the zoom or marantz, import in to Premier or YouTube and then upload to blog –see Martin for this
Screengrabs – best way to get them is printscreen from the uploaded video on the blog (not from a windows media file) Past them into publisher, group and save the whole thing as a jpeg.
1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? Take 6-9 bits (screenshots) of each product. 6 bits of the pop video, the trailer the digipak, the radio ad, the poster, the newspaper etc Discuss how they relate to real media products. You could place bits of yours next to real products for comparison. You could do a commentary and then discuss the conventions eg voiceover on top of the video You could film yourselves talking about the conventions with bits of the product in between Record yourself talking about say the digipak conventions or the film poster etc
2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? For promotion packages discuss brand identity eg screenshots of same fonts/styles/images Do a video commentary of your products –check out Greg’s examples (Alex video)
3. What have you learnt from your audience feedback? How has feedback helped? What changes have you made as a result? Screenshots of audience feedback from facebook/any other site Get students to look at your work and make comments directly onto the blog Screenshot of what they liked/didn’t like Film audience reaction as they are looking at it on screen or talking head reaction direct to camera Or record audience reaction to your media products
