APPLIED SECURITY ANALYSIS If you have a passion for investing and are focused on pursuing a career in the investment field, specializing in Applied Security Analysis is an ideal choice. A Wisconsin MBA specializing in Applied Security Analysis offers a broad business education through your core MBA classes as well as hands-on security analysis and portfolio management, using the same tools and systems used by the largest firms in the country. You (not the professor) will make investment decisions for portfolios with a combined value of more than $50 million. This rigorous preparation is why our graduates obtain great jobs after graduation. Our alumni are employed as research analysts, institutional salespeople, portfolio managers, or research directors at investment firms throughout the world. Our curriculum emphasizes fundamental investing and business model analysis, along with portfolio concepts such as absolute risk and tracking error. We don’t require any specific investment process—that is for you and your team to decide after learning about various approaches used throughout the industry. You’ll spend your first year learning modeling and analytical skills needed to evaluate potential investments, and the following summer doing an internship with an investment firm. During
the second year, you will further develop your skills by managing real portfolios and taking additional finance classes designed to give you the tools and insight you need, guided by industry professionals who have years of experience. The program is also a CFA® Program Partner, which gives you extra resources and ensures that the majority of the same material as the CFA Exams Program is covered by our curriculum. This makes it easier for you to earn an MBA at the same time you are making significant progress toward the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

CORPORATE FINANCE & INVESTMENT BANKING Do you see the big picture when it comes to finance? Corporate finance requires a deep understanding of financial methods and techniques—from valuing assets to providing insights on important business development decisions. Investment banking focuses on raising capital for companies and making business deals happen. The Wisconsin MBA in Corporate Finance and Investment Banking prepares you to see that big picture and to succeed as a financial officer, consultant, or investment banker. Critical analysis of corporate financial problems is at the heart of the program. You tackle challenging consulting projects for Fortune 500 firms, investment banks, and other financial leaders. You learn to address complex challenges involving working capital management, funding sources, acquisition analysis, and more. You work as part of a team throughout the academic year, conducting approximately four to six diverse financial consulting engagements and presenting your recommendations to executives of the sponsoring firm. You learn how to apply technical and theoretical financial tools and concepts to analyze problems, improve decision making, and develop recommendations for action.

REAL ESTATE If your goal is a high-level position in the real estate industry, here’s the place to start. The Wisconsin MBA in Real Estate combines a comprehensive foundation of real estate and finance principles with practical hands-on learning and a global perspective. It is perfect preparation for a variety of career paths, including investment analyst, asset manager, acquisitions director, developer, or portfolio manager. Wisconsin’s two-year MBA in Real Estate offers the kind of in-depth real estate graduate education you won’t get anywhere else. You will complete high-level coursework in real estate development, investment and analysis while also learning fundamental business concepts such as finance, accounting, management, strategy, and leadership. You will also study timely trends like sustainable development while using real world tools like ARGUS software, Excel modeling and Bloomberg research. Global awareness is central to the Wisconsin program, you’ll have the opportunity to hear from speakers active in global real estate investing, to meet leaders in the international business community and to travel to major real estate markets in the U.S. and abroad. The program’s Applied Real Estate Investment Track, the first of its kind in the nation, provides a team of students with the opportunity to manage a $1 million portfolio of real estate investment trusts (REITs) and real estate operating companies.

RISK MANAGEMENT & INSURANCE In today’s world, managing risk is a necessity, not an option. Companies must confront a variety of major risks—legal liabilities, natural disasters, and credit meltdowns—to name only a few. To manage these challenges, companies rely on professionals in risk management and insurance, individuals who are skilled at evaluating risks and developing strategic measures to manage them effectively. The Wisconsin MBA in Risk Management and Insurance is known for producing graduates capable of analyzing risk from multiple perspectives with advanced analytical, communication, and critical-thinking skills. The curriculum integrates finance, accounting, data analysis, and management. Innovations in enterprise risk management, risk financing techniques, and sustainability implications are explored. As a student in the program, you gain handson experience through projects conducted on behalf of companies with risk management needs. The most notable example of this applied learning is the risk management seminar, in which teams of students undertake significant consulting projects for companies and other organizations.
