One of the most known and widely popular silk sarees in India, a well woven Tussar saree is definitely every woman’s Traditional wardrobe ‘Must - Have’ piece. And while a lot is already known about styling this lovely handloom of India, very few people know about this Unique Tussar silk handloom and how it is made. A sneak peak into the making of this five yards of sheer beauty can show you the immense effort and craftsmanship that goes into preparing a perfect Tussar Silk Saree, and after knowing about it all, you sure will appreciate this handloom wonder even more. How is Tussar silk made? Tussar silk is basically an exquisite thread that is obtained from a very wide winged moth which is yellowish-brown in color. Scientifically these moths are known as ‘Antheraea Paphia, basically ’ and they are all a part of a group that is known as the Emperor Moths or Saturniidae. nature. Their wings are embellished by the circular markings which look like the mirror. Indeed, when you look closely in those circular markings, you will be able to see a reflection of yourself. The process of making a tussar silk saree is extensive. It involves a lot of effort and time. The silk worm cocoons are dried in the sun, to evict the silkworms. There are many variations of this process where

these silks have been given a different name based on where the silkworms are reared from? the different plants that these silkworms may feed from will affect its quality. Tussar silk is also considered as more textured than the cultivated Bombyx or “mulberry” silk as it has short fibres, that makes it less durable. It has a dull gold sheen.

these silkworms are allowed to leave, before these cocoons are soaked in boiling water to soften the silk and reel them later. Cocoons that are collected, are mostly single-shelled or oval in shape These cocoons are then boiled in these forms to extract silk yarn from it. Boiling is also considered as a very important part in manufacturing of silk as it can easily soften the cocoon and make the extraction of the silk easier. In the conventional sericulture technique, the cocoons are boiled with the larvae inside, however if these cocoons are boiled after larvae have left them, then the silk that is made is then known as ‘Non-Violent silk’ or ‘Ahimsa silk’. In China,
India is one of the main producer of the Tussar silk with, Jharkhand as the main state of production. Producing Tussar is also a rural art and traditionally, the tribal women in the rural areas are well trained in weaving the Silk out of cocoons and weaving the fabrics out of threads so obtained. Like most of the other textile art, Tussar has also become the fabric of mechanization. India is known as the second largest producer of Tussar silk and an exclusive producer of the Indian Tussar, also known as tropical tussar, it is mostly tended to by the tribals. Most of it is being produced in the Bhagalpur area, Bihar as well as Malda district of West Bengal, where it is known as Bhagalpuri silk. Tussar silk is also known as the Orissa’s Pattachitras and West Bengal’s Kantha stitches. Even Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh produce Tussar silk. In recent years, Jharkhand has emerged as one of the biggest producer of the Tussar silk.
Varieties of Tussar: Tussar, is itself a variety of Silk, which can be divided into many subcategories like the Katia, Ghhichha, Thigh reeled as well as machine reeled. On a further permutation as well as combination of the varieties the two distinct varieties are named as Tussar Ghicchha as well as Mulberry Ghiccha. As far as its maintenance is concerned, it is not at all difficult to maintain a Tussar fabric. However, two things must be taken care of. First, the fabric must be prevented from any type of stains. Secondly, it must be prevented from losing the sheen as well as luster. Ironing the Tussar sarees and the suits, as well as getting them properly dry cleaned once in every three months ensures that your ensemble never lose the freshness. Store them in muslin cloth bags to keep them aerated and clean. This Unique handloom of India is widely popular among Indian ladies. Be it suits, sarees or even dupattas, Tussar silk is always a great choice of fabric. Especially for a wedding trousseau where the bride would have this one piece of handloom excellence forever in her closet.

Rajasthan 20
Kalbelia dance: Kalbelia is a folk dance of Rajasthan state of India. It is well known by other names like ‘Sapera Dance’ or ‘Snake Charmer Dance’. Kalbelia dance is particularly performed by a Rajasthani tribe called ‘Kalbelia’. The worldwide popularity of this dance is so much that Rajasthan’s Kalbelia dance and songs are now in UNESCO’s representative list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity from the year 2010. In Kalbelia dance, males play various traditional instruments and females perform the dance. Kalbelia dance is one of the WWW.WISHESH.COM | DECEMBER 2017
most sensuous dance among all Rajasthani dances. The Kalbelias were known for their frequent movement from one place to another in ancient times. Their traditional occupation is catching snakes and trading snake venom. Hence, the dance movements and the costumes of their community bear a resemblance to that of the serpents. They are also known as Sapera, Jogira or Jogi. They trace their ancestry from Kanlipar, the 12th disciple of Guru Gorakhnath. The largest number of the population of Kalbelias is in Pali district, then Ajmer, Chittorgarh and Udaipur district. They live a
nomadic life and belong to the scheduled tribes. Traditionally, Kalbelia men carried cobras in cane baskets from door to door in villages while their women sang and danced and begged for alms. They revere the cobra and advocate non-killing of the reptile. In the villages, if a snake inadvertently entered a home, then a Kalbelia would be summoned to catch the serpent and to take it away without killing it. Dera: Kalbelias have traditionally been a fringe group in society, living in spaces outside the village where they reside in makeshift

The Kalbelias move their deras from one place to another in a circuitous route repeated over time. Over the generations, the Kalbelias acquired a unique understanding of the local flora and fauna, and are aware of herbal remedies for various diseases which is an alternative source of income for them. The Kalbelia dance, performed to celebrate any joyful moment in the community, is an integral part of Kalbelia culture. Their dances and songs are a matter of pride and a mark of identity for the Kalbelias and they represent the creative adaptation of this
community of snake charmers to changing socioeconomic conditions and their own role in rural Rajasthani society. The dancers are women in flowing black skirts who dance and swirl, replicating the movements of a serpent. The upper body cloth is called Angrakhi and a piece of cloth worn on head known as Odhani similarly the lower body cloth is called Lengha. All these cloths are mixed in red and black hues and embroidered in such a way that when these dancers perform these clothes represent a combination of colors soothing to eyes as well as to the atmosphere.
The male participants take care of the musical part of the dance. They use the different instruments such as the pungi, a woodwind instrument traditionally played to capture snakes, the dufli, been, the khanjari - a percussion instrument, morchang, khuralio and the dholak to create the rhythm on which the dancers perform. When these instruments play all together with poongi, they result into a sensuous and amazing music. The dancers are tattooed in traditional designs and wear jewelry and garments richly embroidered with small mirrors and silver thread. Kalbelia songs are based on stories taken from folklore and mythology and special dances are performed during Holi. The Kalbelia’s have a reputation for composing lyrics spontaneously and improvising songs during performances. These songs and dances are part of an oral tradition that is handed down generations and for which there are neither texts nor training manuals. In 2010, the Kalbelia folk songs and dances of Rajasthan were declared a part of its Intangible Heritage List by the UNESCO.
also one of the most colorful performances of the state as the women wear bright colored ghaghra cholis and dupattas. The men from these communities offer the music to this dance, using string and percussion instruments. Bhavai dance is often misinterpreted from ‘Bhavai’ which is a folk theatre form of Gujarat.
Bhawai
Bhawai Dance Rajasthan is a traditional folk dance that can be traced to the feudal era. A thrilling pot balancing dance of Rajasthan, Bhawai is performed with immense skill. This dance form showcases the art of dancing and gyrating even while balancing many articles and items on one’s head.
Bhawai is a folk dance with swaying and twirling movements that is performed by women from certain tribes from the state of Rajasthan. This folk dance is one of the state’s most exciting dance performances as it involves tricky balancing acts, right from balancing seven to nine brass pots on the head to balancing oneself along with the pots on narrow and unstable objects like a glass bottle, brass plate or the edge of a sword. The brass pots can, and are often, substituted by an even greater number of earthen pots. Bhawai is
Bhawai Dance Form Rajasthan India is mainly performed by veiled women dancers balancing as many as seven or nine brass pitchers on their heads as they dance nimbly, often pirouetting and swaying with their feet resting atop a glass or on the edge of a sword. one’s head.
Women The women, irrespective of which tribe they belong to, wear ghaghra cholis along with colorful dupattas and silver ornaments. The ghaghra as opposed to the lehenga is slightly shorter but is ideal for dancing, especially one as tricky as the Bhawai, as it allows absolute freedom of movement while also safeguarding the wearer from tripping over their own clothes. The costume can be in any color the performer wishes to wear as long as it is vibrant. It is not uncommon to see the performers sporting palette that would otherwise be termed as stark contrasts, such as pink and yellow, red and blue and more. The
cholis worn by the women are essentially fitted blouses that end at the waist. They are short sleeved so as to give space to the extensive ornamentation for the arms. The whole ensemble is usually of the tie and dye print, which is one of the most popular craft forms in Rajasthan. Alongside, there are a number of embellishments on the choli as well as ghaghra, the most common being mirror work and gota patti work. There are also colorful tassels in the form of little balls of thread that hang from the sleeves of the blouse or the waist. The dupatta is the primary accessory for the performers. It is draped over the head and made to fall loosely around the shoulders. However, this is only the appearance the drape gives, the dupatta is actually is pinned to the choli at various points. The tassels
on the border of the dupatta frame the woman’s face. The border itself is embellished heavily, in contrast to the body of the dupatta which is usually minimalistic. The women wear silver bangles as well as silver armlets, a set of a dozen at least, on each arm. While this is the preferred accessory, women can also wear colorful glass bangles to go with the attire.
Men There are any number of ensembles that men who give the background score to the Bhawai dance can sport. The most common of these is the white or offwhite dhoti kurta. This look is completed by the adornment of a colorful sleeveless jacket and a kamarbandh. When the dhoti kurta is plain, the jacket and kamarbandh become the heavily embellished elements of the ensemble. These can have mirror work and can be in a number of bright colors.
On the other hand, the menfolk involved in this dance also tend to wear colorful kurtas that end a little below the hips, paired with colorful pajamas. The common aspect of both these ensembles however, is the colorful headdress. Tied using a colorful bandhani cloth, this headdress is a defining characteristic of Rajasthani men.
Pots While this is a disparate element, the pots on the women’s heads also play a great part in enhancing the overall style of the dance. Since balancing of the pots is the premise of Bhawai, the artists take great care to decorate the pots as beautifully as possible. Whether brass or clay, there is a lot of effort that goes into beautifying the pots. The way in which the vessels are decorated depends on the customs or beliefs of the tribe and the individual taste of the performers. DECEMBER 2017 | WWW.WISHESH.COM

