West Java has made astonish progress on the MICE in the year 20132014, with Bogor coming as the second city which hosted the annual MICE event in West Java, West Java Travel Exchange 2014 (JTX). And the development of MICE in West Java will continue to the more promising way. It will be backed up by the development of infrastructure to support the mobility of MICE in West Java. Construction of Kertajati International Airport in Majalengka planned to be completed in 2016. And in 2020 there will be a fast train or shinkansen that would connect Bandung Jakarta in just 37 minutes.

West Java, Bandung in particular, has become a destination that begin to be considered in the MICE market as an attractive destination. Of course, in addition to its location adjacent to the capital of the Country, a tourist destination that presents a lot of options as well as support and accessibility infrastructure that has been developed makes West Java as the province qualified for organizing MICE. Accessibility through air and roads or railways, convention center with good quality, five-star hotels, attractive destinations and the local professional conference organizer (PCO) that experts in the field have supported the development of the MICE industry in West Java. In this development, it seems important to encourage the campaign development and sustain the integrated marketing of tourism. One of the most important is the media making a book of information such as West Java MICE Planner. Happy reading and happy to see the other side of the diversity of West Java.

Foreword
Testimonial
from people who read West java MICE Planner 2013 (1st Edition)
Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) are a highly promising area of Indonesia's tourism industry that the government is keen to develop further through the Wonderful Indonesia campaign. According to The World Tourism Organization “the meeting industry has emerged over recent decades as an important contributor to national economies. For the local economy, the MICE tourism industry has a major role to play as such tourists spend on average three times more than leisure tourists. As a segment of the tourism industry, the MICE industry is reported to bring in multiple benefits to the national economy. One of the primary benefits of participating at MICE events is knowledge and technological transfers that will result in the human resource development. Hosting International MICE events in Indonesia will also convey positive image to wider audiences. The positive image brought by MICE events will attract more investors and tourists and eventually boost the overall tourism industry and national economy. Rizki Handayani Director of MICE & Indeed, MICE events contribute notably to the Gross Domestic Product as well as the brand awareness of Special Interest Promotion destinations. As one of MICE destinations, West Java is beginning to gather attention with the establishment of supporting MICE facilities such as good access, infrastructures, various other tourist attractions and most importantly the readiness of the local people to be a good host and the certification of the human resources to be competitive in a global MICE industry. We believe this first edition of West Java Planner will be a handy and informative guideline for international MICE stakeholders and will strengthen the position of West Java as the top of mind MICE destination in Indonesia.
Herman Rukmanadi Chairman of Indonesian Tourist Guide Association The development of MICE in West Java has been good recently. Hopefully with this book, it will have an impact on meeting / conference in West Java with the scale of international standard or ASEAN.

Asian African Confrence in Bandung 1955
in
MICE development in Indonesia has a long history. It traced back to the era when we struggle for Indonesian independence. MICE is a term for Meeting, Incentive, Conference and Exhibition. For Meeting and Conference which is actually already underway in Indonesia since the Dutch colonial era. Starting from the negotiations held by the Indonesian and Dutch related to seizure of Indonesian territory. Asian-African Conference (18 April to 24 April 1955) In Bogor Conference which held before the Asian-African Conference, Indonesia was chosen to host the conference, which is set to take place at the last week of April in 1955. The President of Indonesia at that time, Soekarno, pointing Bandung as the venue for the conference. It was the first international conference held by Indonesia. Located in Bandung, West Java followed by delegates from 29 countries representing more than half of the total population in the world at that time. The purpose of this major conference is to highlight the neutrality of countries participating to the ongoing cold war and helped the independence movement for countries in Asia and Africa which are still not independent at that time. The historical record proves that Indonesia has always been neutral and has a strategic position as a place to hold such a meeting and international conferences. Not only Indonesia, but West Java as the place where the first Asian-African International conference was held, since the first has sufficient potential to facilitate meetings and conferences. Between every meetings and conferences that occurred in Indonesia, West Java was asked many times as the host. And the locations are now become historical tourist destination like Linggarjati Building and Museum of Asian-African Conference.

