known for its special ‘southern hospitality.’ A thriving university town with a progressive population, Bowling Green is the 3rd largest city in Kentucky and the dining and shopping mecca for a dozen surrounding counties. It’s a bustling city with a diverse economy, awardwinning schools, affordable housing, and a low crime rate. In 2014, it was ranked among the top 20 Great Affordable College towns.

since 1994

Bowling Green is home to the General Motors Corvette Assembly - the only Corvette production facility in the world. The Corvette Museum includes one-of-a-kind prototypes that were designed but never manufactured as well as other Corvette memorabilia. To view amazing natural creations head to the Lost River Valley and Cave. Take the underground boat tour, on the shortest deep river in the world, to see a land formation that is more than 10,000 years old. Bowling Green is also home to a number of historic war landmarks, exquisite old homes and remarkable buildings that can be visited on foot or by car during a leisurely drive through this beautiful part of the country.

THE WORLD IS YOUR CLASSROOM

International education programs provide you the opportunity to extend your learning beyond the borders of the WKU campus, make global connections, and build skills which are valuable to future employers. Students who study abroad often return with a greater awareness of the world and global issues, a better understanding of their own culture, increased interpersonal, cross-cultural and leadership skills, and improved self-confidence—assets that will serve you well in the future. Research has shown that those who have studied abroad are more likely to be hired sooner after graduation and have a higher starting salary than those who did not. As graduates compete for jobs in this global economy, study abroad is something that can set you apart!

D WNING STUDENT UNION:

The heart of Western Kentucky University’s campus!

Located in the center of campus, the Downing Student Union (DSU) is truly the heart of student activity at Western Kentucky University. Originally constructed in 1970, the building underwent a $50 million dollar renovation to become among the most state-of-the-art student unions in the nation when it reopened in 2014. This beautiful facility houses academic support services, is home to a variety of campus restaurants, and serves as a meeting facility for student organizations. A variety of student-based programming occurs in DSU throughout the year including lectures by world-renowned speakers, campus pageants, academic competitions, dances, banquets, and other special events. Whether you want to buy books and supplies, enjoy a meal, become involved in leadership or volunteer activities, learn more about student organizations, explore job opportunities, locate tutoring assistance, take part in exciting entertainment events, or just meet friends, the Downing Student Union is the place to visit while you’re at Western Kentucky University!

AUGENSTEIN ALUMNI CENTER

Dedicated in 2013, the 30,000 square foot Augenstein Alumni Center provides a familiar meeting place for Hilltoppers of the past, present and future. In addition to housing a museum showcasing articles from WKU’s extensive history and providing meeting space for functions both large and small, the Center also serves as the official welcome center for WKU visitors, and is the launching point for campus tours. This beautiful building is entirely the result of contributions from alumni and friends who wish to celebrate WKU students of the past, present, and future. As WKU President Dr. Gary Ransdell recently commented, “This building speaks to our traditions…our values… and all the things that make us distinctive as a university. Prospective students will start their tours here. They’ll learn about our traditions even as they’re making a decision to become a Hilltopper.” Once at the Augenstein Alumni Center, you’re just minutes away from downtown Bowling Green and all of the exciting dining, shopping, sporting events, and entertainment the city has to offer. The Center is adjacent to a brand new university-owned apartment complex for WKU students, and a soon-to-be-completed Hyatt Place® hotel, making campus visits even more convenient!

Dining at

WKU has a wide variety of dining locations to choose from. Visit Java City or Starbucks for a quick pick-me-up. Einstein Bros. Bagels in Mass Media and Technology Hall feeds your breakfast food cravings, while Subway, Panda Express, Papa John’s Pizza and Chick-fil-A provide good food on the go. The Fresh Food Company offers an all-you-care-to-eat buffet-style dining experience for breakfast, lunch and dinner with several different stations. WKU is also home to the world’s only Steak ‘n Shake located on a college campus! Each dining facility offers healthy and vegetarian choices to students. Check out our dining facilities and meal plan options at www.wkudining.com.

Housing At WKU, we want to make campus accommodations as comfortable as possible. More than $70 million has been spent on renovations of our 15 residence halls, all of which boast air-conditioning, wireless internet, kitchen and laundry facilities, and study rooms. We offer single gender as well as co-ed residence halls, some with options like themed living and living/learning facilities. Those options pair students with others who have the same interests, majors, or study habits. Learn more about housing and obtain the necessary forms at www.wku.edu/housing.
