Russian Politician Arkady Dvorkovich Crowned World Chess Head The former Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Arkady Dvorkovich is crowned as the new King of FIDE or World Chess Federation. The 46-year-old Dvorkovich is elected as the new president with a clear-cut majority over his rival and incumbent Deputy President Georgis Makropoulos, at the 89th FIDE Congress held at Batumi in Georgia. “Dvorkovich got 103 votes while Makropoulos polled 78 votes,” Bharat Singh Chauhan, General Secretary, All India Chess Federation (AICF) told IANS over the phone from Georgia. The election was not without some fortuitous events. The other contender Nigel Short, British Grand Master, who had said that the FIDE Presidential poll is a three-horse race, proclaimed his withdrawal from the contest in favor of Dvorkovich during his speech. With Dvorkovich’s victory, the long incumbency of Makropoulos at FIDE comes to the conclusion. India’s D.V.Sundar, Vice President, AICF and FIDE was part of
Makropoulos team for the position of General Secretary. “While it is sad that Sundar’s team lost out, the AICF will continue to work with FIDE for the growth and betterment of chess,” Chauhan said. He said Short’s last-minute withdrawal was not a surprise. Early last month, Short had tweeted after meeting Dvorkovich: “United in our belief that FIDE should support federations, and not federations support FIDE. United in our determination to bring transparency and the rule of law, and to root out cronyism and corruption.” Queried about whether the tweet indicates a pact between the two, Short had told IANS: “We have a common goal. In particular, we are determined to root out Georgios Makropoulos team from FIDE. We are united for the greater good of chess. I believe Makropoulos team will be thrown out.” Dvorkovich, when questioned about the electoral understanding with Short, told IANS earlier: “Nigel is a great chess professional who shall play an important role in the promotion of chess in the future.”

India's MeeToo: Women Journalists, Writers Name Sexual Predators Social media is spread across sexual assault accusations as the #MeeToo movement took aim at prominent journalists, editors, writers, and a comedian. Scores of women, including galore journalists, came out this week with accounts of sexual harassment from colleagues and editors, accusing them of improper remarks, unwanted touches, demands for sexual activity, and the airing of pornography. Umpteen personal tales of guilt and anger, which were buried under years of silence, came forth after journalist Sandhya Menon recounted sexual harassment she allegedly faced from two senior editors, KR Sreenivas and Gautam Adhikari. - Sandhya Menon (@TheRestlessQuil) October 5, 2018
Since I’m calling them out. Let me tell you about @KRSreenivas who is currently resident editor @toi Hyderabad (I think) who offered to drop me back after a day’s work. We were about to launch Bangalore mirror back in 2008 and I had just moved to this city.
And finally, one more calling out and I’m done.
Gautam Adhikari who was the editor in chief of DNA Bombay. His exec assistant and I were think friends and we’d go out a lot. Once he told her you girls are always going out, I’m new to the city show me some sights. Sonora Jha, who currently teaches journalism at Seattle University in the United States, said she was too assaulted by Adhikari earlier in 1995. “Two months after I had my baby, Adhikari, then the executive editor of the Times of India, visited our Bangalore office. He said I should come to his hotel room to discuss flexible work hours if I would like that,” Jha told Al Jazeera. “After I got there, he told me to relax, put my feet up, and lie down. I refused. He grabbed my face and forced a kiss on me, pushing his tongue into my mouth, trying to push me on his bed. I pushed him away and rushed out of the door,” she said. Jha said as a 27-year-old then, she felt “shaken and uncertain of future”, but didn’t want to be known as “that woman who accused the TOI boss”. With a baby to look after, she decided not to pursue the case lawfully.

Multiple Accusations -Mahima Kukreja (@AGirlOfHerWords) October 4, 2018
I want everyone to know @Wootsaw is a piece of shit. He sent me a dick pic, was creepy, then cried saying I’ll ruin his career if I tell others. I told two of the most influential men in comedy in India. Nothing happened. Let me tell you what else he has done with others. Subsequently, AIB, a prominent stand-up comedy group, apologized in an online statement for not taking action against Utsav, their former employee. - Utsav (@Wootsaw) October 5, 2018
It’s a little too late now but I am sorry. I really am. The past 24 hours were a crucible. I faced a very scary personal truth. I can’t think of myself as a victim anymore. Please tell me what to do now. How to make things right? I don’t want anyone to be hurt anymore. Numerous other senior journalists and writers, including KR Sreenivas, Kiran Nagarkar, and CP Surendran, were involved in separate accusations of sexual misconduct. An unnamed woman said famous
photographer Pablo Bartholomew harassed her when she met him for an interview as a young reporter. When she refused his sexual advances, Bartholomew allegedly called her editor to say he did not have faith in her “ability to write an article about his work”. A principal correspondent at the Business Standard, Mayank Jain, was named as “sexual predator” by reporter Anoo Bhuyan. An akin incident was recounted by another journalist with Jain where he repeatedly suggested “taking a room”. The allegations against potent editors like Adhikari and Sreenivas caused other women to impeach both of sexual abuse and forcible sexual advances. While Sreenivas told Al Jazeera an internal committee of the Times Group will investigate the charges and he “will submit to the investigation”, he refused to answer further questions. Adhikari told Al Jazeera he “cannot recall the incidents from a long time ago that has been alleged”. “If I have ever made a colleague uncomfortable in any manner, I would readily apologize but I did not sexually harass anyone,” said Adhikari.
Most women said they never reported their harassment, fearful of the impact on their careers. This suggests that the true scale of the problem is far greater than what is being reported. A former editor at Huffington Post was named among one of the sexual harassers by several women, asking women for nude pictures.
#MeeToo Movement The worldwide #MeToo movement was prompted by sexual wrongdoing and rape accusations by scores of women against Hollywood power baron Harvey Weinstein.

INDIAN DIASPORA FINE ART
Bandhani 20
Bandhani is the tying of cloth with thread and then dying. It is the simplest and perhaps the oldest form of creating patterns on a plain piece of cloth. It is also the oldest forms of decorated textiles. Bandhani is a popular type of tie and dye method in India. The word “Bandhani” comes from the Hindi word “Bandhan” which means tying. Bandhani work is mostly done in the states of Rajasthan and Gujarat. Tie and dye is among the simplest and the oldest form of textile dyeing. Tie-dye actually is a modern term to describe a set of ancient resist-dyeing techniques. The process consists of folding, twisting, or crumpling of fabric followed by application of dye. The manipulations of the fabric before the dye is applied are called resists, as they prevent the dye from coloring the fabric. Different types of tie and dyes have been practiced in India, Japan, and Africa for centuries. The dyes are mainly vegetable dyes extracted mainly from various parts of plants such as flowers, stem, leaves etc. Tiedye is characterized by the use of bold patterns and bright primary colors such WWW.WISHESH.NET | OCTOBER 2018
as yellow, red, green, orange etc. In India, tie and dye technique is used in many variations on a wide range of fabrics, from cotton to silk. The Indian tie & dye can be classified into the following types: The fabric is tied and dyed, like the Bandhani & Lehriya The wrap is tied and dyed, like that in lkat

What is Bandhani?

