Kondalampatti Handloom Silks known for durability 10
Kondalampatti is a small village around 8KM from Salem town located in Tamilnadu, India. With a population of nearly 17000, Kondalampatti is a typical Tamilnadu village where the main profession of people is agriculture and handloom. The village has an average education level up to eighth standard and has well connected roads and frequent bus service.
Handloom industry Kondalampatti is well know for its silk handloom products, which are well know for durability attained because of the mixture of colors. The fabric gets softness or WWW.WISHESH.COM | APRIL 2016
hardness because of the count, that is the number of threads used in weaving. In weaving, the number of threads used in length is known as warp and the number of threads used in breadth is known as weft. Around 60 to 65 threads would be used in a square inch in warp in Kondalampatti. Around 51 inches is the width of the saree. The specialty is that every thread of the Kondalampatti handloom saree is woven by hand. Every weaver works from home and all family members help in the different steps of the process. to eight days of continuous efforts are needed for weaving one saree, based on the type of the saree.
Dyeing Dyeing the silk yarn is the first step of the manufacturing process of a Kondalampatti handloom Saree. The coloring process of yarn, dyeing is a process of dipping the yarn in the boiled color water at high temperature. Higher the temperature, more durable is the color. Dyeing is done so carefully that they ensure that the color is uniformly spread all through the yarn and does not affect the quality. This step is crucial in getting a good colorful saree. After coloring, the silk yarn is dried in a shade.
Weaving Weaving follows dyeing and drying. After drying, the yarn is converted to thread and then loaded as warp. The warp is called pavvu. This is then loaded into the loom for actual weaving. Pavvu is even rolled over small sticks for use during weft. Six sarees can be made from one pavvu, which can be made within two months. A remuneration of Rs 1500 would be obtained
by the weaver for one saree. Interlocked-weft technique is usually used traditionally to weave Kondalampatti handloom sarees.
Design Coming to the design on the saree, initially the design is drawn in computer and is later punched into a card. All the cards are loaded in Jacard, which is a box like structure in the loom. Jacard is fixed in the top of the loom and contains needles, which can read the punched the cards and thus, control the weaving of weft. Kondalampatti Handloom products, which are famous once, are now becoming extinct because of high cost of silk yarn and low wages. Very few weavers are continuing in the profession these days and most handlooms are turning power looms. To save the handloom industry and stop the extinction of magical weaving like Kondalampatti Handloom products, necessary action is to be taken both by the government as well as society.

The bonfire is lit at major crossroads of cities. Then follows Holika Dahan. The devil minded sister of demon king Hiranyakashyap, called Holika, is placed in the wood and burnt. Holika wanted and tried killing Prahlad, the son of Hiranyakashyap and a devotee of Lord Naarayanaa. Thus, it is a ritual that symbolizes or marks victory of good over evil. It also indicates the triumph of a true devotee

In South India, people worship Kaamadeva - the love god of Indian mythology. People believe in the legend that speaks about Kaamadeva’s sacrifice when he left his love arrows on Lord Shiva with an intention to break his meditation and evoke the lord’s interest in worldly affairs. Following a day filled with fun, people meet and greet relatives as well as friends by exchanging sweets.
Eco-friendly Holi Holi is a joyous festival intended to celebrate the arrival of spring using colors. The colors reflect several hues of spring. Unfortunately, modern day Holi and colors are not in good terms, causing yet another occasion of environmental degradation. It is time to bring back the original essence of Holi by syncing it with nature. Celebrate Holi with joy and pride!

