These incredible Field Trips are offered by the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin! We are a non-profit dedicated to conserving Wisconsin’s most cherished lands, waters, and wildlife. We also connect generations to Wisconsin’s natural wonders through our Field Trip program. Our trips are for all ages and abilities, so bring a friend, child, or grandchild and join us in the field with expert leaders to explore the best of Wisconsin’s natural treasures.

Easily find a Field Trip using the calendar view. Trips are secured as yours when you add them to your cart.

Birthdays required

You will be asked for your (and guests’) birthday during registration. If you don’t know an adult guest’s birthday, just enter 01/01/2000. Children should enter their real birthday (or something close to it).

Note: if there is not a member code on the back of this booklet you will need to renew or become a member before registration. • New and renewing members will receive a member code in their membership payment confirmation email.

Registration facts • All fees are non-refundable if you cancel your registration. After August 1, you may add additional trips to your registration. • Some trips are popular and fill VERY quickly (some within minutes), so have several back-up choices in mind. • If a trip is full, consider the waiting list (an option during online registration). There is a $10 processing fee for mail-in registrations.

Bird Protection Fund Provides over $80,000 annually to support the highest priority conservation needs for Wisconsin’s birds throughout their lifecycles.

Wi Amphibian & Reptile Conservation Fund Supports the conservation, education, research, and monitoring of Wisconsin’s native amphibians and reptiles.

Place-based funds Some of our trips support special places in Wisconsin, like the Lower Chippewa River, Cherokee Marsh or Lower Wisconsin Riverway.

5. Paddle & Bird Cedarburg Bog’s Mud Lake

Enjoy a true wilderness experience in the Cedarburg Bog complex! With 245+ acres of marsh and open water, Mud Lake is the largest, most inaccessible, and least developed inland lake in Ozaukee County. Paddle canoes for up-close views of migrating spring waterfowl and the return of bitterns, rails, and raptors in this Important Bird Area. Note: includes 1/4 mile walk in wet terrain. 3. Effigy Mounds at Nitschke Mounds Park

See one of the best surviving examples of the Mound Builders culture that once occupied Wisconsin. Just west of the Horicon Marsh, Nitschke Mounds Park contains 39 preserved animal effigy, conical, and linear mounds believed to have been constructed around 800-1100 AD. 6. Archaeology at Silver Mound

biologists band eaglets and learn about the eagle monitoring program. Discover the river’s colorful history, ecology, and efforts to keep it wild and scenic. Note, we make every effort to use the canoes, but if the river or weather are unsafe, we will instead visit nests accessible by vehicle and short walks. No bathrooms. Note: Off-trail hike on uneven terrain. A distinctive flint stone was mined at Silver Mound by Native Americans for at least 13,000 years and chipped into spear tips, knives, and tools. Hidden in the modern forest are hundreds of ancient quarry pits and shelters, some with rock carvings and paintings. Visit these relics of the past and learn the craft of flintknapping. Perhaps no other Wisconsin bird is as bizarre as the woodcock! Start indoors at Kemp Station to learn about the woodcock’s habitat and unique biology. Note: off-trail and some wet areas. Little Bear Hemlocks SNA is a remnant of the once vast forest that historically occupied the northern landscape. Hike under a canopy of towering hemlocks, sugar maples, and white pine to marvel at a carpet of ferns and spring ephemerals blooming in the understory. No bathrooms. 19. Power Trek to the Devil’s Nose

Note: off-trail, uneven footing on steep terrain. Explore the rarely-visited wild side of Devil’s Lake State Park on this challenging, high-energy trek through the South Bluff/ Devil’s Nose SNA in the Baraboo Range. Hike four miles off-trail through deep maple forests to the summit of the south flank, enjoy spectacular vistas of Devil’s Lake from rocky talus fields, then drop into a deep bedrock crevasse before exiting at the Devil’s Nose. No Bathrooms.

23. Birding the Hot Spots of the Northern Kettle Moraine

Search for late spring migrants at several birding hot spots of various habitats: Mauthe Lake (forest edge/riparian habitat) to the Jersey Flats (open grasslands) and then to the Parnell Tower Trail (interior woods). 28. Birding Bonanza (Year 6): Central Wisconsin

New location this year! Enjoy peak week of spring migration on an expert-guided tour of the best birding haunts in Columbia, Sauk, and Dane Counties. Aim for a high bird tally as we search for birds at Goose Pond, Schoeneberg Marsh, the former Badger Army Ammunition Plant, Devil’s Lake State Park, Baxter’s Hollow SNA, and Spring Green Desert SNA.