Both the wrap and weft are tied and dyed like that in Double lkat or Patola Bandhani is a traditional and most popular technique of tie and dye. As the name suggests, the technique of Tie and Dye involves two stages: tying sections of a length of cloth (silk or cotton) and then dunking it into vats of color with the tied sections acquiring a different hue than the non tied ones and forming amazing patterns. The rainbowtinged turbans of the Rajputs and the odhnis of their women are shaded by this method of resist dyeing. The term “Bandhani derives its name from the Hindi word Bandhan which means tying up. Bandhani is an ancient art practised by people mainly of Rajasthan and Gujarat. Jaipur, Udaipur, Bikaner,Ajmer and Jamnagar are among the important centers producing odhnis, saris and turbans in Bandhani. The wide variety was evolved over the centuries because of its close links with the religious and social customs of different people. Bandhani work involves tying and dyeing of pieces of cotton or silk cloth. The main colors used in Bandhani are yellow, red, green and black. Bandhani work, after the processing is over, results into a variety of symbols including, WWW.WISHESH.NET | OCTOBER 2018
dots, squares, waves and strips. The main colors used in Bandhani are natural. In fact all colors in Bandhani are dark, Rajasthan is one of the most important centers of the tie and dye textile. Each area, each caste and each tribe has its special designs. Tying of the border is a special process known as sevo bandhavo. The border is tied according to the desired pattern by passing the thread from one end to the
other in loose stitch so as to bring the entire portion together by pulling the thread from one end. The border portion is then covered up. Some sarees have broad matching and contrasting borders. The same applies also to the pallus.
cottons of India.
History & Socio-Cultural Aspect
The Bandhani technique was taken to Gujarat in the 16th century by communities of craftsmen who migrated from Sind. The Khatri community of textile craftsmen, both Hindus and Muslims, have been producing Bandhani since the 17th century.
The earliest evidence of Bandhani dates back to Indus Valley Civilization around 4000 B.C. The earliest physical example of this craft is in the 6th century paintings depicting the life of Buddha on the wall of Ajanta caves. The art also finds its mentions in the books written during the time of Alexander the Great about the beautiful printed
Bandhani also has a socioreligious significance. The colors and patterns of the fabric worn by the person indicates their status and community. While red color fabric represents a bride or recently married girl, a yellow background suggests a lady has become a mother recently. In Rajasthan, men tye turbans with different patterns of OCTOBER 2018 | WWW.WISHESH.NET

Technique The art of Bandhani is a highly skilled process. It is the women and girls who always carry out this delicate art as it is a skill very rarely exhibited by men. Knots are tied in two ways. One option requires raising the folds of the material with the pointed nails of the finger to create a little bunch around which thread may be tied. The second option requires use of filler materials, which are impregnated
within the knots. Women can tie up to 700 knots in a single day. It’s relatively easier tying knots in silk or cotton for the woollen knots have to be reaffirmed by biting them with the teeth. A single stole can have 4000 to 5000 knots, known as ‘Bheendi’ in the local language. These knots form a design once the cloth is opened after dyeing in bright colors. Traditionally, the final products can be classified into ‘Khombhi’, ‘Ghar Chola’, ‘Chandrakhani’, ‘Shikari’, ‘Chowkidaar’, ‘Ambadaal’ etc
The Making of a Bandhani Saree 24
Dyeing is accomplished by the tie-resist method where the patterns are made up of innumerable dots and weaves respectively. Usually men do the dyeing while women do the tying, which is most painstaking with each dot being as tiny as a pin-head. The cloth is first washed and bleached to prepare it for absorbing the dyes. After this, it is then sent to the Bandhani, the women who do the tying, lift small portions of the fabric and tightly tie a thread around it. The more minuscule the raised Bandhani – tied textile fabric, the finer the Bandhani. The tied textile is then dipped WWW.WISHESH.NET | OCTOBER 2018
in a light color first while the tied areas retain the original ground color. If a second dye is required, the areas to be retained in the first dye are tied for resist and the cloth dipped in a darker dye. This process is repeated, if several colors are to be combined. Laheria refers to the wavy pattern of a fabric processed in the tie dye technique. The material is rolled diagonally and certain portions resisted by lightly binding threads at a short distance from one another before the cloth is dyed. If the distance is shorter, the skill required in preventing one color from
spilling into the other. The process of dyeing is repeated until the requisite number of color is obtained. For a checkered pattern the fabric is opened and diagonally rolled again from the opposite corners, the rest of the process remaining the same. When oil of sunflower, castor or linseed is heated over fire for more than 12 hours and cast into water, a thick residue known as roghan is produced. The printing of residue on cloth with colored powder, gold or silver dust is known as khari or tinsel work.
Colors Used and Care The main colors used in Bandhani are yellow, green, red, pink, and black. The colors commonly used signify different things like – red, a symbol of marriage, saffron, a color worn by yogi who has renounced the world, yellow, which stands for spring and black and maroon, used for mourning. Bandhani material is sold folded and with the knots tied. One has to pull the folds apart for the knots to open. The payment is made according to the number of dots in the pattern. An intricate design in a sari would have approximately 75000
dots. What is essential in Bandhani is the minute and skillful manipulation of the fingers for tying, extensive knowledge of color schemes and skill in dyeing materials. It takes several years for a craftsman to perfect his skill. Bandhani saris and dupattas are available at most shops all over India but to get the authentic material, it is advisable to buy it from Rajasthan or Gujarat or their emporiums outlets in major cities around India. Tie and dye cloth is never too expensive but be warned that the colors always run. So if you’ve bought silk, it’s safer to get it dry-cleaned.
Design Motifs Very elaborate motifs are made, in tie and dye work. These include flowers, creepers, bells and Jalas. Knots are placed in clusters each with a different names such as
Beldaar – like a vine Boond – a small dot with a dark center Chaubasi – in groups of four
Ekdali – a dot Jaaldar – like a web Kodi – tear or drop shaped Laddu Jalebi – the swirling Satbandi – in groups of seven Shikargah – mountain‐like Tikunthi – circles and squares appear in a group of three OCTOBER 2018 | WWW.WISHESH.NET

Major Centers Of Tie And Dye in India The centers of tie and dye fabrics, especially in Gujarat are Jamnagar in Saurashtra (the water in this area brings out the brightest red while dying), and Ahmedabad. waves. These are harmoniously arranged diagonal stripes, which were originally, dyed in the auspicious colors of yellow and red. Pochampalli is also one of the three main traditional yarndyeing centers in the country. The process of making Bandhani (tie and dye) varies in Gujarat and Rajasthan. Even the patterns, designs and craftsmanship
vary in both the regions. The craftsmen from Rajasthan are easily recognized because they grow a nail on their little finger to facilitate the lifting of cloth for tying or wear a small metal ring with a point. The Gujarati craftsmen prefer to work without these aids. The flow is much better when one works with one’s bare hands as it assures
no damage to the cloth. The dyeing and printing of textiles has become a highly developed craft in Gujarat. Bandhani, a form of tie-resist dyeing and patola are two outstanding examples of the Indian dyer’s art.

