Lord Brahma WISHESH DIGITAL | OCTOBER 2016

Why we do not have many Brahma temples in Bharat/India unlike Vishnu and Shiva. As kids we all have lot of questions in our mind about the different stories that we have read or heard about our Hindu Gods, this interesting story may answer some of your questions like they answered mine. There are few stories you may find but the one I found interesting and wanted to share with you all is this one. Once two heavenly people (Gandharvas) came to visit Lord Vishnu but Lord Vishnu was in deep meditation, so he did not see them. Brahma came by and tried to awaken Lord Vishnu but failed to do so, Lord Brahma was angry and tried once again and managed to awaken Lord Vishnu. Lord Brahma was furious because Lord Vishnu was very calm and unaware of how angry Brahma was; soon Lord Brahma started arguing who was superior amongst them. The argument continued in space, luckily the two heavenly people (Gandharvas) told Lord Shiva about the quarrel. Lord Shiva took the form of a gigantic lingam that was made of fire, when Brahma and Vishnu saw this they did not know that the giant fire was Lord Shiva. Lord Vishnu suggested that whoever finds the end of the lingam is the superior God; both of them set to find the end of lingam. Lord Vishnu went down to
WISHESH DIGITAL | OCTOBER 2016
the underworld (Patal) and he took the shape of a boar and started his journey. Lord Brahma took the shape of a swan and started his journey, after years he found Ketaki flower which told him that she had been here since the creation of the world and she said she has not seen the end and Brahma’s attempt would be a failure. Brahma thought for a while and asked Ketaki to be a witness in front of Lord Vishnu and lie for him that he had seen the end. Ketaki agreed and lied to Vishnu, who agreed that Lord Brahma was the Superior. On knowing this Lord Shiva became angry and cursed Lord Brahma for lying, he cursed him to be never worshiped on earth, seeing this Ketaki begged for forgiveness, Lord Shiva said she shall only be used for Lord Vishnu’s prayers and not for Lord Shiva any more.
Dear Friends lesson learned from this story is whether God or Human if we do not speak the truth then we will be punished in some way, so always dare to speak the truth, don’t think about the results.

THE SPACE Space is a place where there are planets, the Sun and the moons. There are nine planets; they are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. Pluto is now considered as a dwarf planet. Venus is the only planet that rotates clockwise around the Sun, but the rest of the planets rotates anticlockwise. Mercury is the closest planet from the Sun. Venus is the sister planet of Earth and is about the same size as Earth. Earth is a perfect place for the circle of life because it is the perfect distance from the Sun and there is enough water for life. Mars is the red planet and it might contain life as astronauts are still exploring. Earth has one moon but Mars has two moons. Some people say that Mars’s two moons got caught in Mars’s atmosphere from the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. Jupiter on the other hand is the largest of the planets and has sixteen or more moons. Saturn is not the only planet with rings, even Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune have rings. Saturn rings are brighter and are made out of ice and rocks.
WISHESH DIGITAL | OCTOBER 2016
Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are made out of gas and liquids, they are the outer planets. But Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars are made out of rocks and minerals, they are the inner planets. Comets have two tails, did you know that comets are shooting stars because of the heat of the Earth atmosphere? A meteoroid is a space rock that is made out of rocks, minerals, ice and metal.
I like space because of the mysterious things in it.

Q&A
Hinduism Volume 9
Hinduism is the oldest religion of this world. During the period when people in other areas were hunting down animals, the great Hindu sages, holy men and Kings were leading their people in virtuous life by chanting the vedas, carrying out great yagas (yagna) and medical research in Sittha, Ayurveda and also in astronomy.

