Trying to find a place to store your newest accessions? Still haven’t found space for things already part of your holdings? You are not alone!
Why not join your colleagues from across the region to discuss the issue of physical storage for collections and what common concerns and/or challenges you may have. As part of the discussion, we have invited guests to join us who have been involved in cooperative efforts with multiple organizations to develop shared spaces for storage and programming. They can relate some of their experiences and maybe provide ideas and suggestions for tackling the space dilemma!
WNYLRC Workshop with OCLC: WebJunction, Wikipedia + Libraries: Better Together Date and time: Thursday, September 21, 2017, 1:00pm-3:00pm Location: WNYLRC Training Center and Board Room Description: Join colleagues for an overview of the many resources and learning opportunities available to the library community through WebJunction. The session will also provide a closer look at Wikipedia + Libraries (http:// www.webjunction.org/explore-topics/wikipedia-libraries.html), a project of OCLC Research and WebJunction. Attendees will learn how this new project facilitates human-to-human connections among Wikipedians and librarians, and exposes librarians to the inner-workings of Wikipedia so that they can work hands-on with the resource and adeptly guide their patrons' use of it. WNYLRC Workshop: Digitization: See it, Plan it, Do it! Date and time: Wednesday, September 27, 2017, from 10:00am-4:30pm Location: WNYLRC Training Center and Board Room Description: This is a training session focusing on discussions of the ethical, legal, and practical challenges of digitizing collections. The presentation and discussion will address issues related to digitizing photos, recordings, newspapers, yearbooks, and other legacy items. Attendees should leave with a thorough grounding of the essential considerations--and practical solutions--for taking a digitization project from concept to reality."

October WNYLRC Online Workshop: Online Searching for Librarians Doing Virtual Reference (6-week Web Class) Date and time: Begins Monday, October 2, 2017 and ends, November 10, 2017, 8:00am-8:00pm Location: online- you will receive login information the week before Description: This is a 6-week online class running on Moodle. This class will explore advanced search methods for finding information on the web in general, and tactics for finding resources in another library's databases/catalog. Presenter: Jaclyn McKewan is the Digital Services Coordinator at WNYLRC.

WNYLRC Workshop, User-Centered Design: Listening to Patrons to Improve Services & Spaces Date and time: Friday, October 13, 2017, from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm Location: WNYLRC Training Center and Board Room Description: Our presenters will discuss trends in redesigning learning spaces in libraries and share some of the work done at Mann Library at Cornell over the last several years to address the creation of physical settings that promote greater collaboration in learning and improve the library experience for the 21st century library patron. Presenters: Camille Andrews is Emerging Literacies Librarian at Albert R. Mann Library at Cornell University Library (CUL), where she works on online learning, multimodal literacies and the MannYoufacture makerspace. Sara Wright is the Head of Learning, Spaces, & Technology at Albert R. Mann Library, part of the Cornell University Library (CUL) system, where she leads a team focused on instruction and assessment, services and spaces, and the incorporation of emerging technologies into our learning spaces.

Description: This workshop will introduce attendees to a useful and easy to use graphic design tool, Canva. Attendees will have the opportunity to work hands-on with Canva. Presenter: Tina Broomfield is the Technology and Training Librarian at the Rochester Regional Library Council and the Projects Coordinator for the Empire State Library Network.

This part train-the-trainer, part tools workshop will teach library staff new techniques for problem-solving, communication, creativity, and collaboration needed for ensuring that our communities have the resources they need to responsibly approach the web. WNYLRC Workshop: Creating “Discoverable” Finding Aids with Empire Archival Discovery Cooperative Date and time: Thursday, November 16, 2017 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Location: WNYLRC Training Center and Board Room Description: The goal of the Empire Archival Discovery Cooperative (Empire ADC; www.empireadc.org) is to increase access to New York State’s archival collections by providing a central online repository for searching collection descriptions (called finding aids). This 2-part workshop will teach participants how to contribute finding aids to Empire ADC. You may register for
one or both of the sessions.
The morning session will address best practices for creating finding aids, including a brief review of DACS, controlled vocabulary, and discussion of the minimum elements required for creating finding aids using the EADitor software. Participants who attend the morning session are encouraged to come with a prepared finding aid.* The afternoon session will introduce participants to the EADitor software as it is being used by Empire ADC. This session will provide hands-on guided instruction on how to navigate the software and input data. Presenters: Sarah Pinard has served as the Processing Archivist for the University at Buffalo’s University Archives since January 2014. Jennifer Palmentiero is the Digital Services Librarian at the Southeastern New York Library Resources Council (SENYLRC).