He- announced about India’s biggest-ever cash ban on November 8, last year. He declared that all 500 and 1,000 rupee notes would discontinue to be legal tender in a surprise television announcement. It was called as “Demonetisation” that applied to 86% of the value of all currency in circulation. Although in this due process, it forced out the hoarded cash people had hidden to avoid paying taxes. Subsequently, when criticism flared up, the government said Demonetisation would also help India move from cash to digital money.
Black Money Shortly after the cash ban was declared last year, the government’s counsel told the Supreme Court that about a
third of the Rs. 15.44 lakh crore of bills invalidated wouldn’t be deposited into banks, meaning that Indians would rather sacrifice this money rather than risk being spotted. However, 99% of the notes have been returned. Arjen van Dijkhuizen, a senior economist with ABN Amro Bank NV in Amsterdam said via an email that “As almost all cash withdrawn has been translated into a rise in bank deposits, one can question to what extent Demonetisation has really been effective in wiping out black money,”
Tax Evasion The analysts are most optimistic about Demonetisation probably when it comes DECEMBER 2017 | WWW.WISHESH.COM

Shailesh Kumar who is a senior analyst for Asia at Eurasia Group said “The exercise changed the public’s perception of what the government can, and will do to root out corruption”. He also added that “In some ways PM Modi was rewarded for it, as he was seen taking on the issue of corruption which many believe is one of India’s biggest problems.” The gamble appeared to have paid off electorally where PM Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party swept elections in March in the important state of Uttar Pradesh. However, growth has since laggard and there are noises of discontentment going into elections in Gujarat Mr Modi’s home state, next month. Opinion polls still call the vote for the BJP. Also, the party said that it will mark November 8 as the anniversary of the decision as “Anti-black money day” every year.

Dijkhuizen added his thoughts about Tax evasion saying “It is clear that the short-term pains from these currency operations have been more concrete and visible than potential longterm gains, but that does not mean that there aren’t any,”
Digitization Pushing India towards becoming a cashless economy was another explanation that Demonetisation was publicized for. A vanguard of digital mercantilism, providers have undoubtedly profited from PM Modi’s move. The largest players who have seen a surge on customer base since November last year is Paytm, backed by China’s Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. Demonetisation also triggered record domestic inflows into mutual funds, which have gushed multiple records into the equity market. While after the cash has returned to the economy, overall digital transactions have dipped, the government points as a win for the comparatively lower levels of currency in circulation. India would have had some Rs. 18 lakh crore in high-value bills today, if it wasn’t for Demonetisation. Whereas, Economic Affairs Secretary Subhash Garg estimates
it to be Rs. 12.5 lakh crore instead. He added saying “So the potential of storing black money is so much reduced. You are doing the same economic activity with the money in circulation,”
Terrorism Fake Indian currency notes were known to be used by the Terrorist organization for
funding their plan and the government considered that this could be restricted with the help of Demonetisation. Rs. 474.37 crore in new and old currency were seized by the Income Tax department from November 9, 2016 to January 4, 2017 (the Demonetisation period). However, there are no reports if the money seized had any direct link with terror
Funding. Instances of stone pelting in the border which had fallen down drastically after the cash ban has started rising again at Jammu & Kashmir. While there was a dip in fatalities in insurgent violence, immediately after Demonetisation, we still are not very clear about the direct
link. Here are the few more facts and consequences India saw after a year of Demonetisation: 1. Formalizing Indian economy and ensuring better jobs for the poor: According to Modi’s Twitter account, 50 lakhs laborers got their bank accounts activated and 1.03 DECEMBER 2017 | WWW.WISHESH.COM

crore registrations of laborers happened in ESIC (Employee’s State Insurance Corporation). 2. Decisive blow to terrorism and naxalism: Terror incidents are down 45 per cent, in Naxal affected states, according to data from the South Asia Terrorism Portal (SATP). 3. New growth of imports -- The growth of imports rose by 23 per cent in a year:. Comparing the increased rise in India’s imports to China, the country’s import in first half of 2016-17 stood at Rs 1.96 lakh crore, whereas in 2017-18 it was inflated to Rs 2.41 lakh crore.

4. All cash withdrawn has been translated into a rise in bank deposits: After the cash ban was declared in 2016, only about a 3rd of the Rs 15.44 lakh crore of invalidated bills wasn’t deposited into banks. The rest of the money made bank deposits were increased. Subhash Garg, the Economic Affairs Secretary comments: “So the potential of storing black money is so much reduced. You are doing the same economic activity with the money in circulation.” 5. Reduction black money hoarding and same with the money in circulation: If it wasn’t for Demonetisation
India would have had some Rs 18 lakh crore in high-value bills today as compared to the now Rs 12.5 lakh crore. 6. Long queues to withdraw money leading to deaths: In 720 hours after one month of the declaration of Demonetisation last year, there were 720,000 deaths, as reported by Forbes on December 8, 2016. 7. Demonetisation adversely affected the labourers in the textile, footwear, plastic and metal industry : Labourers from Delhi were compelled to leave National Capital Territory as they are