India is a country of not just a rich cultural heritage but also some traditions and festivals that make our nation so beautiful. The UNESCO says that “The importance of intangible cultural heritage is not the cultural manifestation itself but rather the wealth of knowledge and skills that is transmitted through it from one generation to the next. The social and economic value of this transmission of knowledge is relevant for minority groups and for mainstream social groups within a State, and is as important for developing States as for developed one” In the year 2017, Kumbh WWW.WISHESH.NET | OCTOBER 2018

The Significance of
Namastay from Indian Culture,
practised by Hindu’s Namaste is an Indian gesture of greeting one another. Wherever they are, when Hindus meet people, they know or strangers with whom they want to initiate a conversation, “namaste” is the customary courtesy greeting. It is often used as a salutation to end an encounter as well. Namaste is not a superficial gesture or a mere word, it is a way of showing respect and that you are equal to one another. It is used with all people one meets, from young and old to friends and strangers Though it has its origins in India, Namaste is now known and used throughout the world. Much of this has been due to its use in yoga. Students will often bow in respect to their teacher and say “Namaste” at the end of a class. In Japan, the gesture is “Gassho” and used in similar fashion, typically in prayer and healing practice. Because of its global
usage, Namaste has many interpretations. In general, the word tends to be defined as some derivation of, “The divine in me bows to the divine in you.” This spiritual connection comes from its Indian roots.
Namaste According to the Scriptures Namaste—and its common variants namaskar, namaskaara, and namaskaram—is one of the various forms of formal traditional greeting mentioned in the Vedas. Although this is normally understood to mean prostration, it actually is
the means of paying homage or showing respect to one another. This is the practice today when we greet each other.
The Meaning of Namaste Namaste is derived from Sanskrit word “namah + te = namaste”. Namah means ‘bow’, ‘obeisance’, ‘reverential salutation’ or ‘adoration’ and te means ‘to you’ (dative case of ‘you’). It means -- I bow to you -- my greetings, salutations or prostration to you. Namaha can also be literally interpreted as ‘na ma’ (not mine). OCTOBER 2018 | WWW.WISHESH.NET
INDIAN DIASPORA CULTURE It has a spiritual significance of negating or reducing one’s ego in the presence of another. In Sanskrit, the word is namah (to bow) and te (you), meaning “I bow to you.” In, other words, “greetings, salutations, or prostration to
you.” The word namaha can also be literally interpreted as “na ma” (not mine). It has a spiritual significance of negating or reducing one’s ego in the presence of another. The real meeting between people is the meeting of their minds. When we greet another, we do so with namaste, which means, “may our minds meet,” indicated by the folded palms placed before the chest. The bowing down of the head is a gracious form of extending friendship in love and humility. In Kannada, the same greeting is Namaskara and Namaskaragalu; in Tamil, Kumpiṭu; in elugu, Dandamu, Dandaalu, Namaskaralu and Pranamamu; in Bengali, Nōmōshkar and Prōnäm; and in Assamese, Nômôskar.
36
How and Why to Use “Namaste” Namaste is more than a word we say, it has its own hand gesture or mudra. To use it properly:
* Bend your arms upwards
at the elbow and face the two palms of your hands.
* Place the two palms together and in front of your chest.
WWW.WISHESH.NET | OCTOBER 2018
* Utter the word namaste
and bow your head slightly toward the tips of the fingers. Namaste can be a casual or formal greeting, a cultural convention, or an act of worship. However, there is much more to it than meets the eye. This simple gesture is related to the brow chakra, which is often referred to as the third eye or mind center. Meeting another person, no matter how casual, is really a meeting of the minds. When we greet one another with Namaste, it means, “may our minds meet. The bowing down of the head is a gracious form of extending friendship in love, respect, and humility. Indians greet each other with namaste. The two palms are placed together in front of the chest and the head bows whilst saying the word namaste. This greeting is for
all -- people younger than us, of our own age, those older than us, friends and even strangers. There are five forms of formal traditional greeting enjoined in the shastras or scriptures of which namaskaram is one. This is understood as prostration but it actually refers to paying homage as we do today when we greet each other with a namaste. Folding hands together with a smile to greet, Namaste is a common cultural practice in India. Namaste or Namaskar or Namaskaram is a common verbal salutation in India. It is a customary greeting when one meets or takes leave of others. While saying Namaste, one commonly does this by slight bow made with hands pressed together, palms touching and fingers pointed upwards, infront of the chest. It can also be done without
words and carries the same meaning. Each palm represents the separate individuality. Each palm supports the five fingers. Similarly, each personality has five sheaths called the five kosas. The five different parts of the personality are called pancakosas, five sheaths.
They are: 1- annamayakosa food sheath, 2- pranamayakosa vital-air sheath
3- manomayakosa mental sheath,
4- vijnanamayakosa intellectual sheath and
5- anandamayakosa bliss sheath.
OCTOBER 2018 | WWW.WISHESH.NET
INDIAN DIASPORA CULTURE These five sheaths are supported by the Atman, the supreme Self which is the eternal Reality. The five sheaths are different from individual to individual but the Reality that supports them all is one and the same in all individualities. This truth is declared when the Hindus greet each other with namaskara. The two palms joined together as one indicates that the Reality or Atman in both is one and the same. To this unifying Infinite Atman the Hindus bows in the reverence when he does namaskara.
38
The Spiritual Significance of “Namaste” The reason we use Namaste has a deeper spiritual significance as well. It recognizes the belief that the life force, the divinity, the Self, or the God in me is the same in all. Acknowledging this oneness and equality with the meeting of the palms, we honor the god in the person we meet. The spiritual meaning is even deeper. The life force, the divinity, the Self or the Lord in me is the same in all. Recognising this oneness with the meeting of the palms, we salute with head bowed WWW.WISHESH.NET | OCTOBER 2018
the Divinity in the person we meet. That is why sometimes, we close our eyes as we do namaste to a revered person or the Lord - as if to look within. The gesture is often accompanied by words like “Ram Ram”, “Jai Shri Krishna”, “Namo Narayana”, “Jai Siya Ram”, “Om Shanthi” etc. - indicating the recognition of this divinity. When we know this significance, our greeting does not remain just a superficial gesture or word but paves the way for a deeper communion with another in an atmosphere of love and respect. Namaste is also a friendly greeting in written communication. When the hand position is higher, it usually means reverence and / or worship. The expression with hands placed on top of one’s head is usually the sign of utmost reverence or respect. The gesture Namaste represents and acknowledges the belief that there is a Divine spark within each of us. Hence, Namaste means, ‘I bow to you’ or ‘the divine within me greets the divine in you’. The gesture is widely used throughout Asia and beyond. It appears in c.4000 years ago on the clay seals of the
Indus Valley Civilization. There are different ways of doing namaste or greeting each other in other langues prevalent in India.
1- Telugu In Telugu, the gesture is known as Namaskaramulu or simply Namaskaram.
2- Tamil In Tamil, it is known as kumbidu, which is composed of kumbu meaning ‘to cup hands’ and idu, ‘to do’. Vanakkam, in Tamil too, means the same.
3- Kannada In Kannada, the gesture is known as Namaskara.
4- Japan In Japan, the Namaste hand gesture is used in prayer and healing sessions and is called Gassho.
5- Sri Lanka Namaste is also in vogue in Sri Lanka and Nepalese cultures.
6- Sikhs Sikhs also fold their hand as in Namaste, but their
greeting is Sat Sri Akal. During prayers, Hindus not only do Namaste, they also bow and close their eyes, in effect to look into the inner spirit. This physical gesture is sometimes accompanied by names of gods such as Ram Ram, Jai Shri Krishna, Namo Narayana, or Jai Siya Ram. It may also be used with Om Shanti, a common refrain in Hindu chants. Namaste is also quite common when two devout Hindus meet. It indicates the recognition of the divinity within ourselves and extends a warm welcome to each other.
Difference Between
“Namaskar” or Namastay and “Pranama” Pranama (Sanskrit ‘Pra’ and ‘Anama’) is a respectful salutation among Hindus. It literally means “bowing forward” in reverence for a deity or an elder.
Namaskar is one of the six types of Pranamas: 1- Ashtanga (Ashta=eight; Anga=body parts): Touching the ground with knees, belly, chest, hands, elbows, chin, nose, and temple.
2- Shastanga (Shashta=six; Anga=body
parts): Touching the ground with toes, knees, hands, chin, nose, and temple.
3- Panchanga (Pancha=five; Anga=body parts): Touching the ground with knees, chest, chin, temple, and forehead.
4- Dandavat (Dand=stick): Bowing the forehead down and touching the ground.
5- Abhinandana (Congratulations to you): Bending forward with folded hands touching the chest.
6- Namaskar (Bowing to you). The same as doing a Namaste with folded hands and touching the forehead. OCTOBER 2018 | WWW.WISHESH.NET

