Who Else Wants To Actually Achieve Our Goals Next Year?

Who Else Wants To Actually Achieve Our Goals Next Year? The retail nature of Christmas irritates me. But I have to be honest, it’s a great opportunity these days to see family, and with the way modern life is, we don’t seem to make the opportunity as much as we should. I feel the same about setting goals and New Year’s Resolutions. How many people actually stick to them really? But the fact is it’s an opportunity for reflection and planning. You have to do it sometime right? I know I didn’t meet some of the marks I wanted to this year. So let’s reflect on 2016 and see what went right and what could be improved on so we can keep it real with ourselves and get some growth in the New Year.
Let’s Start With Making A List I really find just thinking about things doesn’t quite cut it. You need to have it in front of you. So get a piece of paper and make 2 columns, “Goals that I achieved” in 2016 and “Goals I didn’t”. For me for example I have my blog up and running and I’m really happy with what I’ve learnt so far. I’m stronger in the gym and I’m going more regularly. However I’m not drinking 2L of water a day which is what I wanted 12 months ago, my morning routine has stopped and financially I’m not quite where I wanted to be by this time. That’s cool.
Be Real With Yourself One thing we have to do when we reflect is really look at our year and ask ourselves why did we achieve this goal and why did we not achieve that one. For me, showing up to the gym was a great start but it’s not enough if I want to reach my fitness goals. Am I giving it priority and putting in the effort. Why not?

Who Else Wants To Actually Achieve Our Goals Next Year? Ask yourself why this may not have seemed like a priority, what could you do to give yourself incentive to achieve this goal‌ and even if the goal is important in the first place. Exercise obviously is, but do you have to do a heavy weights routine? Would you prefer yoga? Did you stop and reflect on your strategies? Seek help? Even try (oops)? The point is, if you want to actually create change in your life, you have to get to know you and work out kind of how to trick yourself and create incentive. Look at your mindset – are you thinking positively about these new goals or do they seem like a drag. If you are finding difficulty getting enthusiasm for them, are you just doing them because you think you should? (such a naughty word!)

Who Else Wants To Actually Achieve Our Goals Next Year? Love Yourself Now One massive reason people don’t achieve their goals is because they don’t accept themselves as they are right now. I know this can seem like a paradox, but you have to be okay with where you are right now in your journey. Perfectionism is over rated, and we know the pictures of the pretty young women on magazine are photo shopped. The practice of self-love is a foundational cornerstone in you creating positive change in your life.
Don’t Delay Your Happiness And this comes from the last point. A lot of goals take longer to accomplish than we first realise. Be grateful for what you do have now and you will attract more things to be grateful for. The only power you truly have is right in this present moment. You don’t have power of the past – it’s done, and the future is probably nothing like what you expect it to be – so live now. I’m not quite sure who came up with this but I use it all of the time- I ask myself, “Will this matter in 1 month, 1 year, 10 year?” If the answer is no, then let it go.

Who Else Wants To Actually Achieve Our Goals Next Year? I spoke to an older gentleman one time a few years ago and I never forgot his serenity. He said to me that if life has taught him anything it’s that 98% of things work themselves out. And they do. The sun still rises in the morning.
Simplify Your Life I’ve really been doing this a lot because damn! You can spiral into some complicated messes these days! Just have a look at your life and write down where you can trim up. I don’t just mean physical possessions, but I also mean habits and chores. Do you really have to cook absolutely everything from scratch using fresh herbs and spices etc? Eating simply seriously shaved a massive amount of wasted time for me.
Your Daily Habits = Success Tony Robbins says this all the time. It’s not what you do; it’s what you do every day that matters. So what new habits can you create to achieve your goals? What little bit can you do every day to get you there by the end of 2017? What is the one thing you can do every day that will be most pivotal? You have to keep it simple and achievable or else you won’t do it. And you can only make so many changes at a time. So let’s say you want to start with drinking more water and doing yoga in the mornings (okay this is what I’m going to do). I have heaps of other goals, but I know how incredibly powerful creating those 2 habits will be if I can start them off. It’s only discipline in the beginning, then after time it simply becomes a habit. And it’s like taking medicine – you feel great until you stop it and then you realise what it was really doing for you.

Who Else Wants To Actually Achieve Our Goals Next Year? You Have To Be Patient I know that’s not very modern but it’s the only way to do it. If you want to creat e lasting positive change in your life, then you need to look at the big picture. Life is both long and short, but that’s why it’s good to think about what is the one thing that would make the biggest difference to your life and start with that. And make it enjoyable! Frigg me who needs another chore! I don’t like drinking water but I know if I add some lemon peel to it then it tastes nicer. Do whatever it takes!
Sooo…. I swear sometimes the thought of doing something causes more angst than actually doing it (like blogging sometimes haha). Let’s take this opportunity to reflect and grow. I know it seems cliché but nothing changes if nothing changes. This is your journey and you alone a responsible for it. The only thing you have to do when you are making a habit, is do it today. That’s your only responsibility. Just get it done today – now if you can. Then tomorrow your responsibility will be to do it today…. And then change begins.