His advice is that we should think very seriously if for the object in view (as he deduces from the declaration form) whether this is an opportune time to proceed
unable to get money after demonetisation. RBI governor was skeptical of government’s move to strip currency of legal tender characteristic at short notice. It was not the first time that RBI governor felt this. According to RBI’s relevant volume:“Sir Chintaman Deshmukh (governor) felt that we may not get even as much as Rs. 10 crores as additional tax revenue from tax evasion and that the contemplated measure, if designed to achieve such a purpose, has no precedent
with the scheme. Provided Government are satisfied on the points of (i) sparing harassment to the unoffending holders and (ii) a worthwhile minimum of results in the shape of extra tax revenue, he does not wish to object to the scheme as drafted, if Government wish to proceed with it notwithstanding the administrative difficulties involved.” Governor of RBI, I. G Patel in 1978, when the ordinance was promulgated was not happy about the government move. The relevant quotes from the part from Patel’s memoirs

which were as follows: “such an exercise seldom produces striking results. Most people who accept illegal gratification or are otherwise the recipients of black money do not keep their ill-gotten earnings in the form of currency for long. The idea that black money or wealth is held in the form of notes tucked away in suitcases or pillow cases is naïve. And in any case, even those who are caught napping— or waiting—will have the chance to convert the notes through paid agents as some provision has to be made to convert at par notes tendered in small amounts for which explanations cannot be reasonably sought. But the gesture had to be made, and produced much work and little gain.” DECEMBER 2017 | WWW.WISHESH.COM

There were few comments from the readers expressing their views below: Shailendra Kumar shared his opinion on the NDTV online page saying “While the intention of retrieving black money was good, the adventurous methodology of De-mo has brought utter disappointment. let alone hundreds of them having breathed their last in desperation and anxiety. That Modi had to admit that he is no economist does not absolve of the damages caused to the national growth. The utter chaos and the misstep of the centre could hardly shroud the barren balance sheet of retrieval of blackmoney. Why should the PM ignore the alarm bell of Raguram rajan, Amarthiyasen, Prabhat Patnaik is still unknown.” Sundar Raman also commented on the NDTV online page few weeks ago saying “Demonetisation was OK, but Rs 2000 note
brought in was the spoiler. Digital transactions are still to catch up. Fake currency operators are moving at same speed as the Government and deliver it on day 1 of RBI issuing the new notes. What has been achieved is - arrest of the artificial boost in real estate market and bringing difficulties in Black money operations in it, which was the norm earlier. , Earned the goodwill of people who patently borne the pains with hope of corruption being attacked, made using illegal money difficult. Eklavya
and
Dronacharya WWW.WISHESH.COM | DECEMBER 2017
Since ages, the story of Eklavya( a character from the Indian epic- Mahabharata) has come to define exemplary discipleship. But there is an unheard and unseen side to the famous story. Near the ashrama of Drona, where Arjuna and his brothers used to take lessons in various arts, there lived a small bright boy, shudra by caste (lower caste). His name was Eklavya. He had great desire to learn the art of archery from Dronacharya. But his mother had told him that as a shudra, Acharya Drona would not accept Eklavya as his disciple. It was futile to dream of such a privilege. Eklavya was the son of a poor hunter. He wanted to learn archery to save the deer in the forest that were being hunted by the leopards. So he went to Dronacharya (a master of advanced military arts) and requested him to teach him archery. Dronacharya was the teacher of the Royal family. In those days, as a rule, a teacher to the members of Royal family was not allowed to teach the state art to anybody else. It was forbidden to make anyone as powerful as the prince’s for the safety of the region. But Eklavya deeply desired
to study under Dronacharya. Dronacharya, bound by the state law, could not accept him as his student. Eklavya in his heart had already accepted Dronacharya as his Guru. He went home and made a statue of his Guru. Over the following years, with sincerity and practice, he learnt archery and became better than the state princes at the art. He became so good at it that, he would hear the sound of the animal, shoot an arrow at it and claim the animal. One day, Arjuna, the prince found out about this talented archer. Making matters worse, he saw that Eklavya was far better than him. He went to Eklavya and asked him, ‘Who taught you archery?’
‘Dronacharya,’ said Eklavya. Hearing this, Arjuna was furious. He went up to Dronacharya and said angrily, ‘What is this? You have cheated us. What you have done is a crime. You were supposed to teach me exclusively, but you taught
this man and made him more skillful than me.’ Dronacharya was baffled and confused at Arjuna’s allegations. He wondered who this student of his was, who had learned the art from him but whose name and identity he did not know! He thought hard but could not come up with an answer for Arjuna. He could not believe, this student was better than even Arjuna. Both, Dronacharya and Arjuna decided to meet the boy. Eklavya welcomed his master with great honor and love. He led both of them to the statue he had made of Dronacharya. Eklavya had practiced archery over all the years, considering and believing the statue to be his Guru. In ancient times, a common practice in learning was- Guru Dakshina, where a student would give a token of gift or fee for the knowledge gained by the student. Dronacharya said, ‘Eklavya, you must give me some Guru Dakshina. You must give me DECEMBER 2017 | WWW.WISHESH.COM

the thumb of your right hand.’ Eklavya knew that without the thumb, archery could not be practiced. But Eklavya had no such remorse. Unruffled and with due humility, cheerfully and without protest, he cut his right thumb and placed at the feet of Dronacharya. Gods in the heaven silently praised the greatness of Eklavya’s sacrifice. The trees and atmosphere around stood still for a minute! Even Arjuna was stunned on listening to the unusual and almost cruel demand of his Guru. To ask for the thumb of an archer was equivalent to almost kill him! How could Dronacharya demand such a heavy prize WWW.WISHESH.COM | DECEMBER 2017
from one disciple to protect the honour of the other! In this story Dronacharya is commonly viewed as being cruel and self-centered. The perceived understanding is, this boy who has learned the skill on his own and is good at it, is made to give it up for the vested interest of Dronacharya. But when one looks at it from the point of view of the wise, one finds, if it were not for this incident, nobody would have ever known Eklavya. Though on the outside, it seemed as if Dronacharya had done injustice to Eklavya, actually Dronacharya uplifted Eklavya from just being a student to becoming an epitome of discipleship. Dronacharya blessed Eklavya with immortality by asking him for his thumb. So when people think of devotion, they think of Eklavya, and not Arjuna. “See the greatness of Dronacharya, he took the blame on him and uplifted his student. That is why, even if the Guru is wrong, if your devotion is there you can never go wrong. But the Guru is not wrong, it appears he was partial but he uplifted Eklavya and preserved his Dharma (duty) also. His duty was to maintain the law of the land: You cannot have anyone much better than the prince.”Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

He gained a lot of clout inside the Redmond, Wash.-based software giant for his part in Microsoft’s move to the cloud — an agenda he has pushed since stepping into the CEO role. In March, Nadella announced Office for iPad, a highly anticipated and long overdue version of its bread-and-butter productivity software for Apple’s popular tablet. In April, at the company’s Build developer conference, he stepped further into the spotlight to lay the foundation for the company’s vision for “one Windows” across phones, tablets, PCs and even its Xbox video-game console.
Recently in September 2017, Nadella and his wife opened up about their struggles at personal front and how they are parenting special needs children. Their oldest son Zain, 21, is severely disabled. He was born with extreme asphyxiation in utero and weighed meagre 3 pounds. Zain is visually impaired and has limited communication and is quadriplegic. Then they had two daughters one of whom had learning differences beyond what public schools could cope up with. Nadella’s wife Annu then found a Vancouver based academy which focuses neuroplasty of the brain which enriches brain to function at a new level altogether.
“After Zain, things started to change for me,” Satya says. “It has had a profound impact on how I think, lead and relate to people.” His wish: that we’ll all feel empowered to create our own change at home and at work, one empathetic step at a time — starting with the happy-life lessons he and Anu have learned over the years.
Nadella says he learnt a valuable lesson from his wife — empathy. “Her empathy for others runs deep, and from her I have learned that when I infuse empathy into my every day actions it is powerful, whether they be in my role as a father or as a CEO.”
Nadella has been truly inspirational, in bringing up his son to take chances and supporting him through failures and successes, which greatly contributes to this empathetic leadership style. His mission for Microsoft is to empower every person and company to achieve more. A passion to give people of varying abilities the tools, to empower them, to achieve their goals is a mission birthed from empathy. This proud NRI has worked to change Microsoft’s competitive culture to one that embraces these values internally so that they are reflected with its customers.