Study Shows Telugu is U.S.’s Fastest Growing Foreign Language
The number of native Telugu speakers is growing like no other in the United States, and a study by the Center for Immigration Studies prove this to be literal. Amid a period of 2010 and 2017, Telugu speakers in the U.S. surged 86 percent, which was the highest leap among the most widely spoken foreign languages in the country, among those that had more than 400,000 people speaking it. The Telugu language is native to the southern Indian states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. WWW.WISHESH.NET | OCTOBER 2018
Rise of Telugu
Though there are galore Indian-Americans who marked as achievers, there is a dark side too.
Earlier in 2000, the U.S. was home to just 87,543 Telugu speakers. By 2010, it elevated to 222,977.
From hate crimes to robbery attempts, a heap of Telugu workers has been shot dead in the U.S. in various incidents. On the other hand, assimilation attempts are likewise prevailing.
At present, there are 415,414 Telugu speakers, according to the latest figures which were found by CIS when looking at Census Bureau population data as of July 01, 2017. Taking into consideration the monolithic representation of the south Indian diaspora in the technology and engineering spaces, the info of Telugu’s increased adoption in the U.S. is not astonishing. Telangana’s capital Hyderabad is believed to send the largest number of engineers to abroad from India. Between 2008 and 2012, sent more than 26,000 students, according to a report.
In the aspect of the U.S. becoming an abode for Indian immigrants progressively, Telugu is only one of the many languages from the country gaining popularity.
Other Indian languages Other Indian language speakers, such as Bengali and Tamil have smaller populations of about 350,000 and 280,000 respectively, yet there were still among the fastest-growing ones. Bengali speakers logged a 57 percent

Though Telugu might have grown at a higher pace, Hindi proceeds to remain the most widely spoken Indian language in the U.S. Although, at 863,000, it is dwarfed by the 41 million speakers of Spanish. In outright numbers, people speaking Hindi at home increased the third-most between 2010 and 2017, after Chinese and Arabic.
CIS said, overall, 21.8 percent of the U.S. population speaks a foreign language at home. In the country’s five largest cities, this share goes up abruptly to nearly half of the residents. India, ironically, is abode to about four times more English speakers than the U.S.

T RUMP AD MI N I STR ATI ON SEEKS TO DENY GR E E N CAR D S FOR IMMIGRANTS
ON PUBLIC AID
The Trump administration has proposed rules that could deny green cards to immigrants if they use food stamps, Medicaid, housing vouchers and additional forms of public assistance. Federal law already requires those seeking green cards and to prove they will not be a burden - or “public charge” - but the new rules detail a broad range of programs that could disqualify them. The Department of Homeland Security WWW.WISHESH.NET | OCTOBER 2018
said current and past receipt of certain public benefits above thresholds would be considered “a heavily weighed negative factor” in granting green cards as well as temporary stays. The proposal “will clearly define long-standing
law to ensure that those seeking to enter and remain in the United States either temporarily or permanently can support themselves financially and will not be reliant on public benefits,” the department said. Coming less than seven weeks before midterm elections, the statement could aid galvanize voters who have supported or
opposed Trump’s broad crackdown on legal and illegal immigration. Immigrant advocacy groups said people may avoid or withdraw from public aid programs even at the risk of losing shelter and suffering deteriorating health because they worry they will be denied visas.
“Inhumane attack”: Hincapie Marielena Hincapie, an executive director of the National Immigration Law Center, said the proposal was “an inhumane attack on the health and wellbeing of so many families and communities across the country.” “How you contribute to your community - and not what you
look like or the contents of your wallet - should be what matters most,” she said. “This proposed rule does the opposite and makes clear that the Trump administration continues to prioritize money over family unity by ensuring that only the wealthiest can afford to build a future in this
country.” Possibly barring benefits comprise Medicare Part D prescription drugs, Medicaid with some exclusions for emergency services and disability services related to food stamps, education, and Section 8 housing vouchers.

