I was co-opted as Telford Campus officer in November 2016 so have an understanding of what is expected of this position. As well as campus officer I have also been a course rep for 2 years. Over this time I gained the confidence and experience needed to Liam Slough
appropriately represent my fellow students.
Telford Campus Officer
I have helped out at volunteering events since day one. For example, I got involved with Welcome Week before I even arrived as a first year. I am also in the process of arranging a week of events for Autism Awareness Week - the first ever student-led voluntary project Phoebe Hinton-Sheley
at Wolves Uni.
Volunteering Engagement Officer
After 3 months of working in a successful restaurant, I was asked to become a supervisor. Where I overlooked the staff and the restaurant and also acted as manger when she was off work. I am currently working as the team leader in the Squeezebox on Walsall Georgia Snelling
campus where I can help others if needed.
Walsall Campus Officer
I have been a Faculty Rep for 2 years and have attended many Union Councils, I have also chaired Union Council when there has been no chair available. I have good communication and listening skills. I am fair to all. My time management skills enable me to keep the Council within the set time. Gemma Gessey Chair of Council
I have been representing student views as a course rep and volunteering as a link between SU’s Welfare VP and local police. I am now working in Registry where I manage Quality4Students project. My experience provides me with both student and staff Pawel Lewandowski City Campus Officer

perspectives and would be invaluable in this role.
I have some experience in the voluntary sector as I stood for the role position of student course representative for sociology and social policy not long ago. In this position I learnt all about communicating and positive interacting with fellow peers. It was a Naresh Kumar
brilliant process of learning.
Environmental Officer
I have worked with several refugee and migrant charities in the West Midlands in the past 5 years. I am currently waiting on a start date as a volunteer with the Wolverhampton Refugee Charity. Temba Ethnic & Cultural Diversity Rep
I was the international student officer last semester. I absolutely enjoyed the role that I undertook, helping out the full time officers, creating a friendly environment for the international students that come in. I feel like an experience like that one is one that Sohaib Farooqui
cannot be replaced or recreated.
International Officer
As Vice-president of Chinese Students’ and Scholars Association (CSSA), I have liaised a successful and excellent Chinese New Year celebration for students and staffs to enjoy, and encourage Chinese students to show Chinese and Asian culture for internationals Yueyun Zou
students to experience.
International Officer
I have my own experiences as a disabled student, & I’m very open to understanding those of other students. I also have the experience of being a Course Rep (for Deaf Studies & SENDIS) where I have attended as many meetings as possible to raise awareness of, and seek solutions to, our issues at uni. Having been Campus officer for a few months, I would jump at the opportunity to hold this position for a full academic year. More importantly, I still feel there is much I can offer in this position because of the passion I have to try bring around positive change. Liam Slough Telford Campus Officer
I have worked with Belinda Johnson (SU Volunteer Project Coordinator) on a few things now, and we have loads of ideas for the upcoming year! I love volunteering, as I believe that giving your time is something that not many people do anymore - but really should. It’s so, so rewarding. Phoebe Hinton-Sheley Volunteering Engagement Officer
I really believe I am a fitting candidate as I have a lot of passion for the University. I like to make things to become the best they can and having the opportunity to start with Walsall campus would be amazing also helping students with their academic studies and university life. Georgia Snelling Walsall Campus Officer
I nominated myself for this position because I believe that I will suit this role, I am passionate about being a part of the SU and want to be an active member within another role. This will enable me to expand on my current skills I have gained as a Gemma Gessey
Faculty Rep.
Chair of Council
Even before I became a course rep I always aimed to improve my fellow students’ experience. I supported them in their studies and brought their issues to the governance committees. This role would enable me to help students on a much bigger scale. Pawel Lewandowski City Campus Officer

During my time as course representative I forwarded many recommendations to the university and one senior full time officer examined my statements and suggested I should nominate myself for this position as I exemplified great enthusiasm for the role Naresh Kumar
description unknowingly.
Environmental Officer

I feel like I would want to carry forward the work that I had been doing with the full time officers in the last semester. Also, working for the people is one of the roles that I thoroughly enjoy. Helping people and putting their ideas forward is my idea of getting Sohaib Farooqui
things done and it shall be done.
International Officer
Based on previous experience, I am confident to encourage more international students to share their culture and festival for students and staffs to experience, and to improve the reputation of our international university in the UK and Asia. Yueyun Zou International Officer
I think I can help. People come to me with their problems and I try to point them toward others who can support or advise them. I’m not afraid to admit when I don’t know what to do, and I’m always eager to ask questions and learn! Elodie Pearce Students with Disabilities Rep