The US Congressional Committee Voted For An
Increase In Minimum Salary
Of H-1B Visa
A top congressional committee in the USA voted for passing a legislation that proposed an increase in the minimum salary bar of the H-1B Visa Holders from the present 60,000 USD to 90,000 USD and it imposes several limitations on this work visa that is popular among Indian IT professionals. The Protect and Grow American Jobs Act (HR 170) was passed by the House Judiciary Committee during a markup hearing which was introduced by the Courts, WWW.WISHESH.COM | DECEMBER 2017
Intellectual Property and the Internet Subcommittee Chairman Darrell Issa. It is now passed on to the full house for further necessary proceedings. For this bill to be passed on to the US president, Donald Trump; the senate need to first pass a similar version of this bill for it to be signed and made into a law. But the sharp difference between the White House and the Democratic and Republican Lawmakers, on the topic of Immigration and its various
aspects, including the H-1B Visa, the clear passage of this bill to became a law seems a distant task. This bill prohibits the H-1B dependent employers from exchanging American workers with H-1B employees. There are no longer any such exceptions. It also has in place a no layoff policy for H-1B dependent employers and their client companies, so far an H-1B employee works at the company, which means that an equivalent US worker cannot be laid off. The H-1B dependent employers are to be exempted from the previous requirement of recruiting a US worker first. The protect and Grow American Jobs Act has dramatically increased the salary requirements of H-1B workers. The bill states that they must pay the lower of 135,000 USD, which is subjected to rising prices, or an average wage for that occupation in the area. And with a lower slab of $90,000, as reported in the house judiciary committee’s media release. Congressman Issa in defense of the Bill, said that “it is the responsibility of the lawmakers to ensure that H-1B is not exploited by those who are using it to outsource jobs for cheap and in the process undercut the American workers.”
He further added, that “Unfortunately, a handful of companies have exploited this provision by crowding out the employers who need limited slots available to bring in the brightest and most talented people from around the world.” Congressman Issa also added by saying“The Protect and Grow American Jobs Act is a common-sense update that will go a long way to protecting American workers while helping companies have better access to the talent they need to grow their businesses and create new jobs here in America” Congressman Bon Goodlatte said that Unfortunately, the currently H-1B visa programme stands in conflict with the nations as well as the American worker’s interest. And in order to protect the Average American worker and curtail the abuse of the system, these reforms are much needed. NASSCOM strongly disagrees with the US lawmakers. Chandrashekhar who is the NASSCOM president, said“Unfortunately, this legislation is being driven by myths, not reality. US government data show very significant shortages of high skill talent around the country. The data show that the high skill visa programmes are not a major cause of US unemployment, and IT specialists functioning
on temporary visas are not cheap labour” According to the US Bureau of Labour and Statistics, across their country, about 20 million people lose their jobs every year. These are not necessarily linked to hiring H-1B employees. Also, the annual figure of H-1Bs given to the top IT service companies related to India in 2016 was a very minor portion of the US workforce. Chandrashekhar also argued that according to the Pew research center based on fiscal 2016 data from USCIS, for the top 8 India centric IT service companies, the average salary for the H-1B visas was even higher that the median salary for US citizens in Similar computer related or mathematical jobs. So it does not prove the cheap labour point. Already the employers are highly scrutinized who use this H-1B visa provisions and the NASSCOM member companies abide by all its laws and rules. He finally said that NASSCOM continues to support every effort of the government to root out any fraud or abuse in the H-1B system. Quite simply, our members also deserve the same treatment as their American or European counterparts.

The administration has however asked for an additional 90-day review of this program for about 11 countries which were identified as “high risk. Most of these countries are situated in the Middle East and Africa region. to ensure the security and welfare of the United States of America. Prior to this, The president had suspended the processing of all refugees to the US for the stipulated period of 120 days according to the executive order. This was issued along with a travel ban on several Muslim-
majority countries of the world. However, as per according to the Department of Homeland Security, Individuals from these high risk nations will be considered for a resettlement in USA on a case-by-case basis. If they are found to be in the US
national interest and don’t pose a security threat, they can be allowed to resettle. The Applicants from countries other than these few, would not be required to prove they are in the national interest of the United States. Besides this, the Trump administration has also temporarily withheld a programme that allowed family reunification of some refugees, that are already resettled in the United States. The resettling
process for them is expected to start again, once the screening enhancements are implemented.
Background On 29 September 2017, the White House informed that the United states president, Mr. Donald Trump had set the ceiling for refugee admissions at 45,000 for Fiscal Year 2018, which began on 1 October 2017. This was the lowest-ever cap, since the refugee admissions program began in 1975.
Donald Trump took to office in January 2017. He ordered a temporary ban on refugees and an additional travel ban on several Muslim Majority nations. He lived true to the promises he made during the Presidential campaign, the goal of keeping ‘America First’. These restrictions along with the travel bans have been criticised as being policies aimed at barring Muslims from entering the United States.

This move has been welcomed, as a step to empower and engage women of the society as an integral part of the development process of the nation. and females in public. The General Sports Authority on September 2017, allowed women for the first time to enter the King Fahd Stadium in Riyadh to celebrate Saudi Arabia’s National Day. The announcement to allow women into sports stadiums came hardly a month after Mohammed bin Salman, the Crown Prince Of Saudi Arabia, issued an order allowing women to drive. These changes seem to be a deliberate and sincere effort to support Saudi Arabia’s “Vision 2030” plan for economic and social reforms in the nation.

Much like Ryan International, most Indian schools, who charge hefty fees from every single parent pay minimum heed to this basic necessity of a child.
8
Schools also give low priority to another important requirement of safety audits. For example, Last year a student of a Gurgaon school died after being hit by a speeding car because the school bus which was travelling on the route without an attendant, apparently dropped her on the wrong side of the road. Same year in August, a student died after PHOTO : NewIndianExpress
falling from the second floor of an upscale Ghaziabad school.
9
And just like in the case of the innocent Pradyuman Thakur, parents feel extremely angered and come down to protest but in the end the outcomes have far eluded to materialize from the promises to Reality. However, this time, after getting emails and letters from concerned parents all around the country, CBSE has come up with a set of guidelines for safety and protection of child in school. From the outside it seems like a promising pretext, more so, as the schools face getting de-recognized if the safety guidelines are not adhered to. But unless an effective institutionalized corrective mechanism is put to place and used efficiently, a safe learning environment will continue to elude the country’s school children.