Linggarjati Negotiation (15 November 1946 to 25 March 1947) Held in Kuningan, West Java, between Indonesia and Netherlands parties with the purpose of discussing the status of Indonesia's independence. This negotiation resulted in an agreement that the Dutch recognized de facto Indonesian territory. In this negotiations, Indonesia was represented by Sutan Syahrir, the Netherlands was represented by a team called the General Commission and chaired by Wim Schermerhorn with members of HJ van Mook, and Lord Killearn of England to act as a mediator in this negotiation. Bogor Conference (1949) The conference of Asia Africa was preceded by the Bogor Conference (1949). The conference reflected what the organizers regarded as a reluctance by the Western powers to consult with them on decisions affecting Asia in a setting of Cold War tensions; their concern over tension between the People's Republic of China and the United States; their desire to lay firmer foundations for China's peace relations with themselves and the West; their opposition to colonialism, especially French influence in North Africa and its colonial rule in Algeria; and Indonesia's desire to promote its case in the dispute with the Netherlands over western New Guinea (Irian Barat). Sukarno, the first president of the Republic of Indonesia, portrayed himself as the leader of this group of states, naming it NEFOS (Newly Emerging Forces). Plans for the conference were announced in December 1954.
Times have changed and the world is experiencing a new trend of MICE development. It takes more than just a potential to repeat the history when West Java is one of the strategic locations to hold international conferences. Some industrial cities in West Java are wide enough to become a target market, supported by the tourism destinations that offer natural attractions, culture, and history as an incentive destination. Not only that, in the years ahead there will be a significant development in West Java, especially in the field of transport and infrastructure. Increasingly easy accessibility, supported with adequate facilities and hospitality of human resources, are important points that will make West Java as one of the flagship regional MICE destinations in Indonesia.

PAPANDAYAN M o u n t Pa p a n d a y a n i s a c o m p l e x stratovolcano, located in Garut Regency, in the Southeast of Bandung City in West Java, Indonesia. This interesting place lies in the border of Bandung and Garut regency, about seventy kilometers to the south of Bandung and about 19.25 km from Garut. Papandayan Mountain is one of the natural wonders in West Java, one of the most spectacular volcanoes in this province. Mount Papandayan’s crater is probably one of the most spectacular mountain scenes in Java Island.
Cautions! 1. We should always be cautious for the soil which is very unstable. 2. There is a lake in Papandayan Mountain called Telaga Warna. This lake has a greenish color and gives out a strong gas stench. 3. You should keep in mind the importance of a guide due to the mountain's active status. This mountain erupted for some time, leaving the surrounding burnt by the hot steam it emits. Though the damage made by the eruption turned the view of the surrounding in to a unique and rare to see. 4. Continued to the top, we need to walk through the puff of sulfur smokes. Wear your mask so you do not need to breathe the sulfur in your lungs, it's not only bad for your health but the smell is also bad.

The movement of Merak where he blooms his tail feathers to attract female peacock has inspired Tjetje R. Somantri to make this Merak dance. Of the many dances created by Raden Tjetje Somantri, maybe this Merak dance is the most popular dance in Indonesia and abroad. Merak dance is a traditional folk dance originating from Pasundan land, West Java. This dance was created by Raden Tjetje Somantri in 1950s and it had been rearrange by Irawati Durban in 1965. From its name, it clearly describes the dance that symbolize the elegant of peacock movements. Merak dance is can be performed solo or in groups. The dancers of this beautiful dance are wearing scarf that perform the tail of the peacock with multicolor scenic tone. Moreover, the dancers are also wearing the crown like peacock head crown. Merak dance is having delicate hand movements and it follows by traditional ‘Gamelan’ music, that becomes the main characteristic of this dance. Each movement in this dance is meaningful and happy, that is why it sometime becomes the welcome dance to greet the guest of honor in wedding ceremony.
Tari Merak or Dance of the Peacock is a female dance. Merak (Sundanese) means peacock and the choreography is inspired by the beautiful movements of a peacock. Gepuk is an Indonesian sweet and spicy fried beef dish. This dish is commonly popular in Java island, but can

