RE: Letter of Reference for Stephanie Wong
To Whom It May Concern:
Stephanie Wong was employed by Farrow Partnership Architects Inc. from January until April 2014 as a junior architectural assistant. During her term, Stephanie was involved in a wide range of design and production tasks across several project types. Her first assignment included master plan and massing studies for a healthcare organization looking to consolidate services across three sites. This project included block and space planning for over 4.3 million square feet of health and related programming. She also participated in the design development / construction documentation for an independent school project and concluded her term as a member of a large design team working to develop design and construction documents for a downtown Toronto hospital as part of a Public Private Partnership bid submission. During this time, Stephanie was seconded to a partner architectural firm to complete this effort. Stephanie also assisted the marketing department in the production of an education related brochure and proposal submissions. Stephanie has proven herself to be a valuable and reliable team member. In all assignments, she was able to move fluidly between various softwares, project types, rolling deadlines and project scale requirements with ease. Additionally, she demonstrated a both a willingness to learn and offered to work additional hours when necessary without request. This effort gave senior managers a confidence in her ability to meet the project deliverables. Stephanie has proven herself to be a very reliable and highly effective team member. FPA would definitely extend another offer of co-op employment if she was interested in returning.

PEKKIHUS ENVIRONMENT GROUP PROJECT PARTNER: ALAN SONG
In the cold arctic climate of Reykjavik, Iceland, it was important to create a building that both reflects the local vernacular architecture and continues the trend of sustainability in the region. This building is a completely portable, prefabricated wood structure that relies on passive strategies in achieving comfort. Waste treatment and rainwater collection tanks are stored underneath the landscaping of the site whereas the photovoltaic equipment is stored within the structure itself.Through its form, the building becomes an architecture where the walls and roof become indistinguishable. The gabled roof is punctured with a series of large sky-lights along the southern and northern axis that allows light to penetrate within and ventilate the space.

During the day, the space acts as a classroom space for rural communities and during the night or on weekends, the open floorplan allows for a variety of different uses such as a soup kitchen, community gathering space, or even a church. With this in mind, we have tried to create a new modern vernacular that is easily reproducable and assembled for small communities in the upper northern

ACADEMY OF NATURAL SCIENCES (SAN FRANCISO) CASE STUDY PARTNER: CHARLES KIM
Currently situated at the Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, the California Academy of Sciences, originally the California Academy of Natural Sciences, was founded in1853 with it’s first museum at the intersection of California and Dupont street in 1874. As a learned society for original research up until the 20th century, it was the frontier of it’s kind to open in Western U.S. with aims to create a systematic survey of the State and it’s production. It was not until 1916 that the Academy moved to the North American Hall of Birds and Mammals in Golden State park, with additions of the Steinhart Aquarium and Simson African Hall in the 1930’s and the Science Hall and Morrison Planetarium in the early 1950’s. With severe damages after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, plans were underway to rebuild and repair the Academy as well as to make it seismically stable and up to modern building standards. A complete overhaul was decided as there was considerable work to be carried out; the replacement project was executed by design architect Renzo Piano, with construction beginning 2005 and it’s reopening in 2008. The $500 million building was at the forefront environmentally friendly design, LEED Platinum certified, with features such as a 2.5 acre green roof, photovoltaic cells, natural lighting in 90% of occupied spaces, rainwater for irrigation and the use of recycled concrete, steel and insulation from recycled denim. The academy went on to win the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Award for Excellence for the Americas region in 2008, as well as the Holcim Award Silver for sustainable construction projects for the of region North America in 2005.

Junk is a group effort in transforming an unused and undesirable space into one habitable by the community. Located on an empty site, our group aimed to create compact living units with parking on the ground and pedestrian acces above. A suspension bridge was created to accomodate the two parties of traffic as well as to create a link between the units, the roof top gardens and its residents. 7

COUNTRY DAY SCHOOL VAUGHAN, ONTARIO
The Country Day School is an independent university-preparatory located in a community north of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Farrow was selected to complete the planning and design for this project. The renewal and expansion of the Senior School will provide a focus for kindergarten to grade 12 students that greatly enhances the overall learning environment. The new Senior School program includes classrooms, science laboratories, a library, art rooms, administration, guidance and staff offices, common areas and rooms, washrooms, change rooms and storage rooms. A new 400-seat dining hall will include on-site food preparation or catering, loading and storage areas.

Construction of the site has begun and is anticipated to be in use by September 2015 for the upcoming school year.

KAPLAN CARDIOLOGY CENTRE GEDERA, ISRAEL
The Kaplan Cardiology Centre in Israel will be at the forefront of medical science and a leading research facility upon its completion. It will not only house a in-house patient units, but as well as rehabilitation facilities and various labs and it’s own ER entrance. Currently in its master planning and design phase, the scope of work thus far included coordination with local architects, the board as well as the lead designer, Tye Farrow. The facade of the building echoes its program and is shown in a ‘pulsating’ rhythm as illustrated in the mullions .Main entrances to the building have also been highlighted through the use of large rotating glass doors, and double height atrium to allow for more natural lighting.

CHITALAND TOWER INDONESIA
The Chitaland Tower will be a the main landmark in the new city centre of Jakarta, Indonesia as the headquarters of PT. Chitaland Perkasa, a testament to their history and legacy. At a staggering 34 stories, the tower will be used mostly for office spaces with the first two levels dedicated to reception, a feature restaurant and cafe. Entrance to the building wiill be located on the ground level with parking below ground. A pergola was designed specially to allow for outdoor events and as a space of congregation for the public in connection with the streets and the users of the site. The concept of the tower revolves around a pivoting glass facade. where the floor plate of each level not only pivots at a singular point but moves as well along the facade. This allows for an almost spiral extrusion of the base, and creates a most subtle but everchanging facade movement as pedestrians and vehicles pass the Financial Triangle. During my stay at Arquitectonica I worked on the material pallette, coordinated renders with the outsourced firms, contacted contractors and helped with the submission package and presentation.