An incident when Bose had beaten up his professor E.F. Otten for his racist remark, was also highlighted and brought him notoriety as a rebel-Indian in the eyes of the government. His father wanted Netaji to become a civil servant and therefore encouraged him to go to England to take the Indian Civil Service Examination. Bose was ranked fourth with highest marks in English. But, the urge of Netaji to participate in the freedom movement was intense leading him to resign in April 1921 from the coveted Indian Civil Service and he traveled back to India. Bose was arrested and jailed in December 1921 for boycott, of the celebrations to mark the Prince of Wales visit to India. At the time of Bose’s visit to Berlin, he met and fell in love with Emily Schenkl who was WWW.WISHESH.COM | DECEMBER 2017
an Australian by origin. Bose got married to Emily in the year 1973 in a secret Hindu Traditional ceremony, and Emily gave birth to Anita, their daughter in 1942. Bose then left Germany to return to India.
Political Career and Association with Indian National Congress Subhash Chandra Bose, in the beginning, started working under Chittaranjan Das who was an active leader and member of the Congress in Calcutta. It was Chittaranjan Das in 1922, along with Motilal Nehru, who left Congress and founded the Swaraj Party. Bose viewed Chittaranjan Das as his political guru. He started the newspaper
‘Swaraj’ and also edited Das’ newspaper called ‘Forward’. He worked as the CEO of Calcutta Municipal Corporation under Das’ stint as Mayor. To enlighten the students and youth as well as the laborers of Calcutta, Subhash Chandra Bose played an important role. In his passionate wait to see independent India, federal and republic nation, he emerged as an appealing and revolutionary youth icon. The congress admired his great ability in organizational development. He served several imprisonments for his nationalist undertakings during this time.
Dispute with the Congress During the Guwahati
Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was born in Orissa to Janakinath Bose and Prabhavati Devi. Session of the Congress in 1928, a dispute surfaced between the old and new members of the Congress. The young leaders sought after a complete self-rule and without any compromise, while the senior leaders were in the favor of the dominion status for India within the British rule. The dissimilarities between moderate Gandhi and aggressive Subhash Chandra Bose enhanced to contradictory proportions and Bose decided to walk out from the party in 1939. He decided to form the Forward Bloc the same year. Although in his correspondences, he clearly voiced his dislikes for British but he also expressed his appreciation for their organized way of life. He saw with the leaders of the British Labor Party and political thinkers and discussed the likelihoods
that India might hold after independence, including Clement Attlee, J.B.S. Haldane, Harold Laski, Arthur Greenwood, Sir Stafford Cripps and G.D.H. Cole.
Formation of the INA Bose strongly opposed the Congress’ choice to support the British during the Second World War. With the goal to initiate a mass movement, Bose called out to Indians for their whole-hearted contribution and involvement. There was a remarkable response to his call “Give me blood and I will give you freedom” and the British promptly jailed him. While in the jail, he declared a hunger-strike. When his health worsened, the authorities freed him but kept him under house-arrest fearing the violent reactions. Subhash made a planned escape in January 1941 and reached Berlin, Germany via a bypass through Peshawar. Germans guaranteed him their full support in his undertakings and he gained the allegiance of Japan as well. He was assumed to command over 40,000 soldiers recruited from Singapore and other South East Asian regions when he took a risky journey back east and reached Japan. He named his army the ‘Indian National Army’ (INA) and led the same to seize the Andaman and Nicobar islands from the British and checked it as Shaheed
and Swaraj Islands. A provisional “Azad Hind Government” started working in the captured territories. The INA Azad Hind Fauj” started for India on 18 March 1944, and crossed Burma Border to stand on Indian soil. Unluckily, he was forced to call off the further advancement as the World War took a turn and the Japanese and German forces surrendered.
Death Indian nationalist leader Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was missing mysteriously soon after the retreat. It is said that he went back to Singapore to meet the head of all military operations in South East Asia who organized for him a flight Tokyo. Why We All Need A
Digital Detox Right Away?
Our day starts with a cell phone alarm blaring into our ears, only to show us the numerous notifications of what happened the few hours when we were asleep. Our digital connections don’t spare us even for our morning nature calls, and it is certainly ruining our health and wellness. WWW.WISHESH.COM | DECEMBER 2017
Our lives are so embedded with a 5” gadget that advancements of making it an all-in-one device are spearheading towards gazillion new discoveries. The digital paradox of technology spurns technology and technology mother’s technology only to ruin it further is true to its fullest. And while a few years ago, detox was always related to our physical health, it now means much more for our mental and emotional wellbeing too. There is a worldwide movement of “digital detox” to resist the information overload coming along with the digital devices. There is a prolific epidemic called the Internet Addiction Disorder, which is rooting deeper into our days and strengthening it hold in our lives. An upheaval into our health and fitness routine, also causing anxiety and stress to shoot up alarmingly high. Trolls, hate posts and body shaming are just a few examples on how depressing some of these platforms are. But still, they are fetched more often than we speak with our own partner.
Side Effects Of Digital Dependency: 1- Some researches suggest we check our smartphones almost 200 times a day, which is like way too much. Of the realistic 16 hours we
are awake, we are checking it 200 times. Around 12.5 times every hour, so that comes down to more than once every 5 minutes. So what about the cognitive self, how do we get focus, concentration, memory, attention, retention, learning and perception when every 301st second of our life is jammed with smart-phones. 2- Around 80% teenagers and young adults prefer texting over talking: So that means our 1530 age group must definitely see more of rheumatologists. Heard of texting thumb syndrome or de quervain’s tenosynovitis a disease of thumb and wrist. Most of us suffer with the damaging effects already, and there’s no long term cure for this deformity yet. 3- An average smartphone user sends 3500 texts from their bed: So this is more of damage to the meagre 8 hours of sleep a day. Digital Insomnia is even more prevalent than the medical insomnia. We are damaging our muscles of hands, over straining our eyes and disrupting sleep patterns. Hail stress, hail anxiety and hail depression for digital age is here and will stay, until we resolve to free our minds.
How Can You Do A Digital Detox? Digital detox is actually staying away from digital media for a fixed amount of time. It
is almost partial digital abstinence. Don’t let your need become your greed for digitization. Follow some of the below and shed the digital toxins off your body:
1- Buy a camera: This is where the cell-phone transgression to a smartphone began from.If you are one who completely agrees, make the switch today. It is easier to grab a cell phone, I agree but most of the memories you make from the cell phone are either too blur or they just never make it to an album print. The Camera prints are more cherished and somehow more likely to get printed due to the less accessiblity compared to a mobile phone screen.
2- Get a fitness tracker: An app or a smartwatch is not the solution for tracking fitness accomplishments. If you are serious about your detox endeavors, buy yourself a fitness tracker which only tracks your fitness and does not give any digital indulgence. Serves the purpose and doesn’t let you wander off.
3- Buy an alarm clock: DECEMBER 2017 | WWW.WISHESH.COM
LIFE STYLE
Digital detox is actually staying away from digital media for a fixed amount of time.
92
Why grab the smartphone when the old school alarm clock is more suitable for the job. This vintage alarm clock is easier to access, and better than your phone since, you won’t be able to snooze or dismiss it as easily, so you know you have to get up. Plus, you won’t have to attend hundreds of screen notifications everyday, instead wake up to appreciate the morning sun. You will realise suddenly how it is much better in reality than your mobile screen wallpaper.
4- Stacking routine: We as a family, follow this stacking routine. Our meal times together begin with all smartphones, tablets and other digital media resting at peace, for sometime, by stacking them up at a place which is away from visual paradigms. And it’s the little ones agenda for prior WWW.WISHESH.COM | DECEMBER 2017
to meals, a quick grab of mommy and daddy’s devices with the chantings of our philosophical parenting times,”no phones when we eat”
5- Make your bedroom digital-free: Allow for some normalization time for this very difficult sacrifice to materialize. The best way to keep this digital detox goal more achievable is to keep your bedroom devoid of the so called smart devices. Stick to the old school alarm clock and night lamp way of waking up. This way you keep your involuntary reflex of checking the phone even mid way in the night sleep away. Slowly you will have a better sleep and you will feel less and less drawn towards the digital world.
6- Talk more: Avoid texting as much as you can. Instead, call up or even better meet in person. This will not only be enriching, but also be a refreshing change. We must stop sending texts for wishing birthdays and anniversaries, also for exchanging greetings on festivals. A mass load of forward from whatsapp or hangouts looks like a time saving preposition, but for those few close people in your friends or family deserve
better. Though they may also believe in saving time, and have no idea about your digital detox, But it will be a change they will absolutely love. Remember change is inevitable and it begins from within us and branches out around. And didn’t Gandhi say, “Be the change you wish to see”
7- Disable push notifications: Sounds simple, right? But honestly it has really great results. Sometime we maybe on our digital detox and suddenly there’s a pop up, that critical text or email notification makes the detox go for a toss. It is good decision to disable all notifications prior to proceeding for your digital detox. Our body and mind must be in tandem and acting wisely for our detox digital diet.
8- Drive with your cell phone in silent mode: This is not just for the detox regime, but even so for more grave causes. Distraction while driving can cause us our life or other innocent life on road. Smartphones are known to cause 70% of accidents and over 20% accidental deaths while driving. On a lighter note, we need to live to see what is left for being discovered in
this digital age. So keep your phone aside and concentrate on the view outside.
9- Digital age to the rescue: BUY TECHNOLOGY TO BEAT TECHNOLOGY: We have photo editing apps, alarm and office organizing apps, fitness tracker apps, calorie intake app, baby monitoring app and in fact an app for everything our life needs or is made to need. So, if you are having a tough time trying to keep away from the phone completely, try going for small goals with the help of apps, Yes. Let us add some more apps, and make our digital detox revolution, a factual and controlled regime. Several apps can register your actual times away from your Digital devices. download them and set a target for the day. Swiftly rise ahead with the
daily time-off from these devices.
10- Go on a Digitaldetox-wanderlust: This probably would be the toughest and if you conquer this for a 5-7 day time, it will be your reign over the world of digital media. There can be no better medicine than a travel to a place unknown. Make an effort to keep your phone shut for the amount of time you are on your vacation. Take a break not just from your work life but also the digital world that constantly surrounds you. This enriching experience can change the way you look at life now and believe us, this digital detox won’t seem that hard after all. Small tip- Carry a small old school multimedia phone, to contact when need be. The fact that this phone has no apps will keep your detox on track.
Don’t let the fear of missing out on the digital updates, make your personal and professional life missing from your attention spectrum. Drive away your digital media induced fears, and enable health and wellness in your lives. Take an oath and begin one at a time. We are sure you don’t wish to join the internet rehab programs. For these internet rehab programs are not rib-ticklers anymore, large number of psychologists and medical professionals are bringing forth these systematic and therapeutic programs to assist internet addicted youth. All you need is a will and we are sure you will emerge through this. We are sure that only a small span of a few days, to see the world outside of the 5” screen can make you realise what actually you’re missing out.