On a bright day Krishna’s friends were busy eating and listening to the jokes of Krishna. They forgot about their calves. The calves, which had been grazing nearby, slowly moved far away. They entered the deep forest. One of the boys suddenly noticed that the calves were not in sight. He shouted, “Where are the calves? They might have entered the deep forest. Some wild animals may devour them.” All the boys were alerted. Krishna, consoled them and said, “Do not worry. Let not our fun be disturbed by this trifle. Carry on with your lunch. I shall go and fetch them in no time! Krishna then started in search of the calves with the ball of rice still in hand.
Brahma, the Creator, had heard a lot about the wonder-boy of Vrindavan. He wanted to play a trick on Krishna and test his powers. So he had hidden the calves. Krishna searched everywhere and returned to his companions unsuccessful in finding the calves. What was his surprise when he found that the boys also had disappeared! He went out to search for the boys. Even after a long search, he could find neither the boys nor the calves. Now
he reflected and realised that it must be the mischief of someone. He closed his eyes and meditated for a while. After all he was God. He understood everything in a trice. He smiled to himself and said, “So this is Brahma’s game. I can play an even better game.” At once he created boys and calves to replace the missing ones. It was great fun, Krishna was himself the calves, himself the cowherd boys directing the calves, himself enacting various plays with himself and himself also the toys and other sport materials. This multi-formed Krishna, returned to Vrindavan. The women, hearing the sounds of anklets and flutes rushed to receive their children. They too failed to discover that the children were new ones and not the ones they had given birth to. They found more joy than before in feeding these children and fondling them.
How could they know that they were feeding and fondling the Lord Himself?
Krishna blessed him Brahma circumambulated him thrice and departed to his heavenly abode.
One year passed in this way. Brahma came to Vrindavan again to see how his trick had worked. He was taken aback to see all the boys and calves moving about as usual.
Krishna brought back all the calves that were hidden by Brahma. The magical boys and calves disappeared and the real ones came back to the scene. The boys just sitting as they were doing before this episode, on the banks of the Yamuna with their food packets half eaten, waiting for the return of Krishna who had gone in search of the calves. They never realised that one year had passed and many events had taken place meanwhile. They felt that Krishna had returned with calves just in half-an-hour.
He thought within himself, “All the boys and calves I removed are even now sleeping in the cave where I have hidden them. How is it then they are all here with Krishna?” He rushed to the cave to see if they had been discovered and released by Krishna. But lo! They were all there in deep sleep. Again and again he tried to solve the mystery but he could not. He was very much confused. All the time Krishna was observing the discomfiture of Brahma. At last he took pity on him and made him understand the mystery. Now when Brahma looked at the calves and boys which were moving about with Krishna, he saw several Krishna. There were neither boys nor calves but only Krishna. Brahma then ran to Krishna and fell at his feet.
They said to Krishna, “Oh, you have returned so soon. We have not eaten even a single ball of rice after you left. Come’, now sit and eat comfortably.” Krishna smiled at their words and started sharing the lunch with them. This incident has reiterated that the Supreme Lord of Universe is none other than Sri Krishna himself.

Who would actually guess that the season, a person was born, will be linked with the allergy disorders they face, throughout their life. Be it summer, winter, rainy or spring, the season in which a child is born can determine whether or not they are more likely to suffer from an allergy in later life. Through the studies conducted by the researchers at the University of Southampton, it was found out that, specific markers on DNA, could link the season in which a person was born. As a part of the research, the WWW.WISHESH.COM | APRIL 2016
study conducted epigenetic scanning on DNA samples from a group of people born on the Isle of Wight. Through that study, it was found out that, particular epigenetic marks (specifically, DNA methylation), were associated with season of birth and would be present, even after such person attains 18 years. These epigenetic marks are being linked with the allergic

disease, by the researchers. For example, people born in autumn season, had an increased risk of eczema, than those born in spring. The results were validated in a cohort of Dutch children. One of the researchers, John Holloway said, “These are really interesting results. We know that season of birth has an effect on people throughout their lives. However, until now, we did not know how the effects can be so long lasting.” “Epigenetic marks are attached onto DNA, and can influence gene expression for years, maybe even into WWW.WISHESH.COM | APRIL 2016
the next generation. Our study has linked specific epigenetic marks with season of birth and risk of allergy. However, while these results have clinical implications in mediating against allergy risk, we are not advising altering pregnancy timing.” First author Dr Gabrielle Lockett added, “It might sound like a horoscope by the seasons, but now we have scientific evidence for how that horoscope could work. Because season of birth influences so many things, the epigenetic marks discovered in this study could also potentially be the mechanism for other seasonally
influenced diseases and traits too, not just allergy.” However, the team said that, further research is required to understand, how the various seasons are linked to the altered disease risk and whether temperature, sunlight levels and diets in different season has any role to play in this aspect. More study is also needed on the relationship between DNA methylation and allergic disease, and whether other environmental exposures also alter the epigenome, with potential disease implications.

Puttu is a traditional and most popular breakfast of Kerala prepared with rice flour and coconut. Puttu is cooked in a puttu kutti - a vessel with two sections. The lower section holds water and the upper section (a cylindrical tube) holds the puttu — where the rice mixture is inserted with layers of grated coconut. Perforated lids separate the sections to allow the steam to pass between them.