Q: Who can become a Hindu ? Can one be a Hindu only by birth ? No, not at all. As the knowledge in Hinduism is not in a closed boundary, Hinduism does not limit itself to any closed boundary of land, language or race. In fact people embracing Hinduism have been there for ages.
Q: Hinduism is the religion of one particular land called India, right ? No, actually not. This new name called Hinduism given to this discipline is what makes it appear it as the religion of one land. Though it is currently practiced mainly in India there are references in scriptures like Shiva mahaa puraaNam that this worship was spread throughout the world. While the other parts have forgotten this history it is still in practice now in other parts.
Q: The Aryans invaded the Dravidans and ... No, No. The words aryan and dravidan seem to be misinterpreted. The word arya has been used as a title of dignity while dravida refers to the land Deccan and not a race. The wars that are said to have happened between these two appears to be a tint of imagination added to the purANic, epical events.
Q: What is this caste system ? Quite long ago the society was divided into four castes depending upon the nature of service they do so that they together make sure the smooth running of the social system. It was like the operational divisions
WISHESH DIGITAL | OCTOBER 2016
of organizations. These four castes were the four functional pillars on which the society was standing. In the course of time the caste started to get determined by birth and later some of these sections started considering themselves superior to others. This finally led to the cruelty and inhuman behaviors of untouchability etc. There has been time and again cautions from Hindu scholars against these inhuman behaviors. Now this system is getting phased out and the Hindus should be soon out of the bad taste it left.
Q: What is the status of women under Hinduism ? Hinduism that views God as both masculine and feminine (and neuter too), suggests the role of women hand in hand with her male counterpart. Feminity is worshipped in the forms of rivers, land, etc. Females have the right to perform worship as their male counterparts. There are many vedic sages, philosophers of later day, poets queens and so on from the womenfolk (1). If the male has the authority over the operations, the female commands the respect of the family. They do not compete but complement to form a better society. Quite naturally the wife is called saha dharmini or the companion in the dharma. In the course of time and especially in the last millenium there has been an major deterioration of this status due to whatever circumstances. It is time to shun away all those dirt accumulated on the way and rediscover the glory of the ancient equality. Source : http://shaivam.org/

Person of the month rule is remembered as a golden age in Indore’s history. From an agricultural background herself, she married Khanderav, prince of Indore. Thereafter, she resided in the Royal Palace. Later, she was trained in statecraft and accompanied the army to war on many occasions. At that time the Maratha Empire (which was founded by Shivaji) was at the apex of its power. There were frequent battles and skirmishes, both against foreigners as well as internal feuds. In one such battle in 1754, Ahilyabai’s husband was killed. Her aged father-in-law was shattered at the death of his son. He summoned Ahilyabai who he loved deeply, and said: “You are now my son. I wish that you look after my kingdom.”
Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar (1725-1795)
The warrior queen of India
Ahilyabai Holkar is fondly remembered as a noble, saintly and courageous woman. She ruled the kingdom of Indore (which was then part of the wider Maratha Empire) for several decades. Her
On taking control of Indore, she declared, “This kingdom belongs to Shankar (Shiva). On behalf of Shankar I will do my duty to manage the affairs for the benefit of the people.” She lived a very simple life. Instead of living in the palace she preferred to live on the banks of the River Narmada at the pilgrimage site called “Maheshwar”. At the age of 70 Ahilyabai passed away in Rameshwar. Her life shines brightly in the firmament of history, for ruling her kingdom with piety and selflessness; sincerely devoting herself to her subjects while keeping Dharma at the forefront of all that she did. Her life will be an inspiration for future generations of Hindus. Source: http://www.hinduhistory.info/

Value of Words Once, Bhagwan Buddha was doing dhyan in the jungle. At this time, a man was walking by Bhagwan Buddha. He was lost, tired and hungry. Seeing the peaceful look on Buddha’s serene face, the man instantly became very angry. He started to swear at Bhagwan Buddha. He thought Bhagwan Buddha would open his eyes and respond. However, Buddha’s face did not change. Again the man yelled and swore; still no reaction. So he shook Bhagwan Buddha and said, “I’ve been swearing at you for a while; say something!” Bhagwan Buddha replied, “I have not paid attention to WISHESH DIGITAL | OCTOBER 2016

So why didn’t you say something?” replied the man. “Your words are worthless, so why would I listen to them?” replied Buddha. This annoyed the man even further. “And since I haven’t acknowledged them, they are still with you,” continued Bhagwan Buddha.
