Our Mission The Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin provides sustainable funding for Wisconsin’s most imperiled species and public lands, while helping citizens connect with our state’s unique natural places.

Our Work With the support of our donors and members, the Foundation has boosted private sector investment and involvement for Wisconsin’s lands, waters and wildlife. For more than 30 years, the Foundation has filled an important and unique conservation funding niche that no other organization does. We embrace the power of partnerships between government entities and private groups, individuals, or corporations. We recover species from the brink of extinction, and we continue to bring substantial financial resources and attention to priority projects of the Department of Natural Resources and other conservation partners.

Our Impact Wisconsin wouldn’t be the same without the Natural Resources Foundation. Since 1986, our Foundation has: • Contributed more than $7 million to public and private conservation efforts to protect the lands, waters, and wildlife of Wisconsin; • Developed an active membership of more than 4,000 citizens who support our mission; • Worked with private donors to create the Wisconsin Conservation Endowment, which currently includes more than 80 endowment funds and more than $6 million in assets that permanently conserve lands, protect wildlife, and promote conservation; • Coordinated more than 2,100 Field Trips, where close to 45,000 people explored significant sites and projects across Wisconsin; • Supported more than 550 grassroots conservation projects in every county of the state through our grantmaking efforts;

Join our Sojourners Society with a special, $500 gift dedicated to our Field Trip Program! Your gift will provide sustainable funding to ensure that Field Trips remain accessible and affordable for all Field Trip participants. As a Sojourners Society member, you will receive: • Guaranteed, early registration for Field Trips of your choosing • Early registration on our international excursions • Exclusive invitations to special Feld Trips with conservation experts To join go online at WisConservation.org and click Donate Now. From Bluffs to Great Lake Shores Ensuring Wisconsin’s Conservation Future

Take heart my friends, Our mission stands As it has stood before To help and save Our woods and lands From bluffs to great lake shores Be not dismayed Though times have changed Through this we will endure So to that end Take heart my friends Our future is assured - Camille Zanoni

Foundation Development Director Authored in 2015 in response to the State’s cuts to conservation funding in Wisconsin.

The Natural Resources Foundation serves a critical role in meeting the conservation needs of Wisconsin’s most imperiled public lands, waters and wildlife while connecting people with the natural resources they cherish through our Field Trips. Never before in the Foundation’s 30-year history has our mission to raise private support for the conservation of our public natural resources been more important. In order to safeguard our future capacity to conserve and protect Wisconsin’s natural resources, some Field Trips this year include a donation for a general endowment for our Foundation. This general endowment will provide sustaining operating support for our work, increase our conservation grant making capacity, and help ensure that Wisconsin’s lands, waters and wildlife are conserved for the future. The Field Trips that include this donation quintessentially showcase the breadth and variety of Wisconsin’s natural wonders, from bluffs to great lake shores. It is our hope that these trips will spark a love of Wisconsin’s natural resources that will endure for another 30 years and beyond.

NRF joins national effort to protect monarchs

J. mayer

J. mayer

Many are familiar with monarch butterflies, but few know the intricate details of their complex life cycle. Shared by all three North American countries, this migrating marvel can travel distances of 2,000 miles, from Canada to Mexico, in just one season. Unfortunately, monarch populations are now at an all-time low, with declines of nearly 80% due to loss of milkweed habitat, pesticide use & climate change. In efforts to help these winged wonders, the Natural Resources Foundation of WIsconsin has joined the Monarch Joint Venture, a collaborative effort across the U.S. to protect monarch butterflies & their habitat. Celebrate the Foundation’s commitment to protecting monarchs by attending one of nine Field Trips across the state to learn about monarch ecology & how you can help make a difference! 120.
