Thesis - Bookscape A Narrative of a Library
University Of Wisconsin-Milwaukee 16 week process
Taking over the current site of the Harold Washington Library in Chicago, Illinois, the intent was to bread away from traditional starting points of a project and have the circulation be the deciding factor of the building. The circulation of the library is meant to challenge the notion that the circulation pathways should not be the last piece of the puzzle, but the starting point. Program, book cases, and facade are all determined by the circulation and are tools to showcase the unique floor plates of the library. The floor plates are used to the advantage of further study and showcasing of interior program. This includes the differentiation of a children’s library, a youth library, general library, and additional side program including music rooms, private study rooms, a maker space, auditorium, multipurpose space, and cafe.

Mixing Multiuse Building
University Of Wisconsin-Milwaukee 8 week process
The project took place during Comprehensive Studio which entailed entering into the Timber In The City: Urban Habitat Competition. Using the competition rules and guidelines, the project was a mid-rise, mixed use complex with housing (studios, 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom, and 3-bedroom), an outpost of the Andy Warhol Museum, and a new expanded home for the Essex Street Market. The site itself is located in Manhattan’s lower east side in the former Seward Park Urban Redevelopment Area. Being a timber competition, the structure was to be done entirely in timber construction. This project for our studio was to be done in groups. With 3 members to a group, each member worked on a particular piece of the project that was to be discussed as a group to ensure unity between the 3 different pieces.

Narrative: Bonsai Gallery
University of Wisconsin-Milwuakee 10 week process
This studio was a think tank for the Milwaukee Bonsai Society, who had plans of creating a permanent bonsai gallery at Lynden Sculpture Garden. The project and its constraints changed throughout the semester as we were working closely with the clients of the Milwaukee Bonsai Society and the committee members at Lynden Sculpture Garden. This project was a volunteered partner project towards the end. The final presentation resulted in an exhibition at Lynden Sculpture Garden, with the challenge that each individual or group had to make a display of their own creation.
Concept: The project is based upon a block system that can be continuously connected to each other block and to the site. This allows for easy future expansion possibilities and flexibility of placement on the site. The placement of each bonsai are meant to be placed individually in the nooks to allow each unique personality of the bonsai’s to shine on their own, instead of being overpowered by another. Three sizes of stands play into the flexibility aspect as well as curation potential for the numerous sizes of bonsai’s. Brick ground treatment is used to differentiate the spaces further; ambassador brick is used for the main walk-way, re-used cream city brick in the bonsai compartments, and a Norman brick is used in the bonsai holding area.

Add
Design Group Three This second story addition in Mequon, Wisconsin presented a new situation as it was the first project I worked on in the professional field. New situations that were encountered included trusses, roofing engineering, adding a new dormer on the front of the house, and a slight slope to the interior roof in the new master bathroom. The front porch of the house was worked on as well in this project that included changed to the entryway into the house, extending the front porch, and new stonework on the exterior wall of the front door. Throughout the project, I specifically did detail sections regarding the new arch entryway, setting up initial walkthroughs of the projects, and managed the ordering of building supplies as needed. Frequent job visits were done to further manage the projects as problems or challenges occured.

Design Group Three This new house project was the first new house project that I worked on in the professional field. One situation that needed to be consulted is the wind bracing calculations of the front wall. My deilverables were the DD and CD’s of this house. A physical model was built as well for the clients.
