At Colorado Springs Cryotherapy, the vibe is fun, relaxing, and—well, cool! While a client smiles and relaxes in a roomy spa chair, another clientis having a session in the whole-body cryotherapy machine. Cryotherapy(literally, “cold therapy”) is a technique that briefly exposes the body to

extremely cold temperatures for therapeutic purposes. Voted Best Spa/Salon

for 2018 in the Colorado Business Journal, Colorado Springs Cryotherapy delivers the results their clients desire.

Colorado Springs Cryotherapy owner Greg Von Berg had endured years of knee pain as a result of extensive knee surgery in the 1990s. “It ached with the weather change, hurt with sports. I just lived on ibuprofen, which wasn’t good.” Greg tried a cryotherapy session in Denver to see if it would help his pain. “After the fourth session, the knee pain was gone, and it never came back,” he recalls. He had recently taken an early retirement from a financial management firm and was looking for a new business opportunity. He asked around and was amazed

to find so many fans of cryotherapy. “Everyone said they slept better and got pain relief—in their shoulders, knees, back.” After some more research, Greg decided to open Colorado Springs Cryotherapy. He now serves a wide range of people, including athletes seeking workout recovery, people who want to lose weight or inches, and people who are looking for pain relief.

“I’ve done a lot of research on low-level inflammation,” says Greg. “The medical community is finding that inflammation is the root cause of almost everything that can go wrong with us.” Cryotherapy helps by interrupting the inflammatory

pathway. Typically, a series of four or five sessions in close succession leads to the best results, Greg notes. After that, sessions are for maintenance. Colorado Springs Cryotherapy is the only place in the state to have the whole-body cryotherapy machine, which uses both hot and cold temperatures. It features eight different settings, so it can be set for each client’s individual needs.

Greg explains how cryotherapy can boost weight loss by temporarily increasing your metabolism. “It raises your metabolic rate for 10 hours after a three-minute session. You burn 600–800 calories in the 10 hours after a session.” Greg offers a weight loss program that combines the use of a metabolic testing machine, cryotherapy, and a diet and exercise program. “The weight loss program is paid week to week,” he says. If you don’t lose weight, he won’t charge you!

Cryoskin is a machine that permanently removes fat. Fat cells are very susceptible to cold, Greg explains—the problem is getting through the skin without harming the tissue. With Cryoskin, the client lies down on a comfortable spa table for a 28-minute session. A special gel is applied to the skin, and this gel conducts the cold through the skin to the subcutaneous fat. “The cold destroys the fat cells, and then they are eliminated through the lymphatic system,” Greg notes. “It kills 38 percent of the fat cells— permanently! It is intended for people who are within 30 pounds of their goal weight but want spot treatment for problem areas. It took one inch off my waist in one session.”

Celluma phototherapy is a light therapy treatment that works at the cellular level. These machines are used for spot treatment for pain. They are often used for anti-aging and acne treatments, as well. Cryofacials, which stimulate collagen and elastin, are also offered at Colorado Springs Cryotherapy. “A cryofacial tightens the pores, lifts the skin, and gets rid of bags under the eyes. It’s gentle and extremely relaxing,” Greg says. This is an extremely convenient, 10-minute treatment. Clients can even do it with makeup on, while out running errands, or on their way to work.

Client Leslie Mulvey is thrilled to share the experience she’s had with Colorado Springs Cryotherapy. “The owner and staff are amazing! I have been coming to Colorado Springs Cryotherapy for about seven weeks,” she shares. “It has helped relieve my back and hip pain. I sleep well. I have lost 25 pounds, and it has even decreased my cellulite.”

That’s the kind of thing that Greg loves to hear. “I’m helping people,” he says. “I’m helping their health.” That’s why he got into the cryotherapy business, and he feels that reward is priceless.
