NOVEMBER 13, 2021 | JOHNSON STADIUM AT HANES FIELD | WOODBERRY FOREST SCHOOL

WOODBERRY FOREST SCHOOL

November 13, 2021

Dear Alumni, Parents, and Friends: Welcome to the 120th edition of the Woodberry Forest School–Episcopal High School football game. The Game is an event that both schools and their alumni eagerly anticipate each year, and we are happy that you have joined us at Woodberry to enjoy the competition and to share in the pageantry of this special event. As most of you know, this is one of the oldest high school football rivalries in the nation. The Game has always been marked by competitive play, admirable sportsmanship, and even results. I encourage you to support the players on both teams as they continue a remarkable tradition. We hold The Game in trust for the boys who will play for years to come. Cheer them on towards the goal of becoming honorable men, on the football field as well as in life. Fierce and friendly competition among rival schools with a shared commitment to excellence will assure that every boy and every fan leaves the field today proud to have been a part of The Game, no matter what the outcome may be.

Yours sincerely,

Byron C. Hulsey ’86

THE CAMPAIGN FOR THE BOYS Last night we publicly launched the Campaign for the Boys to strengthen Woodberry’s unique culture and double down on what makes a Woodberry education different from any other in the world. All-boys. All-boarding. A belief that boys learn best in an environment where they can form deep relationships with peers and teachers. A commitment to living and learning in a culture of intellectual thoroughness and moral integrity. The Campaign for the Boys will ensure the Woodberry experience is available and affordable for all families. At the successful completion of the campaign, Woodberry will have secured its place among a handful of the strongest boarding schools in the country, ensuring a national presence and allowing the school to serve generations of boys yet to come. To honor the boys who came before us, those here now, and those yet to come, this campaign will address three priorities:  Funding tuition assistance guarantees the school’s long-term sustainability and addresses affordability for all families.  Supporting the faculty and staff helps Woodberry hire — and retain — men and women who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of young men.  Restoring the Walker Building reminds us that while we shape physical places, they also shape us, and that Walker has always been at the heart of a Woodberry boy’s experience.