Kamala Harris Urge
Americans to Stand United Against Racism The first Indian-origin United States Senator Kamala Harris, pointing the rise in racism and hate crimes against South Asian Americans since the November 2016 election of President Donald Trump has called on Americans to stand united and speak the truth to deal with these issues. Harris made a strong call to Americans to stay united and fight collectively at a time when there are powerful voices that are “sowing hate and division among us.” WWW.WISHESH.NET | OCTOBER 2018
Referring to the white nationalist rally earlier this year that turned fatal in Charlottesville, Virginia, Harris said, “Let’s speak truth if Charlottesville didn’t make it clear, if the statistics that we
are familiar with don’t make it clear (that) racism, sexism, homophobia, anti-semitism are real in this country, let’s speak that truth so that we can deal with it.”
She said there is a need to speak the truth that “right now in the U.S., crimes against South Asian Americans since the election in the November of 2016 have increased by 45 percent. Let’s speak that truth so we can deal with it.” She said that African Americans are still the number one target for hate crimes in the U.S. She said Americans in a collective voice, have to speak the truth that splitting children from the arms of their parents is not about border security and that education is a human right that is a critical path to success.
More than USD 3.6 million were raised for the organization’s various education programs during the Pratham Gala, attended by over 600 prominent business and community leaders. Pratham Chief Executive Officer Rukmini Banerji described the organization’s plans to bring communities across India together through its Hamara Gaon (our village) initiative. From California to the beaches in Chennai...to the hospital in Chandigarh...to the work we do...we genuinely are
connected, she said. If you don’t have a community which is beefed-up, it will be really hard to build longterm foundations of both equity and productivity. Pratham evolves practical solutions to address gaps in the education system and works in collaboration with India’s governments, educators, communities, and industry to increase learning results and influence education policy.
“This is our collective fight, all of us as Americans have a stake in this fight and in the outcome. We are all in this together. I believe this is a collective fight when we know that one in five IndianAmericans has experienced discrimination in the workplace, she said. “Years from now, when our children and grandchildren ask us where were you at that inflection moment in history, our answer will be what we did to participate, to give back, give forward, to bring lightness where there may be darkness, she said. Padma Lakshmi Pens Traumatic Sexual Assault When 16 A prominent Indian-American television personality, author, actor, and model Padma Lakshmi alleged she had been sexually assaulted and raped at the age of 16. Lakshmi wrote an Op-Ed for The New York Times in reference to the sexual assault allegations against the Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh that allegedly went unreported for decades. The Top Chef, an American TV series host, in an OpEd, mentioned that she was WWW.WISHESH.NET | OCTOBER 2018
assaulted at the age of 7 for the first time. Recounting the incident, Lakshmi said that she dated a 23-year-old “charming and handsome” college student when she was 16, who would “flirt” with her in Los Angeles at her part-time retail job at a mall. But then just a few
months into the relationship, Lakshmi said that he sexually assaulted her while she was asleep. “When we went out, he would park the car and come in and sit on our couch and talk to my mother,” she recalled in the piece. “He never brought me home late on a school night. We were intimate to a point,
but he knew that I was a virgin and that I was unsure of when I would be ready to have sex.” On New year’s eve three decades ago, Lakshmi said that after a night out with her boyfriend, she fell asleep at his apartment. “The next thing I remember is waking up to a very sharp stabbing pain like a knife blade between my legs. He was on top of me,” the star wrote. “I asked, ‘What are you doing?’ He said, ‘It will only hurt for a while.’”
Oblivious of what date rape intended at that stage, Lakshmi said she was unsure of whether the incident classified as rape or sex, but continued to tell her future boyfriends that she was a virgin. “Emotionally, I still was,” she noted. Lakshmi further elucidated in what way, when she was 7 years old, she was sent to India for a year to live with her grandparents after she told her mother and stepfather that a relative had touched her improperly and
put her hand on his penis. “The lesson was: If you speak up, you will be cast out,” the star said. Lakshmi clarified the reason for coming out with this story now. “I have nothing to gain by talking about this. But we all have a lot to lose if we put a time limit on telling the truth about sexual assault and if we hold on to the codes of silence that, for generations, have allowed men to hurt women with impunity,” she concluded.

India Remains on White House Major List on Drug Trade The United States President Donald Trump has identified India along with 21 other countries as among the major illegal drug transit or producing nations. Including India, other Asian countries identified as major drug transit or illicit drug producing countries are Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Myanmar. “A country’s presence on the foregoing list is not necessarily a reflection of its government’s counternarcotics efforts or level of cooperation with the United States,” Trump said. He further said the reasons countries WWW.WISHESH.NET | OCTOBER 2018
are placed on the list is the combination of geographic, commercial, and economic factors that allow drugs to transit or be produced, even if a government has engaged in robust and diligent narcotics control measures.
At the same time, Trump designated Bolivia and Venezuela as countries that have failed demonstrably during the previous 12 months to follow to their obligations under international counter-narcotics agreements. He also determined that support for programmes to aid the promotion of democracy in Venezuela are critical to the national interests of the U.S. Asserting that combating the ongoing U.S. opioid epidemic is one of his Administration’s most urgent priorities, Trump said his government has dedicated nearly $4 billion in additional funding to confront this national crisis. The Trump Administration is committed to addressing all factors fueling the drug crisis, which is annihilating communities across America, including steps to curb over-prescription, improve public education programs to prevent illicit drug use before it begins, expand access to treatment and recovery programs, and to strengthening domestic drug enforcement at the borders, he said. “Alongside these massive and historic United States efforts, I expect the governments of countries where illicit drugs originate and through which they transit to similarly strengthen their commitments to reduce dangerous drug production and trafficking,” Trump said. In his presidential determination, Trump expressed his profound concerns that illicit drug crops have expanded over successive years in Mexico, Colombia, and Afghanistan, and are now at record levels. Drug trafficking and producing in these three countries directly affect the U.S. national interests and the health and safety of American citizens, he said.
“Heroin originating from Mexico and cocaine from Colombia are claiming thousands of lives annually in the United States. Afghanistan’s illicit opium economy promotes corruption, funds the Taliban, and undermines that country’s security, which thousands of United States servicemen and women help defend,” Trump said. Despite the endeavors of security forces and law enforcement, these countries are falling behind in the combat to eliminate illegal crops and cut down drug production and trafficking, he rued. As such, Trump said that these governments must redouble their efforts to rise to the challenge posed by the criminal organizations producing and trafficking these drugs, and achieve greater progress over the coming year in stopping and reversing illicit drug production and trafficking. The U.S. will continue its strong support for international efforts against drug production and trafficking, as well as to strengthen prevention and treatment efforts in the United States, he added. Indian SC Delivers Historic Verdict:
Being Gay No Longer Crime in India
The Indian Supreme Court restored a landmark Delhi High Court judgment on September 5, which had criminalized homosexuality in a move that was immediately hailed by the minority LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender community). The dreaded section not only made any kind of homosexual behavior but also other kinds of “unnatural” sex such as oral and anal sex etc a criminal offense. R. F. Nariman, A.M. Khanwilkar, D.Y. Chandrachud, and Indu Malhotra, were the other benches on the bench. The judgment WWW.WISHESH.NET | OCTOBER 2018
was unanimous. The bench, however, stopped short of striking down the law. It also refrained from making a positive declaration of the community’s right to life and dignity which includes the right to make a choice of sexual preference.
The Delhi High Court had in 2009 taken this view, but a bench of the top court had controversially undone the ruling saying changing mores were best left to Parliament to deal with. Section 377 makes even consensual sexual acts - both homosexual and heterosexual - a crime if they are against the order of nature. Those in favor of diluting the law to decriminalize all consensual sexual behavior have argued that majoritarian morality must make way for constitutional morality which makes it mandatory for the state to provide equality to all. No one can be discriminated against only on the grounds of their sexual orientation and called for constitutional protection to even sexual minorities. Those against diluting Section 377, sundry religious outfits and individuals, have cited morality, religion and cultural ethos of India had urged the court to retain the law on the statute book. The government on its part left the issue to the court but insisted it cannot go beyond debating criminality, to examine other civil rights for the community such as the right to marry, adopt etc. Several leading lights of the small but significant LGBT community had challenged the very existence of the law on the statute book. A review of the top court’s 2013 judgment is still pending. OCTOBER 2018 | WWW.WISHESH.NET

