Leicestershire Pinewood Pioneers: Our Action Project We ran a Woodcraft Folk Action Project in 2011 which linked to Send my Sister to School, a campaign on the Millennium Development Goal to ensure primary education for all children. Did you know over half of the 67 million children out of school around the world are girls? We spent a day washing cars to earn money to buy food instead of going to school and also raised money for the campaign selling home-made ‘cakepops’ and running games at a local fair. We made 2 films about our project and sent them to the Send my Sister to School campaign. One of our films is also now being shown to the public on the ‘Big Screen’ in Leicester for six months! Finally, we met our local MP, who we persuaded to pledge support to the campaign and to ask a question about the issue of girls’ education around the world in the House of Commons. During the project we developed our budgeting skills as we worked out how to spend our Action Project grant, and our organisational skills as a group. We also learnt how to make films and perfect cakepops!
