REMINISCING THE CHARM OF WOODEN TOYSÂ

INTRODUCTION Even in the ancient lures, we hear stories of wood being used for almost everything. Many years ago even before plastic electricity was invented, wooden toys were carved into beautiful toys, which the children used to play with. These wooden toys came in my shapes and sizes and were handcrafted using special tools. These toys even had wheels, springs and moving parts. Some were puzzles while some were beautifully given a face and shape of a doll.

BENEFITS OF

WOODEN TOYS They never run out of batteries Studier than plastic toys Lasts longer More creative Are non-toxic Children love handcrafted toys

THEY NEVER RUN OUT OF BATTERIES Wooden toys are exquisite pieces of art, which included more handwork, and art. There were pieces stringed together with finely carved shapes and figures. Dollhouses had wooden carvings and finely stitched frills. They were a treat for the eyes. Wooden blocks to play were also interesting mind exercise for kids; they were hand-carved wooden pieces, which were to be placed correctly to complete a block. These toys never required batteries to operate. It did save a lot of money and the hassle to replace the batteries.

STUDIER THAN PLASTIC TOYS Traditional wooden toys had a pleasant look and feel to them; they created a stimulating and an enjoyable experience for the kids. Children playing with wooden toys found it more attractive and appealing. Also, unlike plastic toys, wooden toys would not be harmful, as they cannot easily break due to their wear and tear.

LASTS LONGER A good quality wooden toy would last longer. The ones, which were stocked by reputable retailers usually, would be of good quality and had fine craftsmanship. So the ones that were used by even your grandparents can pass on to the kids and their kids, creating heirlooms filled with joyous family history.

MORE CREATIVE With the best artistry and skill, wood is carved into beautiful pieces. It gave children a sense of belongingness towards these toys. They came in beautiful shapes and sizes making them even more attractive. With added pulleys and wheels these toys were interesting to use and served as an educational tool for children. Even professionals doing stage shows used wooden handmade puppets, which became popular back then.

ARE NON-TOXIC These toys are non-toxic and are unlikely to contain any hazardous chemicals. However plastic toys today can be potentially harmful to children to be used. Children tend to swallow plastic parts, which come off easily from toys or dolls which babies place in their mouth are risky to be used by the toddlers.

CHILDREN LOVE HANDCRAFTED TOYS Kids from all backgrounds used traditional wooden toys. They generally didn’t have any brand name or a particular name for any toy. These were workman’s figment of imagination and not an internationally promoted superhero, which came in expensive packing for only the ones who could afford. These toys bought children to a basic level and gave them a chance to play as equals.