Where is the Honour in Honour killing? 23 years old Dalit boy killed for marrying lover from an upper caste. Pranay Kumar was 23 years old and his wife Amrutha Varshini was pregnant with his child. Yellanki Vijayalakshmi, who was in the seventh month of her pregnancy, was brutally murdered by her own parents 4 years after her marriage because she married against their will. In March 2016, Kausalya and her husband Shankar WWW.WISHESH.NET | OCTOBER 2018
were brutally attacked on a crowded street in southern India. Shankar, who came from a lower Dalit caste, died of his injuries. Kausalya survived and accused her parents of orchestrating an honour killing. A young Pakistani woman
refused to marry the man her family chose for her, a man who was also her cousin. Instead, she eloped with a man she chose for herself. She was three months pregnant when a group of 20 people beat her to death with bricks — the mob included her father, brothers, and the
cousin she jilted. All these cases are not fiction, From Nalgonda to every other breadth of the country, this is what happens when lovers go against the wishes of their family. The reason behind honour killing is mostly justified with overzealous parents or family member attaching their “ honour” to the marital status of their off spring. Caste-ism is highly prevalent in this country. But so is intolerance. India as a country encourages arranged form of marriage. Various social, religious and
simply emotional obligations already decide the fate of the coming generation. And when one tries to decide their own future or their own life, if it is not in accordance with what the “adults” wanted- the results are often disastrous, to say the least. Its a heartbreaking predicament, the number of lives that have been taken by honour killing has been on the rise since time immemorial. The wife is pregnant, circumstances being heart-shattering, the empathy of being in the same family- none of these matter to the ones who are doing the killing. The only thing that matters to them is

Its a form of crime to go against the family in the name of love- according to the killers. It is always disgraceful. This biased and outdated view not only strips off someone of their basic right to be able to choose, but now even their life is not their own. Deviating from cultural or traditional norms and expectations — including choice of clothing, education, and employment — can incite honor-based violence. Expressing sexuality, having contact or engaging in sexual activity with the opposite sex (including rape), choosing one’s own spouse, rejecting an arranged marriage, fleeing a forced marriage, wanting to leave a marriage — all allegedly bring shame and dishonor to one’s family. The so called subjective view of honour and respect is not particularly important, if one is to look at the brutality and intensity with which WWW.WISHESH.NET | OCTOBER 2018
the assailants use violence to make a statement. l A father in Arizona ran his own daughter over with a Jeep for being “too Westernized” because “she liked make up ... hoped to be able to support herself” and rejected an arranged marriage to a man in need of a green card. The perpetrators do not even need a strong enough incentive. It boils the blood to see that all they care about is how they have been disgraced, the shame they have suffered. And the motivation behind their crimes are so skewed and unfair, that they do not realize just how far from humanity they
have strayed. Acts of honorbased violence include female genital mutilation, acid attacks, forced marriage, as well as many other forms of physical, sexual, and psychological abuse- basically strip somebody of the very right to even have a life. The biggest shocker is that their own family members are the ones perpetrating this heinous crime. It boggles the mind, as when you look at the extent till which they are ready to afflict harm on their won family. Fathers, mothers, brothers, people you thought were your protectors, now do not care about the fact that you may die. Or else how could
you justify a father throwing acid on his daughter because she spoke to a boy? What could be shameful enough to warrant a death sentence? Nothing. Though media attention often focuses on honor killings in the Middle East, South Asia, and Muslim-majority countries, the violence of this nature is certainly not limited to those regions. Honor killings have been reported not only in the UK and the US, but also in Sweden, Germany, France, Italy, Turkey, and Uganda. It’s estimated that 5,000 women are murdered globally each year in the name of honor. In India, approximately 1,000 women are victims of honor
killings every year. In Pakistan, which bears the brunt of international criticism, that figure is closer to 1,100 — the victims were commonly shot or attacked with acid. This form of revenge that the killers seek is beyond being inhuman. What gave them the right to punish someone for just living, for just loving? Who made them responsible for deciding what should or should not happen between two people. When there are so many real problems that plague the society, is criminally subjugating a couple in love in any way morally gratifying? And what did they even achieve after the so-called honor killing? Has their honor now been restored?

WWW.WISHESH.NET | OCTOBER 2018
In the name of this flag, I appeal to lovers of freedom all over the world to support this flag. -- B. Cama , Stuttgart, Germany, 1907 Amidst the plethora of changes that this country has seen, one may not be aware of the kind of sacrifices that thousands before us have mad to even get the basic right to freedom. Yes, the celebrated ones are praised night and day, and commemorated every now and then, but there are some who are lost in anonymity. Madam Cama was one such important figure, and one of the first freedom fighters to voice her rebellion without being afraid of the consequences. Long before the struggle even gathered full momentum, Madam Cama had wanted to end poverty, starvation and unemployment in India. And when she brought this to the notice of the international community , back in 1907 at the Internataional social conference, the gathering could not help but take notice. This was no mean feat, considering how the Independence the country was still 40 years away, and the Britishers back then were trying to silence every voice against the freedom of the country, then this act was definitely a form of treason. But the fearlessness of
Madam Cama is something that cannot be challenged. The illustrous fighter, Bhikaji Cama was born on September 24 1861 into a wealthy, affluent Parsi family. Her father, Sorabji Framji Patel, a prominnet merchant was at the forefront of business, education, and philanthropy in the city of Bombay. Influenced by an environment in which the Indian nationalist movement was taking root, Bhikaji was drawn toward political issues from a very early age. She had a flair for languages and soon became proficient in arguing her country’s cause in different circles. In 1885, she married Rustomji Cama, a well-known lawyer, but her involvement with sociopolitical issues led to differences between the couple. While Mr Cama adored British, loved their culture and thought they had done a lot of good to India, Bhikaji was a nationalist at heart and believed that the Britishers had ruthlessly exploited India for their own profit. It was not a happy marriage, and Bhikhaji spent most of her time and energy in philanthropic activities and social work. In 1896,the bubonic plague broke out in the Bombay
Madam Cama was one such important figure, and one of the first freedom fighters to voice her rebellion without being afraid of the consequences. Presidency and Bhikaji immediately volunteered to help the team working to save plague victims. Hundreds were dying in Bombay and Bhikaji too caught the deadly disease. Though she recovered, the disease left her in poor health. She was advised to go to Europe for rest and recuperation and in 1902, Bhikaji left India for London which was to become her home for the rest of life. During her stay there, she met Dadabhai Naoroji, a strong critic of British economic policy in India, and began working for the Indian National Congress. Cama also came in contact with other Indian nationalists, including

In October 1914, Bhikaiji and Rana were kept under arrest for a while as they attempted to incite the just arrived Punjab Regiment troops in Marseilles. As the two had to leave Marseilles, Bhikaiji went to Arcachon and joined Rana’s wife in the latter’s house. The French government sent her to Vichy in January 1915, and she was kept under confinement while Rana and his family were deported to the Caribbean island of Martinique. In November 1917, due to a deteriorating health, Bhikaiji was allowed
to return to Bordeaux with the condition that she would report to the local police on a weekly basis. She returned to her Paris home at 25, Rue de Ponthieu, after the war ended. In 1935, she suffered a stroke that deteriorated her health further and left her paralysed. She made a petition to the British government via a prominent member of the Bombay Parsi community Sir Cowasji Jehangir that she be permitted to return to her motherland. Bhikaiji returned to India in November 1935, along with Jehangir. On August 13, 1936, the fearless revolutionary who played an instrumental role in India’s struggle for freedom from as far as Europe, breathed
her last at the Parsi General Hospital in Bombay, British India. l She donated a major share of her personal assets for the Bai Avabai Framji Petit Parsi Girls Orphanage that set up a trust in her name, and also a substantial amount for Framji Nusserwanjee Patel Agiary, her family’s fire temple located at Mazgaon, in South Bombay. l To honour her work and contribution, many streets and places in India are named after her. l A commemorative stamp was issued in her honour by the Indian Posts and Telegraphs Department on the 11th Republic Day of India in 1962.

