t’s a New Season...It’s a New Day...Fresh Anointing is Coming my Way...It’s a Sea­ son of Power and Prosperity...it’s a New Season Coming to Me”. These lyr­ ics produced by award winning song writer Isreal Houghton clearly awakens our ear gates with a word of encour­ agement for the hour of stepping into a New Season of Divine Purpose. The WINning Team would like to inspire our readers to reach higher and to prepa­ re for God’s best in this season of Power­ ful Re-Alignment. In the pursuit of pur­ pose with passion I have personally ex­ perienced dramatic shifts in relation­ ships while the universal atomospehere has changed and it’s all for the good. I am re­ minded of my childhood in Fayetteville, North Carolina. My grandmother in her in­ finite wisdom shared lots of tried and test­ ed lessons for living , one of those tips in­ cluded turning off the television and ra­ dio during extreme weather changes in­ cluding thunder storms, lightening or even heavy rains. Talking on the telephone dur­ ing a storm was totally unacceptable. In October we will transition into the 2009 fall season with increased rain showers, storms and lightening. In preparation for the sea­ son to come I have chosen to follow the loving advice of grandma including turn­ ing off the televisions, radios, and my tele­ phone conversations have been limited. The results have been amazing. My rela­ tionship with God has become more inti­

W

E ALL GET STUCK IN PATTERNS; many of us are reliving something over and over that has been with us since childhood. Some patterns can feel as if we are in some kind of nightmarish prison and unable to leave. We’ll watch ourselves getting up at 3AM and eating leftover cake or cookies night after night (wait - that’s not JUST me, right?), ending up in the same relationships over and over - hoping each time will be different, ending up in the same kinds of jobs or money situations over and over, and not having a clue on how to break the pattern and step into a new (and better) one.

3CONTEMPLATION

I have repeatedly fallen back into old patterns throughout my life. This is why I feel perfectly qualified to bring this to your attention today, as I am a bonified expert in falling down and getting back up again. I was inspired to write about this now because I’ve just re­ cently gotten up again, and I’m gaining a lot of awareness on this that I wanted to share with you. Of course I can only speak from my experience here, but I’ve found there are 5 key elements to breaking old habits and patterns that are no longer serving you.

This is what you do with that aware­ ness. Remember, you must contemplate what you want to cre­ ate, not what you want to avoid. When you are contemplating, you can ask yourself questions like “how is this new habit serving me?” “How can I make this easy?” And “How do I feel when I’ve done this, and what impact is this having on my life?” It’s really hard to lose your momentum completely when you’re asking yourself questions like this.

Let’s face it - it can be much easier making changes with a strong support system. A support system con­ sists of two main categories. A personal support system is first. This is your friends, the loved ones in your life. Keep in mind that just because someone is a friend or family member doesn’t mean they’re a part of your support system. These are the people that sup­ port who you really are and what you’re up to. Many of us feel lucky when we find one person who does this. If you take having a support system serious­ ly, you may need to get out and make some new friends. When you are thinking about your support system, ask yourself these ques­ tions: 1. Can I fully share my visions and dreams with this person and have them be supportive, and tell me I can do it? 2. When I’m having a bad day can I trust this person to hold space for that and offer what I ask for? (asking is important never assume someone knows what you need. If you do ask, can this person be there in this way?)

COMMITMENT First and foremost, you have to be com­

mitted. If you go into any change half-heartedly, the chanc­ es of success are slim. When you want to do something different­ ly in your life, and you’ve beat your head up against the wall for the last time and DECIDE right then that you are ready to commit and end the struggle - this is the first and most es­ sential ingredient. When you know that you’ll do what it takes, you have the fuel you need to begin your journey.

