T
his booklet, documenting the bird diversity of village Kyari, which is located at the edge of Pawalgarh Conservation Reserve in Nainital District, Uttarakhand, has been done by the children of the Kyari Ecoclub, as part of the biodiversity module of the Wipro Sustainability Educator program. The Kyari Ecoclub was started in mid 2020 as part of the Wipro Sustainability Educator program. The lead educator for the program, Bhaskar Sati, initiated nature walks for the children, after introducing them to the biodiversity module of the Wipro Sustainability Educator program. Over a period of three months, between August and October 2020, the children of the Kyari Ecoclub, went of nature walks, learnt to identify the common bird species, gained knowledge about their habits and habitat. This knowledge was further captured by means of drawings and stories that the children wrote. This booklet summarizes the work done by the children.

Birdwatching at Eco-clubs How do I start birdwatching at my ecoclub? What does the ecoclub need? This booklet, Birds of Kyari, has 34 common birds that can be seen around your school. If possible, also procure a pair or binoculars, but this is not essential. Also, get a copy of the Birds of Uttarakhand bilingual brochure, which has 171 species of birds found in the state. Activity 1: Make a list of the common birds in and around your school? Get the children of the Ecoclub to observe the common birds around the school. Get the eco-club children to fill in the table below. Use the material you have (this booklet, Birds of Uttarakhand catalogue)to identify the common birds you see. Fill up the table below to make bird identification easier.