160th Year Anniversary Of India’s First War Of Independence 2017 is the year that marks the completion of 160 years of the first war of Indian Independence. A year where the actual struggle to set the nation free truly began. This 160th anniversary of the starting of the Indian struggle for Independence, let us learn more about this brave fight against the British rule and our valiant freedom fighters who united the entire country as one and started the quest for a free India. A country that we know today as a sovereign, socialist, federal, democratic republic. Here is an ode to the first freedom fighters and to the revolt of 1857.
WWW.WISHESH.COM | DECEMBER 2017
Often termed as India’s first war of independence, this act of rebellion and the following fight back is better known as the Indian Rebellion of 1857. It was in May 1857 that this revolt broke out. The first martyr of the revolt was the well known sepoy, Mangal Pandey and the resulting war was because of an accumulation of many factors over time.
Causes of the revolt of 1857: There was clear discrimination among the British and Indian soldiers of the troops. It has been believed that the behavior of British officers as well as the soldiers towards Indians serving in the army was quite rude and there was also a difference in matters of promotion, pension and service provisions of the two. By January 1857, rumours had been doing rounds that the English ammunition cartridges were greased with animal fat. This was a big blow for the religious Indian populace who consider vegetarianism as a religious matter. This was further sparked when during a fight, a low-caste sepoy taunted a high caste sepoy for ‘losing his caste’ after biting the cartridge as they were greased with the fat of pigs and cows
There had also been stories flying around that the British were intentionally trying to destroy the religions of the Indian people and they cared nothing about our religious sentiments getting hurt. The unrest among the troops was not heard and addressed which further aggravated it. One of the other reasons was the introduction of a new land revenue system which snatched the land from cultivators. It led to easy exploitation of the labour class by zamindars, rich landlords and the money lenders.
What Triggered The Revolt? The immediate cause of the revolt of 1857 was that the outbreak of the rising unrest among religious Indian soldiers. The British had introduced a new Enfield P-53 rifle, It used a cartridge which was covered in a wrapper made of paper that was greased. Before using this cartridge, the soldiers had to bite off that greased wrapper to load the cartridge into the rifle. News spread that the grease used on these cartridge covers was cow and pig fat. Since cows are holy to hindus and pigs are considered Haram in Islam both the hindus and muslims started to Panic.
At a parade ground in Barrackpore, A 29-yearold sepoy, Mangal Pandey of the 34th BNI, disturbed by the recent actions of the East India Company, declared that he would rebel against his commanders. He opened fire and injured a Sergeant and also the Adjutant’s horse while trying to fire at the officer. Looking at him, the entire troop of sepoys gathered courage and refused to restrain him. Mangal pandey was however caught and hanged to death after a few days on charges of mutiny. The entire battalion was disbanded. The rebellion of 1857 is considered the first blow that came to shatter the British rule in India. Some of the other rebellions and leaders included Rani Lakshmibai (Jhansi), Kunwar Singh(Jagdishpur), Bahadur Shah Zafar (Delhi), Nana Saheb (Cawnpore), Tatia Tope(Kanpur) and Begum Hazrat Mahal(Lucknow). This was the immediate cause, but what followed later was spurts of strong incidences of rebellion against the British Imperialism to throw them off and acquire a unified and free India. Following events happened at various places in India.

INDIAN HISTORY
It was in May 1857 that this revolt broke out. The first martyr of the revolt was the well known sepoy, Mangal Pandey and the resulting war was because of an accumulation of many factors over time. At Meerut sepoys also refused 108 to bite the greased cartridges with their teeth. These 85 soldiers were ordered to get a court-martial and imprisoned. They were stripped off their uniforms in the presence of the entire Indian crowd and humiliated in front of their own people. These Indian soldiers at Meerut broke into open revolt. They released their companions and murdered a few European officers. On the night of 10th May the mutineers marched to Delhi and reached there on 11th May to declare Bahadur Shah Zafar as their emperor.
2- Delhi The revolutionaries reached Delhi and the small British WWW.WISHESH.COM | DECEMBER 2017
garrison at Delhi was not able to resist and consequently lost. The Mughal Emperor, Bahadur Shah Zafar, was proclaimed Emperor of India. In order to regain Delhi, Sir John Lawrence sent a strong British force commanded by John Nicholson. After a long siege of four months, the British recovered Delhi in September 1857 A.D. The Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar was captured, his two sons and a grandson were shot dead and he was sent on exile to Rangoon .
3- Kanpur At Kanpur the struggle for Independence was led by Nana Sahib Dondu Pant (The adopted son of Peshwa Baji Rao II). Nana Sahib, with the help of Tantia Tope, recaptured Kanpur in November, 1857 but not for a long time and British defeated them once again in a fierce war in December 1857. Nana Sahib fled towards Nepal, where he probably died, while Tantya Tope migrated to Kalpi.
4- Jhansi and Gwalior One of the most popular leaders of this revolt, Rani Laxmi Bai of Jhansi fought bravely against british troops in this war. Gen. Sir Huge Rose attacked Jhansi in March 1858 but the brave
Rani Laxmi Bai kept the British General struggling for a long time. She along with Tantia Tope fought many successful battles against the British. A fierce battle was fought between the British and the revolutionaries under Rani Laxmi Bai and Tantya Tope in June 1858. But the personal valor of Rani and Tantya Tope could not match the resources of the British. Tantya Tope was betrayed by the Gwalior Chief Man Singh and fell into the hands of the British. He was subsequently hanged on April 18, 1859.
5- Bihar In Bihar, the Revolt was led by Kunwar Singh, a zamindar of Jagdishpur. Though he was
eighty years old, he played a prominent part in the revolt. He fought the British in Bihar and then joined Nana Sahib’s forces and took part in various encounters with the English in Oudh and Central India. He died on April 27, 1858, leaving behind a glorious record of valour and bravery.
together as one unified effort. Due to the rebellion having no central leadership, it got limited to some parts of India. Rebels did not have enough weapons and finance whereas British people had advanced weapons and enough finance.
Reasons of its failure:
Impact of the revolt:
Some spurt centers of the revolt were- Kanpur, Lucknow, Aligarh, Agra, Arrah, Delhi, and Jhansi
In August 1850, the British Parliament passed an act for Indian governance.
Due to all these centers being far from each other, there was a communication gap between the leaders of different parts of India due to which it could not come

rigorously pursued the policy of divide and rule spoiling the social fabric of the nation forever. Total expense of the suppression of the Revolt was borne by the Indians that led to more exploitation. After completing 160 years of the first war of Indian Independence this year. We salute the brave heroes who gave their sweat, blood and lives to make our lives better today. And even though it may have taken about 90 more years of struggle to finally have a free India, this revolt was an important landmark where it all started.

Tesla’s
Autopilot with full self driving as promised this year?