How to prepare Take 2 cups of rice flour in a bowl. Add a little salt. Add water little at the time and mix well with your finger tips. When you take a handful of flour and press it between your fist, it should hold its shape, when you press it again a little harder, it should crumble. The flour should be crumbly and moist. There should be no lumps. You can blend it in a mixer for 2-3 seconds using the whipper blade. Keep it aside for 15 minutes.
How to fill the puttu kutty / puttu maker Layer the puttu kutty (cylindrical tube) first with a little grated coconut, then add 2 fistful of rice flour. Lord Howell, the Commonwealth Society’s president and former British Minister of State said that, “this polling is invaluable as it shows the view and wishes of these fellow Commonwealth friends in strong support for closer ties.” Tim Hewish, the society’s director of policy and research, said that, MPs in each nation were now needed to build political interest to having a migration bloc between the countries. He added that, the countries shared common language, economic, legal systems and family ties and the same head of state so it seemed a natural shift. Earlier, Boris Johnson, the mayor of London, has claimed Britain had “betrayed the Commonwealth” by joining the EU and should intensify ties with countries like Australia. He said that, “we betrayed
our relationships with Commonwealth countries such as Australia and New Zealand, and entered into preferential trading arrangements with what was then the European Economic Community.” “It would be good for the UK, It would be good for Australia, where the unspoken reality is that Australians are actually quite keen to encourage more immigration from Britain, and it would be a small but practical way of intensifying British links with the growing economy of Oceania.” “It would be an assertion that we are no longer thinking of ourselves as little Europeans, run by Brussels, but as a country with a truly global perspective,” he added. A spokesperson said that, “there are no proposed changes to UK migration laws that would improve Australians’ ability to live and work in the UK. Australia and the UK are not working towards ‘an agreement’ on labour mobility.”

A new study reveals that companies with women on their executive and supervisory boards are valued more highly by the stock markets, especially if they made it to the top without a gender quota Investors rate the performance of few women who climbed to the top of the career ladder in companies as being better than that of their male peers, researchers said. Economists from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and the University of Hong Kong had studied the share price development of the companies following the exit of top managers due to death or illness in a sample of around 50 countries. They looked at around 3,000 cases in 51 countries.

an even bigger drop of 3%. “Women who have reached the highest management level without the help of a mandatory gender quota, therefore, contribute more value to a firm than their male peers,” said Urban. “This effect reflects the harsh selection process, whereby women have to deliver significantly better performance than their male peers. So their departure then produces a correspondingly greater impact,” said Urban. “Firms need to improve their processes for selecting board members. Above all, they should apply the same standards for both men and women. By putting women managers on an equal footing, they could increase their firm’s value,” said Urban. “Our investigation shows that this by no means indicates that women generally make less competent supervisory board members,” said Urban. “Rather, the quota has resulted in a situation where the best executives have not always been selected for the job,” he added.

Since mortality rates were high, many young girls often became widows even before attaining maturity. Due to the social and cultural practices of the times, widow remarriage was out of question and therefore prospects for the young widows were poor. Savitribai and Jyotirao were moved by the plight of these girls. These helpless women were easy prey for rape, often by male members of the extended family. Widows who became pregnant would resort to suicide or killing the newborn for fear of being ostracized by the society. Once, Jyotirao stopped a pregnant lady from committing suicide, promising her to give her child his name after it was born. Savitribai accepted the lady in her house and helped her deliver the child. Moved by the treatment of the untouchables, who were refused drinking water meant for the upper caste, the Phule couple opened the well in their own house in 1868 for these communities.
Savitribai Phule and her adopted son, Yashwant, opened a clinic to treat those affected by the worldwide Third Pandemic of the bubonic plague when it appeared in the area around Pune in 1897. RELATIONSHIP
Here are a few signs, through which you can find out, whether the partner with you, stays for long or not.
1
Beside you, regardless of the situations
Happy times, yes, anyone is around you to share it, but it is the person, who is with you in the sad times, you should really concern about. If your partner is with you in all the odd times, understanding the circumstances, not taking the small fights seriously and running away, then you could take your partner for granted for this life.
70
2
When alone, staying away from things you do together
Many things he/she love doing in combination with you, will not be willing to do them individually. For example: If you both love watching a favorite movie, he/she will not be able to watch it individually. He/ she would even be reluctant to go to a place alone, where you are both are equally fond of that particular place.
WWW.WISHESH.COM | APRIL 2016
3
Makes you believe that you are worth
Though you partner says that you are smart, handsome/beautiful, you actually know the truth, whether you really deserves those compliments or not. But a consistent partner, would even make you believe that you are smart and beautiful. Not merely telling it, but he/she will make you feel that you are worth admiring by the people around you. He will do whatever he can, to make you see yourself as he sees you every day
4
Laughs at your mistakes
A man’s ignorance while cooking, or sweeping the house, should make a woman laugh out loud and a woman’s way of driving her man’s bike or the tension she takes in packing her partner’s lunch box early morning, should make a man laugh. He/she should never make you feel bad for unintentionally hurting the feelings. When you are finding few things tough to gain your love, and if your partner is able to smile over it, that could be a consistent and lovable relationship.
5
Hates self, if you are hurt
Your partner is well aware of what hurts you and what not. Anything they utter suddenly against you, then more than you, if your partner falls into deep sorrow, he/she is a boon, to you without your prayer to any god.