4SUPPORT

I was inspired to write about this now because I’ve just recently gotten up again

Once you’re committed, you have to turn up that awareness a notch or two. Meaning, that when you are breaking a pattern, no matter how committed you are at some point you will feel pulled back into your old pattern. This is the most important time to “observe” what you’re doing. Watch your­ self - notice what’s happening. If you’re trying to say, exercise daily - you’ll get super committed and then a few days in your brain will try to give you all kinds of reasons why you can’t exercise today. Instead of buying into that - notice what sets you off. Notice when it feels difficult - but don’t let it take you out of the game.

3. Is this person a person who is primarily positive or primarily negative? In the spirit of “you attract that which you

Make a plan, write it down and be SPECIFIC. This will help you so much, you don’t have to waste time figuring out what to do and trying to remember. When we’re trying to form new hab­ its and let go of old ones, be­ ing very clear on what to do is imperative. The best way to be very clear is to write down what you want to do, and put it in a place you can see it! You can do this. You have all the power inside of you at any moment. Today is a new day, you have a new chance. You know more today, you’re wis­ er and have more experience. Most of all, you deserve noth­ ing but the best!

When you’re doing a lot of change, you’re going to have your ups and downs. When you have someone that even says “hey, I believe in you” - that can help lift you up when you really need it. Every outfit I owned had to match and coordinate. My shoe col­ or had to match my purse color. My blouse and accessories had to compliment my suit. I even coordinated my pantyhose and lingerie to match my outer clothing. I can’t even begin to tell you the thousands upon thousands of dol­ lars I have spent in my life time on designer clothes; St. John, El­ len Tracey, Jones New York, Raul Blanco, Coach, Louis Vuitton, and Bally. Because I did not know who I was, or more importantly “whose” I was, I sought validation in all the wrong areas. What I wore and what I drove were important to me . . .then. I looked darn good on the outside, but I was all broken and hurt­ ing on the inside. The words those adults spoke about me as child still haunted me as an adult. It manifested into low-self esteem. Not having my dad in my life left a huge void in my heart, (daugh­ ters need a father’s love and approval to be whole woman). Subse­ quently, I looked to men to fill the void my dad’s absence left. That is not a responsibility that I should have expected any man to fill. As a result of having low self esteem, I wound up in some toxic and painful relationships. I was not always treated with the respect that all women deserve. But how could I expect men to treat me well if I felt abandoned and did not feel good about myself? Being a bookworm and history buff, I remembered a quote I read from El­ eanor Roosevelt, “No one can make you feel inferior without your permission.” That was my wakeup call. I began to fervently seek God. I prayed and asked him to heal me of my inadequatecies, self-doubts and low self esteem. What I found is that every human being has worth and value to God. God showed me that even a broken vessel like me is useful to Him. A friend sent me a very powerful and life-changing email. It was the story of an African woman who had to walk miles to the village well to get water for her family. She had two pots she carried on a stick across her shoulders. One pot was brand new and always re­ turned completely full. The other pot had several small cracks and returned daily only partially full. endra didn’t know where to turn. All she knew was that the pain throbbing on the side of her head seemed to intensify as she tried to pull herself up from the floor after Sam pushed her into the wall again. Her chil­ dren once again witnessed their strong father hitting her out of frustration and anger. If she reported this to authorities she would lose her beautiful home in the gated community envied by her girlfriends. hile most women don’t chose shoes based on their life-al­ tering potential, there re­ mains an unmistakable bond between a woman and her footwear. In short, women are shoe-obsessed. Psychologists have vigorously sought the hidden meaning of shoes. Fashion critics agree with the claim that the female shoecollector is a frustrated traveler, while oth­ ers believe she is symbolically searching for enlightenment. “It may even be simpler than that”, says a fashion critic. of shoes “might not cure a broken heart or soothe a tension headache, but they will relieve the symptoms and chase away the blues”.Whatever the reason, women love their shoes. In 2003 alone women in the United States spent a whopping $16 billion on footwear. Women line up around the block in all types of weather if they catch word of a shoe sale, and know that a new pair of shoes is often the best way to attain a style makeover - after all, they won’t make you look fat and your size rarely shifts like it does with a basic pair of blue jeans!