Some people call the lady who has taken charge of the Rashtrapati Bhawan as ‘Daughter of Maharashtra’, while some others call the lady of Indian origin who stayed in space for six months as the ‘Daughter of India’. I did and would love to share my experience. All the day climate was normal but nature turned wild to us, 110 saying a no to our trip. Due to heavy rainfall, we were 5 minutes late but finally caught the train. Not only a difficult start but it was a tough time with heat in noon and extreme winter chills later. Still, it is an unforgettable trip for me till date. Maybe, people of my category are called as passionate travelers. I have been to Vishakapatnam recently with my set of cool friends for 3 days trip. I completely fell in love with the city. No wonder, Vishakapatnam is called as the City of Destiny. As usual, a trip with friends is more of selfies while roaming around, especially in a magical city like Vishakapatnam. We had WWW.WISHESH.NET | OCTOBER 2018
a train journey from Hyderabad to Vishakapatnam. The whole night of journey was a package of fun for us along with an aged couple, we had conversations all the night. Vishakapatnam is located in Andhra Pradesh, it is also called as the City of Destiny. The first thing I couldn’t get over is the beauty of the beaches. The city got 12 beaches with no much distance from one to another but we have only covered visiting three beaches. Yarada beach is the best, to chill out with family or friends. The famous dolphin point and the lighthouse are the major attractions at this beach. You can have a closer view of the
beach from the lighthouse. We can’t stop capturing the scenic beauty of the beach with tall trees and full greenery around. Rishikonda is one of the captivating beaches. I just loved the way waves went through us and side sand of the beach. The view of seashore will not let you move on and may lock your legs to stay there for a long time. I asked my gang, for few more minutes and spent 3 hours in Rishikonda beach. Ramakrishna beach was our 3rd beach of the day. It has many tourist attractions like the Submarine museum, aircraft museum, fish museum. You will have plenty
like Borra caves, Katika waterfalls, Ananthagiri.and coffee plantation. We can enjoy Araku journey and it is suggested to opt train journey to Araku, as the train passes from the tunnels. You will miss the beauty of Araku, if it is a roadway. We have Katika waterfalls and Borra caves, it is better to visit Katika waterfalls taking a jeep ride before visiting Borra caves. We had fun trekking the long way to have a view of Katika waterfalls. It is a perfectly suitable place for youth and it is recommended to visit in rainy season as it remains dry in the winter season.
The most beautiful memory and still I can’t get over is ropeway which costs 80/RS. You can watch the mesmerizing view of the Bay of Bengal. I just love to visit Vizag for ropeway and it is a worth visiting the city only for ropeway. In return you can have a short devotional feeling, looking at huge beautiful idols of Lord Shiva and Parvati and Kailasagiri was the apt wind up to our trip. We got exhausted by end of the day and chilled back in the beaches the day before we had to leave.

Ashoka
The
Lost Emperor
Emperor Ashoka (304-232 BCE) was the third king of the Maurya Dynasty. He ruled a truly massive kingdom that stretched from the Hindu Kush to the Bay of Bengal. It was India’s first great empire. It is not just that Ashoka ably ruled this huge empire but the quality of social justice that he brought to his already strong administration.
WWW.WISHESH.NET | OCTOBER 2018
Under Ashoka India had an estimated population of 30 million, much higher than any of the contemporary Hellenistic kingdoms. After Ashoka’s death, however, the Mauryan dynasty came to an end and its empire dissolved. He was soon largely forgotten by Indian tradition and only remembered in Buddhist circles as a great patron of the faith. With the deciphering of his inscriptions during the 19th century, he took his rightful place in world history as one of the most benevolent rulers of antiquity. King Ashoka, the third monarch of the Indian Mauryan dynasty, has come to be regarded as one of the most exemplary rulers in world history. The British historian H.G. Wells has written: “Amidst the tens of thousands of names of monarchs that crowd the columns of history ... the name of Ashoka shines, and shines almost alone, a star.” Although Buddhist literature preserved the legend of this ruler -- the story of a cruel and ruthless king who converted to Buddhism and thereafter established a reign of virtue -definitive historical records of his reign were lacking. Then in the nineteenth century there came to light a large number of edicts, in India, Nepal, Pakistan and Afghanistan. These edicts,
inscribed on rocks and pillars, proclaim Asoka’s reforms and policies and promulgate his advice to his subjects. The present rendering of these edicts, based on earlier translations, offers us insights into a powerful and capable ruler’s attempt to establish an empire on the foundation of righteousness, a reign which makes the moral and spiritual welfare of his subjects its primary concern. Although the exact dates of Ashoka’s life are a matter of dispute among scholars, he was born in about 304 BCE and became the third king of the Mauryan dynasty after the death of his father, Bindusara. His given name was Ashoka but he assumed the title Devanampiya Piyadasi which means “Beloved-of-the-Gods, He Who Looks On With
Affection.” There seems to have been a two-year war of succession during which at least one of Ashoka’s brothers was killed. In 262 BCE, eight years after his coronation, Ashoka’s armies attacked and conquered Kalinga, a country that roughly corresponds to the modern state of Orissa. The loss of life caused by battle, reprisals, deportations and the turmoil that always exists in the aftermath of war so horrified Ashoka that it brought about a complete change in his personality. It seems that Ashoka had been calling himself a Buddhist for at least two years prior to the Kalinga war, but his commitment to Buddhism was only lukewarm and perhaps had a political motive behind it. INDIAN HISTORY
King Ashoka, the third monarch of the Indian Mauryan dynasty, has come to be regarded as one of the most exemplary rulers in world history.
114
But after the war Ashoka dedicated the rest of his life trying to apply Buddhist principles to the administration of his vast empire. He had a crucial part to play in helping Buddhism to spread both throughout India and abroad, and probably built the first major Buddhist monuments. Ashoka died in 232 BCE in the thirty-eighth year of his reign. In his efforts to propagate Buddhism, Ashoka built shrines and monasteries and inscribed Buddhist teachings on rocks and pillars in many places. He sent missionaries to countries as remote as Greece and Egypt; his own son, a monk, carried Buddhism to Sri Lanka, where it is still the major religion. WWW.WISHESH.NET | OCTOBER 2018
Despite Ashoka’s vigorous exertions of faith, he was tolerant of other religions. The empire enjoyed remarkable prosperity during his reign. And this is how he is rmebered, not for his conquest of earthly pleasures but the conquest of treasures of wisdom, peace, love and non-violence that have ever since been the proud heritage of India.

