CELEBRATING In January 2017 Wood’d is turning 5 years old. This goal is reached with passion that most of designers would describe with working nights spent in dusty labs, looking for better materials, better techniques and defining the smallest of the details. But also aperitifs, dinners, late-night flights that led us meeting new designers, photographers, illustrators and artist from all over the world, giving the best asset they could give to a company: different perspectives.

EMBRACING A WIDER LIFESTYLE What we want is to improve the relationship we have with the media we are surrounded by. We started 4 years ago designing what we considered a better iPhone case, replacing cheap plastics with the best wood essences. Including new materials such as aluminum, bronze, brass and silver. Our aim was to design a case for the new millennium designer. Our goal is to improve the relations we have with the media we are surrounded by. Now we need to shift these values to all the media we interact with. From the pen we’re
holding when sketching new ideas, to the notebook we always keep with ourselves. Because, also if everyone seems to affirm the opposite, ink and paper will never be totally replaced. We want to share our efforts to set a proper workspace, because clear thoughts need an inspiring environment to be developed. We want every tool to be the right tool, so we can focus on what really matters. We want Wood’d to be the support of the new as the old media, because nothing could be as satisfying and calming as taking off from technology, for a little time.

OFF THE SCREEN We are from 25 to 30 years old. We were 20 when Facebook hit our screens, around 10 when google registered its domain. We grew up with monitors and digital culture. We never really knew the era in which design was mostly analogical, when projects could start and be completed with ink and
paper. We are not being melancholic, we are just facing facts. But as time goes by and experiences grow, the need of getting off our screen is getting bigger and fundamental. So is the need of tools that could help us find our balance when we shut down our monitors. And in this exact space is where we want to set in.

In the last 4 years we’ve designed more than 200 iPhone cases. Mixing illustrations with classic graphic design, photography with varnishing techniques. But it’s now time to shift the design process to you, using what the digital can offer.

It’s not a long time that you can customise your cases on woodd.it. It’s not an easy process to manage, the most difficult part was to design a system in which you could decide wether you like your case minimal designed or not, that you could also choose the shapes of the graphics, the colors and the wood essences. And, just in case, add a small text wherever you want on the surface.

ABOUT WOOD’D Wood’d is a lifestyle brand of covers and wooden accessories. Founded in January 2012 thanks to the creative and productive skills of two brothers, Andrea and Stefano Aschieri. The brand is characterised by the interaction between traditional and innovative production processes. Their catalogue includes covers for smartphones and tablets, docking stations and hi-tech related products. Distributed in Europe, Japan, China within the most important stores such as Excelsior, La Rinascente, Brian & Berry, Le Bon Marché, Conran Shop and Beams.

To do so, we started a series of Workshops focused on digital manufacturing.