Note that would really take your partner’s mood on a different direction and will be able to delete that tension, existed, till then.
Though you can afford to take her to a resort, you know well that it is not possible to do it on a regular basis. Instead, you can still make your room a resort, by turning off the lights, and lighting some candles, with the wine glasses and chilled wine on a neatly decorated table. That arrangement really makes your partner feel special and would be pleased for your interest on them.

Remember those old days, where play hookie from school to watch your favorite movie or to hangout with your bestie. Try out the similar thing with your wife or husband. Royal Enfield
alayan Royal Enfield Himalayan has grabbed a lot of attention by its name. As a matter of fact by the name, we could imagine something tough and stout; this is what the Indian manufacturer wants the audience to picture The manufacturers are aiming at rendering affordable bikes that could be used for general purpose together with even special long rides. The Royal Enfield Himalayan has finally entered upon the Indian two-wheeler market with a competitive price point of 1.55 Lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai) and 1.78 Lakh (OnRoad). The mean machine was one of the most awaited motorbike to be launched in 2016. The RE Himalayan will be powered by brand-new 411cc, single-cylinder, overhead cam, air- cooled engine producing 24.5bhp power at 6,500rpm
and 32Nm of torque at 4,500rpm. The peculiar thing is that this is the first Royal Enfield engine which will be moving away from the regular pushrod architecture, instead possessing overhead cams. So, there is no tappet adjustment required, and the engine is absolutely to be free revving with a massive power band than any Royal Enfield engine in production until now. The new powerful engine will also have longer service interval gaps- with 10,000kms between oil changes, which is quiet an outstanding feature. APRIL 2016 | WWW.WISHESH.COM

The Himalayan will also to be the first Royal Enfield equipped with a mono-shock suspension and with suspension travel of 180mm.
90
Keeping with the ‘adventure tourer’ credentials, the Himalayan boasts a huge 21-inch spokes front wheel and a 17-inch rear wheel, with 220mm of groundclearance. The Himalayan will also to be the first Royal Enfield equipped with a mono-shock suspension and with suspension travel of 180mm. At the front are two 41mm forks, also with extended suspension travel for better off-road performance on the adventure tourer machine. Royal Enfield offers a host of add-on accessories, that include hard-case panniers to carry luggage, as well as soft saddlebags and fuel canisters, which could be mounted and carried on the fuel tank. The fuel tank capacity is at 15 litres which seems inadequate for a bike marketed as an adventure tourer.

Verse meaning The Blessed Lord said: O sinless Arjuna, I have already explained that there are two classes of men who realize the Self. Some are inclined to understand Him by empirical, philosophical speculation and others are inclined to know Him by devotional work.
Explanation The Supreme Lord Krishna explains that jnana yoga and karma yoga are two independent paths. Lord Krishna says that both can give unadulterated devotion to the ultimate truth. Which yoga is superior or subordinate to the other is not a question as they each can attain the desired goal. They are two different paths to a singular destination suited to the ambiences of different aspirants.
The Supreme personality explains that Sankhya-yoga, or the analytical study of the nature of spirit and matter, is the subject matter for persons who are inclined to speculate and understand things by experimental knowledge and philosophy. Lord says, that for purified minds jnana yoga or the yoga of knowledge is appropriate. Those who renounce the ordained activities of family life and society, to fully contemplate and meditate on the ultimate truth like Sanaka are referred to by the word sankyanam and those who adhere to the
ordained guidelines of family life and society and yet glean knowledge like King Janaka are referred to by the word yoginam. The method which promotes spiritual knowledge is known as jnana yoga. Other methods are those which promote actions. Men of action even though possessing spiritual knowledge because of the predominance of activities are known as yogis. Without either spiritual knowledge or selfless actions neither could attain moksa or liberation.

