Based in Chapmanslade, Barters has been growing plants for more than 50 years and has a retail area that is open to the public seven days a week.

In a lovely rural setting, the Barters site is studded with many homegrown shrubs and trees. The plant nursery has been cultivating hardy plants for over 50 years. Over the last two years Barters has been evolving their retail area which is open to the public 7 days a week.

Seasonal changing displays mean every time you drop by there is something spectacular to see.

A revitalised plant centre is currently full of flowering plants for spring: they have over 100 varieties of roses grown in their nursery plus a wide range of soft fruit, top fruit and ornamental trees. There are also alpines and cottage garden plants for masses of colour year after year; not forgetting climbers, perennials, annuals, established specimens and shade-loving plants – whatever you are looking for it’s a good bet they’ll have it or can get it - they will source plants for you they do not have in stock. They also have rare and unusual plants - ideal if you are looking for something special.

While Barters grow a great many plants on their nursery, they obviously cannot grow everything. Plants carefully selected from specialist UK growers supplement the homegrown stock; all plants on offer are of superb quality and are surprisingly good value.

Barters staff love talking plants and gardening - when you visit, you'll probably leave a wiser gardener whatever your garden size.

The ’Grow Your Own’ movement is well catered for too with an abundant selection of traditional favourites and exciting new varieties of fruit and veg.

Often Barters are asked to supply plants via email. Their website has a weekly updated availability list and you can order through a web form. Landscapers, garden designers and enthusiasts have long been trusting Barters to deliver without first visiting and are very rarely disappointed.

Garden wildlife is provisioned with a range of British made habitats for birds and other creatures alongside various feed. ‘Jack’ the red robin (pictured below) has taken up residence and is a hit with staff and visitors alike.

A significant extra is their Loyalty Card scheme giving a 10% discount to regular customers – they value loyal customers as well as new ones! Usefully, a reasonably priced delivery service is also available. Easy access from the A36 makes Barters the supplier of choice for keen gardeners from Westbury, Frome, Warminster, Trowbridge, as well as further afield.