In my opinion one of the biggest issues a student has is representation on their course, faculty and campus about issues they face on daily basis. As campus officer I would take out time to engage with students face to face, which will hopefully enable me to Liam Slough
represent my campus more effectively.
Telford Campus Officer
For me, I noticed that Welcome Week this past academic year (16/17) was a little hectic - it was WAY more popular than anyone expected! I want to help sort that out (more staff organisation, better signposting, etc). I also want to make it easier for students to volunteer (e.g. one-off events). Phoebe Hinton-Sheley Volunteering Engagement Officer
The issues are the support through dyslexia students due to their academic studies. I also believe the students don’t have enough to do in the evenings, therefore frequent entertainment at night would be beneficial for the campus, also a Walsall campus shop would be perfect for students and staff. Georgia Snelling Walsall Campus Officer
The biggest issue students face within the University is having the impression that their views or feedback do not get heard. To try and solve this, I would ensure that Union Council members Council Reports were detailed and specific to their role and held Gemma Gessey
accountable against them by members.
Chair of Council
I believe lack of true representation to be the biggest problem in Wolverhampton. Student reps work very hard but it is impossible for them to capture a full voice of our diverse population. I will support SU and university in implementing modernised, robust Pawel Lewandowski City Campus Officer

Student Voice mechanisms.
I think one of the greatest issues that today’s students are faced with are the positive ideas associated with global warming and renewable resources. I intend to promote the start up of a society and or join existing societies that dwell more deeply into such Naresh Kumar
concerns.
Environmental Officer
Assessment pressures, the starting of many different kinds of Study Groups to help students cope with the stress and pressure of university assignments.
Temba Ethnic & Cultural Diversity Rep
I have noticed that the students at the university always face the issue of engagement and the ever so present issue of communication between the university and the students is present. Sohaib Farooqui International Officer
Most international students who come from Asia may feel isolated or alone when they first come to our university because of cultural differences. I hope to organise different activities to help them to build friendships with other students and join in our family positively. Yueyun Zou International Officer
I think that the biggest issue for Deaf and Disabled students is lack of awareness and understanding, at university and in life in general. The only solution I can recommend for this is education and empathy. Elodie Pearce Students with Disabilities Rep

Last year as campus officer I helped to put in place a new bus timetable for the Telford Campus. Double decker buses are planned to be used in Sep 2017 to fill all the current gaps in the Telford bus timetable and provide a seat for all students travelling to and Liam Slough
from Telford.
Telford Campus Officer
I started my college’s Entertainment Committee! The SU was located on the other Campus, so not much happened at mine (Dudley Sixth). So, I decided to take matters into my own hands: I put on a Halloween Movie Night, a Christmas Party, and an Anti-Valentines “Dungeons and Dragons” Tournament! Phoebe Hinton-Sheley Volunteering Engagement Officer
I have changed staff’s work rotas so they can attend family and personal matters which has taken a weight of their shoulders, as work is always a massive worry. Also, listening to people’s views and changing them to benefit everybody, making it a positive environment. Georgia Snelling Walsall Campus Officer
Within the Nursing Institute, adult student nurses based at City campus could have their work marked by a mental health lecturer based at Burton campus. This caused students to become stress. I campaigned to have field and site specific marking which has Gemma Gessey
benefited student nurses.
Chair of Council
I have led a fundraising campaign for Acorns Hospice along with five other students. We have managed to raise £400 and were awarded first class marks. My team was absolutely brilliant and I am proud that I have been a part of this effort. Pawel Lewandowski City Campus Officer

During my time as course representative I recall meeting up with students to discuss their concerns, if I was unable to handle their query I would always positively post them in the right direction, this skill I believe helped them to pass and benefited them in their student Naresh Kumar
careers.
Environmental Officer
Started a petition at Victoria Halls to complain about the state of the lifts. Now they are regularly serviced.

During my first semester, there was a gap between the students in the class and the lectures they attended for the computer science modules. I saw that as an opportunity to use my skills and started a peer study group that met every week and helped solve Sohaib Farooqui
the issues/problems of all the students.
International Officer
An overseas student who lives in same house with me was lonely and had few friends. I introduced him to a number of friends and invited him to join my badminton group. He is now a lot happier and making new friends on his own. Yueyun Zou International Officer
Very recently we found that lecturers aren’t clear on where the info on students TAS’s apply to presentations, as they only specify exams and assessments. So I sought clarification from SEC and fed that back to the lecturers, allowing them clearer Elodie Pearce Students with Disabilities Rep