India is the second largest smart phone market in the world after China. It has just surpassed 400 million smart phone users. However, this accounts for just 44% of the potential total addressable market for smart phones as the country is underpenetrated relative to many other markets. Part of this lack of development can be attributed to the poor relative development of datacapable mobile networks and
“However, we expect competition to increase in the segment as more brands enter including Xiaomi, Asus, Nokia HMD and others,” said the white paper.
The role of SoC players is critical to unlocking the potential of the mid-tier market segments. If done successfully, we believe the mid-tier segments will grow almost four times in volume over the next five years in India. To enable this growth, cutting-edge solutions such as Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 710 are required on a broad scale. “Qualcomm already has a strong presence in key brands in the midtier. The Snapdragon 710 can further strengthen Qualcomm’s share within key brands in the mid-tier segments as it has in the $100-$200 lower-tier segment,” the white paper added.

Elon Musk Agrees to Resign as Tesla Chairman

WWW.WISHESH.NET | OCTOBER 2018
The Chief Executive Officer of Tesla Motors Elon Musk, coming under pressure from his attorneys and investors of the company has agreed to step down as chairman and pay a $20 million fine in a deal with the United States stock market regulatory authority, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), to settle securities fraud charges.
OCTOBER 2018 | WWW.WISHESH.NET
AUTOMOBILES The SEC announced the deal on September 9 - two days after it sued Musk in federal court for misleading investors over his post on Twitter last month that he was considering taking Tesla into private ownership. Musk said that he had “funding secured” for a buyout of the electric-car company at $420 a share, reports The New York Times. Musk will be allowed to remain as CEO but must leave his role as chairman of the board within 45 days, under the settlement, which 122 requires court approval. According to court filings, he cannot seek re-election for three years. He accepted the deal with the SEC “without admitting or denying the allegations of the complaint”, according to a court document. “As a result of the settlement, Elon Musk will no longer be Chairman of Tesla, Tesla’s board will adopt important reforms - including an obligation to oversee Musk’s communications with investors - and both will pay financial penalties,” Steven Peikin, Co-Director of the WWW.WISHESH.NET | OCTOBER 2018
SEC’s Enforcement Division, said in a statement. “The resolution is intended to prevent further market disruption and harm to Tesla’s shareholders,” Peikin added. Musk’s tweet overtaking his company private, along with attacks on critics on social media, raised concerns with investors regarding whether Musk has become too focused on criticism from alleged short-sellers who had been making bets against him and Tesla. According to the SEC’s complaint, Musk’s misleading tweets caused Tesla’s stock price to jump by over six percent on August 7 and led to significant market disruption. In recent years, Tesla has become one of the most valuable American carmakers, with its stock worth over $50 billion. Though, its shares have been hit hard since the SEC filed the case. On September 28, its stock dropped about 14 percent. Musk, a co-founder of Tesla, is the company’s largest stockholder, owning nearly 22 percent of its outstanding shares. In recent times, Musk has courted several controversies by making a series of out-of-the-way public comments or appearances, including an Internet interview in which he appeared to smoke marijuana. When they realize that the rift in the catacombs is what lets the devil enter into the world, Irene decides to become a nun and expels the blood of Christ when it resurfaces and through various stories the actual origin of valak and the various bodies that he prepossessed is revealed.
2.5/5
Analysis :
Story : Story: as a prequel to the very successful Conjuring, we finally come to know the backstory of Valak. Based in 1952, Romania, Nun focuses on the unseen forces that grip the Cârța Monastery. The movie starts with a lone nun hanging herself after confronting the devil in scary tunnel where she was trying to recover an ancient Christian relic. The Vatican then summons Father Burke and sister Irene to go and check the monastery and the ongoing events. Through a series of mysterious events and various confrontations with other spirits, bother Father Burke and
The movie has excellent picturization but offers very little in terms of actual entertainment. It is filled with unnecessary jump scares and the plot line is often predictable. Though the cinematography and sound effects are the narrative slacks and despite spooky atmosphere, it filled warped with inconsistent logic. The movie is heavy on spirituality and might be well suited to religious sentiments.
Final Word: The cast has given a strong performance but as the fifth installment of a wildly successful franchise, it just doe not scare you that much. Yes, there are parts that are extremely spooky and most probably will induce a few nightmares but nothing that you cant’ handle. The movie does will on an overall aspect, but it has nothing to write home about.

Aravinda Sametha Analysis : Aravindha Sametha Veera Raghava looks decent at times and it dips down during the second half. The mind boggling performance of NTR makes the film stand decent. Story : 158
Aravindha Sametha Veera Raghava is the story of two faction villages headed by Narapa Reddy (Naga Babu) and Basi Reddy (Jagapathi Babu). A small conflict turns out to be a rivalry between the villages. Veera Raghava Reddy (NTR) returns back from London after which he witnesses the brutal death of his father Narapa Reddy. This incident changes Veera Raghava and he flies to the city after which he spots Aravindha (Pooja Hegde). The rest of Aravindha Sametha Veera Raghava is all about Veera Raghava’s efforts to bring peace in the villages. Watch the film to know about the complete story and how he managed to change the people of Rayalaseema.
WWW.WISHESH.NET | OCTOBER 2018
Aravindha Sametha Veera Raghava opens with a bang with high voltage action episodes. The narration looks perfect and the film shifts towards city later. The film looks entertaining and fresh bringing up the action part at times. The songs have been decent and it is NTR’s performance that elevates the film. The interval episodes make the film look decent and the first half of Aravindha Sametha Veera Raghava looks impressive. The second half of Aravindha Sametha Veera Raghava has been good and impressive at parts and the rest of the film turns preachy. The film dips down and it picks up back during the pre-climax episodes. Some of the episodes during the second half look dragged and they make no impact. The climax looks emotional and it ends up on a simple note. On the whole the second half of Aravindha Sametha Veera Raghava fails to live up the expectations. Final Word: Aravindha Sametha Veera Raghava looks decent at times and it dips down during the second half. The mind boggling performance of NTR makes the film stand decent.

NOTA Analysis :
2/5
Story : NOTA is all about Varun (Vijay Devarakonda) who is unaware and is not bothered about the political happenings of the country. He is a spoiled brat and prefers to party despite of being the son of a Chief Minister (Nassar). Right after his father lands in legal troubles, Varun has been asked to take the oath as Chief Minister. A confused Varun struggles initially to stand tall but he later takes on the latest political happenings in the state. Watch NOTA to know about the hurdles and challenges that Varun faces as a Chief Minister.
NOTA starts on an interesting note with an interesting song narrating the characterization of Vijay Devarakonda as Varun. Things take a serious note soon and the film narrates about the political situations in the country. However the film lacks the much needed soul and NOTA first half has been filled with several unwanted episodes that make no impact. The songs are sure speed breakers and they should have been ignored. On the whole, the first half of NOTA falls short of expectations. The second half of NOTA falls flat while it discusses about the contemporary politics. The film has been losely penned and lacks natural appeal. Most of the episodes have been rushed and several unwanted episodes take the major lead. The songs once again make no impact and the climax episodes look completely fake. The climax ends on a simple note.
Final Word: NOTA is one of the poorly written political dramas that fall flat because of the bad writing and predictable narration. Vijay Devarakonda looks good.
