Dear Readers, If you’re a busy woman (and what woman isn’t?), staying organized and on top of every aspect of your busy life … family, home, work, community, can be overwhelming.

Woman Newspapers and Little Pink Pages have been on a mission to help women enrich their lives, starting with a directory based on the simple question, “How can we help women in Central PA find what they need, when they need it?” Little Pink Pages can simplify your life by providing you with women-centered businesses and professional services in your neighborhood. Along with the directories, our fun articles and simple how-tos are designed to make your life easier. With the age of technology, we found that we needed to move in this direction. We are happy to simplify your lives even more with our Little Pink Pages website: www.littlepinkpages.com. Little Pink Pages directory is designed to provide connections and resources that enhance not only your business success, but personal enrichment as well. As you browse the many categories available, I will continually seek businesses that fill the variety of needs you are looking for.

Hot or Not? Discover this Year’s Most In-Demand Jobs

The 2017 Hot Jobs report reveals the most in-demand and emerging jobs across engineering, finance and accounting, human resources, information technology (IT), life sciences, manufacturing and logistics, office and administration, and non-clinical healthcare. Experts, along with many economists, predict a strong economy in 2017, which is likely to result in more job opportunities nationwide. It’s important to stay in-the-know to find out which jobs hold the greatest potential. Job seekers looking for career growth can improve their chances of landing these coveted roles by knowing employer pain points and packaging their skills and knowledge as potential solutions. Here are tips to help candidates better understand what type of job market they face. • If you have a knack for science and technology, consider engineering. The industry continues to evolve based on market trends and technical innovation, and the unemployment rate for the overall field is well below the national average. • Interested in finance and accounting? Beef up your public accounting and general ledger software skills to be more competitive. You’ll also have a leg up if you speak a second language, as the demand for bilingual candidates continues to rise. • Passionate about working in a front or back office role within the healthcare system? Non-clin4

LittlePinkPages.com SPRING & SUMMER 2017

Whether you just entered the career world or have been in the workforce for years, if you’re hunting for a new gig, it’s time to discover this year’s hottest jobs.

ical healthcare is booming, with emerging jobs like medical secretary and medical assistant in facilities needing additional support. • Discover new opportunities in life sciences by exploring positions flush with research and development funding. With continued innovations in medical technology, the changing regulatory environment and upcoming patent expirations, the industry requires highly specialized talent to fill open voids. • Be the IT guy and consider a job in Big Data. While IT is an ever-growing industry, Big Data positions are critical to increasing productivity, and innovation is in high demand. • As office and administration roles grow, these positions are starting to look more like middle management than support staff. If you possess diverse skills with experience in project management, budgeting, marketing and training, you’ll have the upper hand. • New technology and innovative production systems are sparking a rebirth in American manufacturing and logistics. Job seekers with previous experience, higher education, technological know-how or training will have a competitive edge. • As employers seek new talent to fill all these hot jobs, consider being the human in human resources. A field with rapid technological advancements, professionals with a digital mindset will lead the pack. statepoint

he most popular names of the more than 5,000 Pennsylvania-born babies delivered in 2016 at Geisinger Health System hospitals TOP has been tabulated. For the second year, GIRL'S variations of the name Jackson were the NAMES: top moniker for baby boys. Grayson climbed the crib rails into the top 10 list, Olivia overcoming Liam to settle into second Emma place. Olivia crawled up eight spots to Adalynn tie with Emma for the top girls’ name, Madison bumping Adalynn to the backseat. Charlotte Most of the girls’ names are new to the top 10 list, except for family favorites Olivia, Emma and Adalynn. For the boys, Aidan and Gabriel lost their top spots, making room for names like Wyatt and Oliver for the first time.

Harper Grace Sophia Lillian Amelia

To find these results, different spelling variations of the same sounding name were combined. For example, the ranking for Adalynn also includes variations Adalinn, Adalyn, Addalyn and Addalynn. While Jackson also includes variations such as Jacksen, Jaxon, Jaxson and Jaxxon. Many of the other names on the list include multiple spellings.

TOP BOY'S NAMES:

In comparison, website BabyCenter.com recently released that the most popular names of 2016 as reported by their subscribers were Sophia for girls and — surprise — Jackson for boys.

Bridesmaid Dresses ow many times have you or someone in your family been a bridesmaid? More than you care to count? If you're like most women, you probably have a lot of your old bridesmaid dresses hanging somewhere in the back of your closet. There's just not much use for bridesmaid dresses after the initial wear, unless of course, you were fortunate enough to get a dress that you could wear on other occasions. Rather than let those dresses take up any more room in your closet, why not recycle them into something else.

“Women are the real architects of society." harriet beecher stowe

Most bridesmaid dresses are made from quality fabric, that when pulled apart, makes for a variety of projects. There are dozens of projects out there in which you can use the fabric you pull from your old bridesmaid dress. You can turn it into a new purse, scarf, pillow, quilt or more. Don't know how to sew? Relax. With some spray adhesive, you can use the fabric to cover a variety of objects from books to photo frames to storage boxes and more.

LittlePinkPages.com SPRING & SUMMER 2017

Free up valuable closet space. Turn those old bridesmaid dresses into fabric and transform all of that fabric into more visible reminders of the special events in which you had the honor of participating.

@ Behaviors of Pet Owners

America’s first state domestic violence coalition, extending a lifeline to more than 3 million victims and their children

o you share a playlist with your poodle? Take a bath with your turtle? It might seem far-fetched, but since many people treat pets like family, they often let them do surprising things. A recent survey, commissioned by Moen, conducted online by Harris Poll, finds that, among other things, 43 percent of Americans who have ever owned a pet have let their pet lick their plate before washing them. From bathing with pets to letting them sit at the dinner table, pet owners do peculiar things.

Almost all of us have had at least one furry friend in our lifetime. What’s different about today’s pets, however, is that we truly treat them like family. Sometimes, even better.

To make pets feel like someone is with them at all times, some people leave the TV on for them. And some do a bit more. Indeed, the average amount Americans who have ever owned a pet spend on their pet per month is $55, outside of medical expenses. Pet lovers have also installed automatic faucets to fill dog water bowls, created pet bathing stations, and even some have bathtubs dedicated solely to washing pets. It’s no longer a ‘man’s world’ these days. It’s a ‘pet’s world,’ and we’re just living in it. statepoint