trace its origin to Sundanese cuisine of West Java, Indonesia. The beef preferably used in this dish is shank part. First the beef is boiled until medium well, then being cutted quite thick along the muscle fiber into half-palm size. Then using stone pestle and mortar, the beef pieces are beaten mildly to loosen the meat fibers and spread its size a little bit. The spices used in this dish are ground shallot, garlic, chili pepper, coriander, palm sugar and salt, mixed with bruised lemongrass, galangal, daun salam (Indonesian bay leaf), a little coconut milk and turmeric water. The meat pieces are cooked with the spices well until the spice are absorbed into the meat and the stock evaporate. Then the meat pieces are fried in coconut oil until the color darken and the meat is done.
Behind the authentic menu there is a chef who combines distinctive Sundanese taste with western style, he was Chef Suhendar. With experience as a chef for 40 years he makes a variety of Sundanese menus, made innovation so the traditional menu could have a western flavor. With a background of tourism university (NHI)

graduates in 1974, he has served in many different places including overseas, namely Switzerland and Texas, United States. So it is not surprising that the menus that are served by Sindang Reret be well received by local consumer and also by foreign tourists. gado but the spices that make up the peanut sauce as well as some of the vegetables used are different. Lotek is usually eaten with steamed rice or lontong, sticky cubes of rice that are neutral in taste thus complementing the spiciness. It is especially popular amongst ibu ibu (older ladies) for its healthy qualities. Although the idea of eating raw vegetables with a spicy sauce might seem foreign to foreigners, it actually works very well. As long as the vegetables aren't overcooked, its crispy bite offers what is needed for coping with the spicy after taste of the peanut sauce.
Tahu Gejrot Tahu Gejrot is a characteristic food from Cirebon, Indonesia. Tahu gejrot consists of fried tofu which was then cut into small pieces and eaten with adequate amount of marinade sauce that is from blending brown sugar, vinegar, and sweet soy sauce. The origin of Cirebon batik, just as Yogyakarta and Solo batik, originates from the royal family in the thirteenth century who is like painting on palm leaves prior cotton yarn has been known. Batik Cirebonan was born in the palace environment then carried out by the courtiers who resides outside the palace. Cirebonan motif characterized by symbolic images of forests and animals, or eagle motif which is influenced by Yogyakarta and Solo. There is also a sea patterned as a result of acculturation between Chinese culture, especially Mega Mendung motif which was created by Prince Cakrabuana (1452-1479).

K U J A N G The Kujang is a bladed weapon native to the Sundanese people of West Java, Indonesia. The earliest Kujang made is around the 8th or 9th century. It is forged out of iron, steel and pattern welding steel with a length of approximately 2025cm and weighs about 300 grams. According to Sanghyang Siksakanda Ng Karesian canto XVII, Kujang was the weapon of farmers and has its roots in agriculture purpose. It is thought to originate from its predecessor, a Kudi. Kujang is one of the traditional weapons in the Sundanese school of Pencak Silat. The Kujang, like the Keris is a blade of sentimental and spiritual value to the people of Indonesia, who have a vast belief in supernatural powers.
Kujang is known as a traditional weapon of West Java (Sunda) people which has a sacred value as well as having magical powers. Some researchers claim that the term "Kujang" is derived from the word kudihyang (kudi and Hyang). Kujang also comes from the word Ujang, which means man or to human. The powerful human such as King Siliwangi. Kudi taken from the Sundanese language means an ancient weapon that has magic power which is used as a talisman or repellent reinforcements, for example to dispel enemies or avoid dangerous/disease. These weapons are also stored as an heirloom, which is used to protect the home from danger by putting them in a crate or a specific place in the house or by putting it on a bed. Hyang Cirebon city is the largest batik producer on the north coast of Java island. Cirebonan Batik is strongly influenced by the character of its people, they are very open-minded and receptive to the influence of foreign culture. The openness is applied into the colorful and attractive motifs which can be seen in handmade batik, printed batik, and combination batik.
can be equated with the notion of God in some mythology, but for the Sundanese people Hyang has a meaning and a position above the Gods. In the past Kujang can not be separated from the social life of Sundanese people because of its function as a Sundanese agricultural equipment. The evidence strengthens the claim that Kujang as farm equipment we can still see today in Baduy, Banten and Pancer Pangawinan in Sukabumi.
“Batik Trusmi (Cirebonan typical batik) has an interesting style, steeped in the history and culture of Cirebon city as one haven ports in Indonesia where traders from Arabia, India, and China had come.