Just year old news, which shook the automobile world when the CEO of Tesla Elon Musk announced that the “full self-driving” hardware, will come with all his company’s vehicles. Which means the Tesla drivers would be able to snooze in their cars by 2019, he added. Musk mentioned that a few months later, promising to demonstrate a fully autonomous, cross-country trip by the end of 2017 in a Tesla. Since then, the company has not come up with any updates in its flagship semiautonomous driving system, Autopilot, bothering some of their obsessed fans and leading to questions raised about Tesla’s ability to fulfil their promise on a self-driving car. Musk had admitted in an August WWW.WISHESH.COM | DECEMBER 2017
earnings call about the cross-country trip would delay. He spoke about it saying “It is certainly possible that I will have egg on my face on that front.” Also there hasn’t been any update on the Autopilot since nearly last five months. The Tesla owners say that the autopilot 2.0’s over-the-air software updates, since Musk’s announcement have been irregular and scattered. There used to be updates generally every three weeks for the first half of 2017 which included about the facility to use Autosteer at speeds up to 90mph while on the highway and 35 mph on local roads. Nearly five months since there hasn’t been any significant update on Autopilot and many other features promised from the previous version of
the “advanced driver assist system” (ADAS) which is still missing. Extra features like rainsensing wipers are yet to be added, but more operational functions are absent such as the capability to read speed limit symbols and distinguish between vehicles types on the road. Additional features which were promised by the
end of 2016 like automated lane changes on the highway, auto-summon, and better steering on tight roads were, have been rolled out yet. The date has been removed from its website since then by Tesla Musk presented video of a Tesla in his statement a year ago exiting a garage, driving through the town, and looking
for its own parking spot — all autonomously. Even though there was someone behind the wheel at the time of the demonstration, the suggestion was clear: “this was a car that will drive itself, and sooner than you think possible.” Still “Enhanced Autopilot,” as it was named, isn’t complete. Resulting to the fact that many fewer safety and accessibility features enabled DECEMBER 2017 | WWW.WISHESH.COM
AUTOMOBILES in the Tesla vehicles built since October 2016 as compared to the older models. Musk accepted much of it at the time of his announcement that “it will probably sometime next year” when the previous versions in functionality will equalize the Tesla cars with the newer hardware suite. Musk, early this year also tweeted that maximum features mentioned would be developing out soon, but after a few months, we still have many pending.
118
Looking at the dely in Autopilot updates, few owners of Tesla question whether the company can
WWW.WISHESH.COM | DECEMBER 2017
stand up to their promises of what was assured to be delivered ultimately: the “full self-driving”. Ian Jordan who is an electrical engineer from Seattle owning a Model S said “It just leaves you with no faith that they are anywhere on that path”. “Today they can’t reliably detect a speed limit sign, so it just seems like an enormous gap.” Jordan, an investor in Tesla, who spoke about his Model S said that “it would routinely freak out and dive for oncoming traffic” when Autopilot becomes disorganized by certain crossings in his neighborhood. “Don’t know what it is,” he added
saying “Every time.” Tesla owners can choose to turn on Autopilot irrespective of where they are driving which is very different to most of the other major driver assistance systems; Other ADAS for example Cadillac’s Super Cruise, is constrained use to divided highways. It would befit Tesla to encourage customers to use Autopilot as much as feasible in safe conditions, in order to collect the maximum volume of data. That’s possible because the company’s goals to offer “full self-driving” are dependent on its drivers making use of Autopilot all along. The company must collect a lot of information to prove to
customers (and regulators) that the technology is safe and trustworthy before Tesla can start driving autonomously. So, in order for Tesla to gather statistical data, its cars run Autopilot in “shadow mode” to show software’s false positives and false negatives. In the “shadow mode”, the car doesn’t take any action, but it records when it might have taken an action. Although, it casts a spotlight on the major transformation between Tesla and practically every other automaker and tech-companies dealing with autonomous driving, Tesla is in defiance with its competitors in the self-driving space by not accepting to include the “LIDAR sensors” under the supposition that the equipment will be too costly for private ownership. Musk also had mentioned formerly that LIDAR sensors “don’t make sense in a car context.” Rather, the cars rely on the 360-degree vision
with eight cameras, as well as 12 ultrasonic sensors and forward-facing radar.
resisted making the same leap
Theory made by most companies about the selfdriving cars will be shared and utilized in the restricted areas or the geofenced areas for instance the downtowns or college campuses. Tesla is banking on cheaper autonomous cars (and trustworthy enough) for people to own. But to get to that position, they need to assure people that Autopilot is a better, safer means to drive. As a extremely advanced type of adaptive cruise control, it has too many ongoing things. But looks like things aren’t going as planned as suggested by the internal and external forces.
A major reason of this struggle has apparently been the way Musk decide on promoting Autopilot. The choice to refer to Autopilot as a “full self-driving” technology — language that marks multiple presence on the company’s website, especially during the procedure of ordering a car — which was the spark for multiple withdrawals, including Sterling Anderson, as reported by the Journal, who was in charge of the Autopilot squad during last year’s announcement. Chris Lattner left his post of running software this June for Tesla’s Autopilot separation after just six months.
On the inside, Tesla has undergone a lot of upheaval as it relays to Autopilot. According to the Wall Street Journal, the company’s team of engineers functioning on Autopilot responded with disappointment to Musk’s declaration a year ago, as they were certain of Autopilot lacking the competence to deliver full self-driving. To add to this, CNN reported that Musk seemingly brushed aside certain apprehensions as negligible compared to Autopilot’s overall lifesaving prospective, but employees who operated on Autopilot
Federal regulators on the other hand were continuing to shift through the wreckage (both literal and digital) since the 2016 crash which killed the man who was driving a Tesla Model S despite the fact that he was using Autopilot. The National Traffic Safety Board in recent times determined that Autopilot contributed to the crash and suggested that all automakers, including Tesla must consider more thoughtful restrictions to where its semi-autonomous systems can be put to use and how they sell such products. Tesla claims that customer protection undergirds all its choices, and that it prioritizes features that would have the most immediate impact on that.
Other factors which add up are likely contributing to Tesla’s intermittent Autopilot updates. The firm is in the midst of 120 what Musk has entitled as “production hell” with the Model 3. Whether Tesla can deliver on its promise of a mass-market, battery-electric car, is what the customers and investors are viewing intently. And the results of Tesla’s decision in 2016 to separate from the supplier Mobileye is still under process. October 2016’s introduction of the second-generation Autopilot, Tesla removed Mobileye’s computer vision technology which was powered by its EyeQ3 chip. The company substituted that with “Tesla Vision” which is their own computer vision and powered by Nvidia’s Drive PX2 onboard computer.
WWW.WISHESH.COM | DECEMBER 2017
As commented by Sam Abuelsamid who is a senior research analyst at Navigant, Autopilot 2.0’s is “still missing a lot of the functionality of the original version that relied more heavily on Mobileye from their vision system,”, “And from everything that we’ve seen, it does not sound like they have caught up to where Mobileye was a year and a half ago.” These changes that can be fixed with over-the-air software updates as per the impression made by Tesla, and also an area where the company has confirmed to be more quick and willing to take risks than legacy OEMs — and highly rated feature by the customers. But as promised by Musk about the autonomous driving, particularly the Level 4 and 5, needs a very specific hardware suite such that it is safe and reliable. Lately, it was informed that Tesla silently developed a new hardware suite with additional computing power to aid achieving its goal of full automation, which would look as if contradicting Musk’s October 2016 vow that all vehicles would be shipped with “full self-driving capabilities.” Tesla claims that customer protection undergirds all its choices, and that it prioritizes features that would have the most immediate impact on that. Nevertheless, a spokesperson recognized that its Autopilot updates have been few and
far between, and that the company was working to rectify that. One of the spokesperson announced to The Verge “For our customers who opted to purchase our Enhanced Autopilot and Full Self-Driving packages, we’re working super hard on new features The Verge and rapid progress is definitely being made. As is the case with any new technology, validation of first-of-its-kind technology is subject to a high number of variables which can impact product readiness timelines significantly. While it’s taken longer than we originally expected to roll out all
Enhanced Autopilot features, the product already provides significant assistance to drivers, and this year our platform was re-engineered to facilitate improved data collection, mapping, and fleet learning – important foundational changes which we expect to enable more dramatic improvements for our customers over time. With safety at the core of everything we do and every decision we make, we will be rolling out advanced new features as soon as they’re validated, and we’re grateful for everyone’s patience.” But that attitude may not be enough which Tesla
expands to the mass market. Abuelsamid mentioned “The customers they’ve had up till this point are clearly within the early adopter group,”. He added “They are willing to cut Tesla much more slack than I think a typical customer would be, in terms of both functionality and quality... Tesla really needs to get all that sorted out if they’re going to become a mainstream brand.” Any comeback from customers and criticizers so far has been mild. Amid a soft luxury car market, Tesla’s sales of its Model S and Model X continue to grow, and Tesla continues
to climb the stock market. And regardless of the serious questions about the company’s capability to deliver the assured number of Model 3s, Tesla’s brand remains comparatively clean. Followers and supporters of the taboo-shattering firm seem to have assumed the fact that Musk’s can sometimes brag about his company’s ability to deliver. With this attitude it only makes the fans love him even more — he surely doesn’t care the buffoonish character he portrays from HBO’s Silicon Valley.