Women haul themselves around in them with the belief that the shoes make themselves ap­ pear taller, their legs longer and their faces smaller in proportion. Stylish young women have always been willing to put up with a lit­ tle discomfort for fashion’s sake. A recent study published in the Journal of Epidemiologists and Public Health shows that women who wear high heeled shoes may actually be protected from knee joint problems, as there was a link between reg­ ular dancing in three inch heels and a re­ duced risk of knee problems. Health benefits aside, pop culture has given shoes a leg up in popularity. In The Wizard of Oz, the Good Witch gave Dorothy sparkling ruby red pumps as a reward for knocking off one of the Wicked Witches. Those shoes gave her a whole new persona, and she was able to courageously find her way home (alright, this may be stretching it a tad).

HEALTHY LIVING {Recipe of the Month} Five-Spice Salmon Description Sometimes in life we want subtle, but other times we long to be overwhelmed. In the creation of five-spice powder, the Chinese gave us that chance. With fennel, cloves, cinnamon, star anise, and Szechuan peppercorns, we get to taste sour, bitter, sweet, pungent, and salty all at once. If you’ve never tried five-spice powder before, you might want to halve the amount, or your taste buds might just blow a fuse! Serves 4

almon is a solid choice for Women seeking a life of healthy food choices. Fish oils in salmon and others including, bluefish, sable, albacore and trout con­ tain Omega-3 fatty acids, which have been shown to lower blood cholesterol and inhibit the formation of blood clots that lead to heart attacks.

Selecting Salmon Next time you head to the fish counter to buy salmon, consider choosing the wild variety instead of farmed. According to a report published in the journal Science, farmed salmon contain more potentially dangerous toxins than salmon caught in the wild. Researchers analyzed 700 wild and farmed salmon bought in 16 different cities in Europe and North America and found that farmed salmon contained unusually high amounts of in­ dustrial by-products, pesticides, and suspected cancer-causing agents known as polychlo­ rinated biphenyls (PCBs). What causes the contamination? The food given to the salmon while in captivity is contaminated with PCBs. How can you tell the difference between wild and farmed salmon? The most reliable meth­ od is to ask the fish purveyor. If that’s not possible, or if the seller isn’t sure, check the col­ or. You’re probably familiar with the light pink color of farmed salmon — wild salmon is a brighter, deeper shade of red. The price may also be a giveaway — farmed salmon is less ex­ pensive than wild salmon because it is more widely available. Finally, don’t let these findings stop you from eating salmon altogether. It remains a great source of heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Just keep in mind that it may be safer to “go wild.” And if you can’t find wild salmon, try getting rid of some of the fat — where PCBs accumulate — from farmed salmon by removing the skin and grilling the fish. Another convenient option is canned or pouched salmon, which is almost always wild.

1 1/2 teaspoons finely grated lime peel 3 tablespoons fresh lime juice 2 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil 4 teaspoons finely chopped fresh ginger 1 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder 1/2 teaspoon sugar substitute 1 pound salmon steaks, cut into 4 equal pieces 8 cups fresh baby-spinach leaves 2 cloves garlic, pressed

Instructions In a 2-quart dish, combine the lime pe­el, lime juice, 1 teaspoon of the oil, ginger, five-spice powder, and sugar substitute. Add the salmon and turn to coat. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes. In a 3-quart microwavable dish, combine spinach, garlic, and remaining 1 teaspoon oil, tossing gently. Cover with plastic wrap and microwave for 2 minutes, or until the spinach has wilted. Drain and keep warm. Lightly oil a grill rack. Preheat the grill to medium-high. Remove the salmon from the marinade and place on the grill rack. Brush the salmon with additional marinade. Close the grill cover and cook for 4 minutes. Open the grill cover, turn the salmon, and brush with marinade. Close the cover and cook for 4 minutes longer, or until the salmon flakes easily. Discard any remaining marinade. To serve, evenly divide the spinach among 4 serving plates and center the salmon on the spinach beds.
