Welcome to the PassDiaryBook. This is a space for you to record anything you’ve done in Woodcraft Folk where you got involved a bit more than you already were. It could be running an activity for your group, taking on a new role at camp, helping run a project, representing Woodcraft Folk on a march or a stall – any way that you’ve had your say, developed your skills or affected the way Woodcraft or your community works. This book was invented by the TREE Steering Group, a mix of young people from around the Folk, who wanted to give you somewhere to note down your journey through Woodcraft Folk, and celebrate all the times you get involved in how it works – how your group runs, how a project works, how the whole organisation develops. Feel free to treat it as a passport, a diary or a scrapbook – or a mixture of all three. Sketch and scribble stuff you’ve done, stick in photos, record memories of the highs and lows… you could even get other people’s comments on new things you’ve done. Woodcraft Folk would love to hear your stories too – either email us about a particular activity you’ve been involved with, or send us your PassDiaryBook and we’ll turn your favourite pages into a poster and send it to you (with your PassDiaryBook of course). Blue skies, The TREE Steering Group tree@woodcraft.org.uk.

group Activity Here is an activity you can do at a group night, after your group has done something interesting. You could run it after a camp, a project or any activity where everyone had to get stuck in and take on a role or responsibility. Use it to find out what people learned about each other, and how people appreciate each other’s skills and strengths.

Activity length: 30 mins You will need: -A4 paper -tape -pens

What to do: Explain to everyone that you’re going to think back to the activity the group did recently, and remember as much as you can about the others in the group. Now help everyone stick a piece of paper on their back and make sure everyone has a pen. Ask everyone to wander round the room, in silence, and stop to write positive comments on each other’s backs. For example: • Tell someone you had a good chat with them • Tell someone a skill you noticed them using • Tell someone they cheered you up or helped you with something difficult • Describe what someone brought to the group with their attitude or actions You could ask people to reflect on something more specific to the project/activity you’ve just done, for example how has each person changed as a result of working together on the project. Everyone should try to comment on as many people’s backs as possible. Keep it anonymous if you can. Stop when everyone has a few nice comments on their back, and invite everyone to take off their piece of paper and have a read. Finally, sit in a circle and invite people to share anything on their page that surprises them, or that they’re particularly pleased with. People can keep their page of compliments to use in their PassDiaryBook and to help them feel confident about taking on more challenges.