Vastu tips to keep in mind when buying or constructing a home: 1- Entrance of the home: If you are buying an apartment, the entrance of the block will be considered as the entrance. South or West entrance is not recommended for the afternoon infrared rays are harmful to health; entrance should be from north or north east. There should be enough open space left around the building.
2- Sunlight and cross ventilation: Proper natural light and ventilation holds great
importance in vastu, so make sure there is ample sunlight coming into the house and that the house has good cross ventilation. A North or East-facing flat with windows and balconies in either of these two directions is ideal. The morning sunlight brings positivity and is rich in ultraviolet rays. While afternoon infrared rays are harmful for health so having windows and entrance in South or west is not recommended. The windows on the south or south-western wall must be small in size with horizontal shading device to protect the interiors from the harmful rays of the Sun. According to vastu the house should not have a common wall with the neighboring house, as this creates mixed energies, so open space should be left on all four sides of the building. Since sunrays are not that harmful in North and East, more open space should be left towards North and East side of the Building as compared to south and west sides.
3- Kitchen: You should avoid buying a flat which has a kitchen in the North-East. Since this part of the building welcomes the morning sun so it is appropriate for a living room or a meditation room. Southeast corner is the ideal place for the kitchen. DECEMBER 2017 | WWW.WISHESH.COM

Always buy a new house or successful house. A new home does not have a history, making these the optimal choice. 4- Circulation inside the apartment and the complex: 126
According to vastu, center of the apartment must be light, so rooms, kitchen or toilets must not be placed in the centre. This will make the apartment look spacious and also helps in having good ventilation. Preferably a living room must be placed in centre from where every room is accessible.
5- Circulation of the multistoried building: There should be a well designed core to the apartment building and lift must be provided adjacent to the staircase to make the circulation easy. Moreover, it is better to have staircase and lift in the south-west WWW.WISHESH.COM | DECEMBER 2017
corner of the apartment building because they act as the buffer zones and help in keeping the hot sun rays away from the building’s interiors.
6- Water storage tank: Early morning sun rays are rich with ultraviolet rays which help in purifying the water. So a water tank must be placed in the north-eastern corner of the roof in a multi-story building. Preferably a plastic water tank should not be used, however, if it is plastic, it should be of some dark color like black, blue etc. to facilitate sun rays absorption.
7- Toilets and bathrooms: Toilets and bathrooms in each flat must be built in the south-west corner or in south direction. Wind direction in India all the year round is north-east to south-west. If a toilet is placed in north east the wind will enter the room passing through the toilet. This will contaminate the air in the rooms.
8- Kid’s room: According to vastu the ideal place for the kid’s room is North- East or North West. Sun is never in the north so it is best to have a kid’s room window on the north wall. This
will bring ample natural light and no harmful sun rays to the kid’s room.
9- Center of the apartment: As per Vastu, there should be light in the center of the apartment, so closed spaces like kitchen and toilets should not be placed here. The center is an ideal place for a living room.
10- Staircase: It is not advisable to build the staircase in the North-East, as this will block the morning rays of the sun. External staircase should ideally be placed in the South-west corner. Internal staircase should not be placed in the center because it would not only mar the beauty of the living room but also make it look congested
11- Vastu for the entire block or community: The garden, play areas and other open spaces must be in the northern or eastern side of the block, and walls of the apartments should not be black, dark blue or red as dark colors absorb heat thereby increasing the temperature inside the apartment. The building block in the southwest direction must be the tallest among all the building blocks; this will help in protecting the other blocks from the harmful rays of the setting sun. The garden, play
areas and the open spaces must be in the northern or eastern side of the block. Walls of the apartments should not be black, dark blue or red as dark colors absorbs sun rays and increases the internal temperature of the apartment. Generator, electric switchboards, transformer etc. should be installed outside the apartments in south-eastern corner. It is better to have the staircase and lift in the southwest corner of the apartment building. This is because they act as the buffer zones and help in keeping the hot sun rays away from the building’s interiors.
Vastu mistakes to avoid when buying a new home: Always buy a new house or successful house. A new home does not have a history, making these the optimal choice. However, if you are looking at a pre-owned home, buy one from someone who is moving into a bigger house, got a grand success and is moving to a royal area. Houses that are for sale from a divorcee, a bankrupt, or where there is a serious illness are not the best choice. To purchase a home such as this can mean that you are buying those problems too. How so? The house might be the problem. Or, there might be a landscape which may causing the difficulty. Its best to avoid these kinds of
premises. When moving into a house someone else has lived in before (as opposed to a new house) it is important to clear the energies of the previous occupant. You can do this by cleaning, painting and replacing carpets. You can have the energies cleared professionally. This means you interrupt the energy flow, and will not get stuck with any bad luck the previous owners had.
Check the mistakes to avoid below: 1- Irregular shape of the property creates missing corner and missing direction. Try to buy a regular-shaped home or plot. Square or rectangle shaped lots are especially good.
2- The inside story. Make sure bedrooms are not over a kitchen. Also be sure there are no bathrooms over a dining area or kitchen. This can cause illness in the house. Internal layout of the house like kitchen placement, seating & bed arrangements, location of the toilets etc. should be placed under the guidance of Vastu expert. 3- Get support. It’s best for land to either be level or have a rise at the south west of the house. If the house has a tall building or a hill at south or west, it is a most ideal location according to Vastu shastra. 4- If the house faces open land or has a wide, open area in north or east, then it is extremely auspicious. This brings unlimited opportunities DECEMBER 2017 | WWW.WISHESH.COM

This can be corrected with the pyramids or Plants. 7- Avoid Dark colors for home, as they cause low mood and depression 128

Therefore 138 on this day, Ashta Nayikas is worshipped in the form of Durga. The Ashtami puja begins with the Mahasnan which is followed by the Shodashopachar Puja. In this puja, nine earthen pots are placed in the center and worshipped. The ritual is said to invoke the nine forms of Durga. Maha Ashtami holds immense significance for the five days of Durga Puja. Devotees observe fast and perform puja wearing new clothes early in the morning. Many puja pandals serve special ‘Ashtami Bhog’. Khichdi, papad, payesh, chutney and roshogolla etc are served as bhog to the goddess. Many Indian communities WWW.WISHESH.COM | DECEMBER 2017
all across US organized their cultural and traditional events along with Pujan at Hindu temples.
4- Bathukamma: The Telangana streets resplendent with the decorated Bathukamma is no secret, but thousands of miles away parks and convention halls in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia and the Gulf reflected a similar scenario and sentiment. The festival of flowers that was just being confined to villages and quite fast disappearing from the cities all these years now also caught on with the Telugus in the foreign land thanks to the mass cultural revival. In fact, the Telangana families abroad are far more enthusiastic given their time and space constraints. Various organisations working for revival and sustenance of Telangana culture and festivals in different parts of the world are competing with each other to celebrate the festival
inviting Ministers and politicians of various parties and also adding glamour to it ensuring the participation of film and television stars. Religious fervour and gaiety marked the Bathukamma Sambaralu all across the US. All these places saw droves of young and middle-aged women, decked up traditionally arriving with their flamboyant flower stacks that embodied Goddess Maha Gowri, who is revered as life-giver and symbolise the womanhood going by Telangana folklore.