There tend to celebrate varied historical events, victories, or bound things in life like gathering, planting, and reaping. For each state of affairs there was an occasion. However Mahashivratri is of a special significance. The fourteenth day of each lunar moon month or the day before the new phase of the moon is treated as Shivratri. Among all the twelve Shivratris that occur in a very calendar year, Mahashivratri, the one that happens in February-March is of the foremost spiritual significance. On that day, the hemisphere of the earth is positioned in such the way that there’s a natural upsurge of energy in a very person. This is often a day when nature is pushing one towards one’s spiritual peak. It’s to create use of this, that during this tradition, we have a tendency to establish a particular festival that is night-long. Mahashivratri is extremely important for people that are on the spiritual path. It’s additionally very important for people that are in family circumstances, and also for the ambitious in the world. People that board family situations, observe Mahashivratri as Shiva’s wedding anniversary.
Contemporary science has more experienced several phases and got hold of a point today where they’re out to persuade you that everything that you simply know as life, everything that you simply know as matter and existence, everything that you simply know because the cosmos and galaxies, is simply one energy that manifests itself in millions of ways.
Those with worldly passions and ambitions see the day as the day Shiva conquered all his enemies. But, for the ascetics, it’s the day he became one with Mount Kailash. He became sort of a mountain – absolutely still. Within the Hinduism tradition, Shiva is not idolized as a God, but considered as the Adi Guru, the primary Guru from whom the knowledge originated. When several millennia in meditation, sooner or later he became completely still. That day is Mahashivratri. All movement in him stopped and he became totally still, thus ascetics see Mahashivratri as a night of stillness. Light perpetually comes from a supply that’s burning itself out. It sure has a starting and a finish. It’s eternally from a restricted supply.
"
Light has a beginning and an end, whereas darkness is omnipresent. If one looks at sky, the whole milky-way and other cosmic paths are embedded in a vacuum, an emptiness, to be brutally honest it exists in ‘nothing.’ Light could be a transient happening in your mind. Light is not eternal, it’s always a limited possibility because it happens and it ends.
This observation is an experiential reality in each yogi. The word “yogi” suggests that one who has realized the unity of the Existence. ‘Yoga’ is not referred to any one particular practice or system. All longing to grasp the boundless, all desire to grasp the oneness within the existence is yoga. The night of Mahashivratri offers someone a chance to expertise this. Shivarathri literally means The Night of Darkness (or The Night of Nothing), it is the darkest night in a month. Any logical mind would not allow ‘darkness’ as an enlightenment element, they look at light as a savior and a source of life.
The immature minds within the world have perpetually delineated darkness as the devil. However, after one describe the divine as allpervading, its clearly come to the divine as darkness, as a result of solely darkness is all-pervading. It’s everywhere. It doesn’t want any support from something. Light perpetually comes from a supply that’s burning itself out. It sure has a starting and a finish. It’s eternally from a restricted supply. Darkness has no supply. It supplies itself unto many million light-years.

Some nice events with siblings are organized, they need to see more of you.
SAGITTARIUS Mars and Saturn are in your sign the whole month, don’t expect a quiet and relaxed month, everything goes fast in your life, and new events happen constantly. Job offers, invitations to weddings, painting exhibitions, different dates if you are single, your life is full, and you don’t seem to be able to say no to anything. Do you know about the FOMO syndrome? Fear of missing out, that’s it.
CAPRICORN You may want to organize and decorate your home differently: maybe your loved one is moving in with you, or you just bought or rented a new place? You need to declutter and make some space in your closet. You need to be close to water, sea, river or swimming pool, it brings calm and balance to you. Love is about communicating,
PISCES Neptune and south node connect you to your inner life, dreams, inspiration, intuition are strong right now, tap into it. If you feel a sudden attraction to someone you never looked at before, follow your intuition. If you are in a couple, you project plans for the future, short and long term, it makes you feel good to think that maybe next year you will be travelling to Thailand together.
