MATERIALS MATTER
VIETNAMESE CERAMIC POTTERY
Hand-Crafted History: Archaeological evidence shows that Vietnamese pottery and ceramics spans thousands of years, long before the eventual Chinese domination of the medium. Over centuries, the country has developed its own unique design look influenced by not only China but also Cambodia, India, and Champa.
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: VIETNAM
Materials & Method: Made of hand-molded clay, these pieces feature a hand-applied reactive glaze. Thanks to their chemical compounds, reactive glazes create a multi-hued, varied finish. A number of different techniques are used to achieve this look, including the addition of speckling agents, layering of colors, and varying the opacity levels.
