Welcome to the 28th season of The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. We have an exciting year ahead of us with an excellent performing arts season and the very best contemporary artists in the world playing our venue. This is the year to enhance your own appreciation of the arts, as well as your family’s at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. The 2017 performing arts season includes nine Houston Symphony performances; a full production of “The Elixir of Love” by Houston Grand Opera and Houston Ballet will feature the full production of the classic “Madame Butterfly.” Our contemporary season includes some of our returning favorites including Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, Jimmy Buffett, Chicago and Depeche Mode. We are also excited to have Chance the Rapper perform on our stage May 7 for the very first time. Chance won 3 Grammy’s this year, including the Best New Artist award. His mission of bettering the lives of youth through art so closely aligns with our own goals. We are proud to have Chance perform on our Main Stage. Guests will also notice some updates and upgraded features of The Pavilion when they walk through our new gates. You will read more about this on the following page. I encourage everyone to attend our performing arts events and become a season subscriber for only $185 per ticket. Being a season seat holder is a great way to show your support for the arts and enjoy some great performances. Come out, bring the family and enjoy this world class venue. See you on the hill.

This is the year to enhance your own appreciation of the arts, as well as your family’s at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. The 2017 performing arts season includes nine Houston Symphony performances, a full production of “The Elixir of Love” by Houston Grand Opera and Houston Ballet will feature the full production of the classic “Madame Butterfly.” On June 9, be treated to a concert and movie in one with the world premiere of Matilda In Concert. Famed film composer David Newman will conduct the Houston Symphony in his dazzling musical score live and in sync with the cult classic film on The Pavilion’s Main Stage. Steven Reineke, Principal POPS Conductor and the Houston Symphony will premiere a brand-new orchestra show created for Houston-native band The Suffers June 17. The popular hometown band brings a fresh approach to what they have coined Gulf Coast Soul. For those looking to learn more about the orchestra, on July 8, “Symphonic Sights & Sounds,” will serve as an introduction to popular classical favorites enhanced by large scale images on The Pavilion’s LED screens. Then the ever-popular book by Lemony Snicket, “The Composer is Dead” with music by Nathaniel Stookey will come to life on July 19. After the incredibly positive response to the John Williams Tribute in 2016, the show will return with added selections on September 6. Families of all ages will want to save the date for the 22nd annual Children’s Festival. On Saturday, November 11, Jack Hanna Into the Wild LIVE presented by Nationwide will perform on the Main Stage! For the full performing arts schedule, including traditional favorites Star-Spangled Salute, Hocus Pocus Pops and Holly Jolly Jingle visit woodlandscenter.org.

VENUE UPDATES

WELCOME TO THE PAVILION 2.0 An Update on Construction In May 2016, The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion Board of Directors unanimously approved a major construction plan. The new Woodforest Bank Club will replace the original structure and boast two floors of expansive seating, a catering kitchen and an outdoor patio overlooking the North Plaza. Fresh and modern canopies will become the face of The Pavilion as guests enter the venue. Additionally, a new box office at the south entrance will accommodate guests who park in one of the free lots off of Timberloch.

The new Woodforest Bank Club features two stories, three bars, an upstairs covered patio cantilevered over the North Plaza, expanded restrooms and a full-service kitchen!

All projects have been completed except for the new Woodforest Bank Club which will open later this summer. “We have been busy working during the off-season,” said Jeff Young, vice president of operations for The Pavilion. “The updates modernize The Pavilion and provide an exceptional backdrop for future concerts and events.” “Whenever we have the opportunity to take our venue to the next level we are able to grab the attention of popular artists,” added Jerry MacDonald CEO and president of The Pavilion. “When we sell out shows, our true Mission of providing performing arts and educational outreach programs truly benefits.

The brand new two story operations building houses staff offices, expanded storage and event production.

New entrance canopies welcome guests into the gates of The Pavilion. 2

RAISING MONEY

SUPPORTING LOCAL AREA NON-PROFITS Non-Profit Organizations Raise over $300,000 at The Pavilion Eleven area non-profits were honored by The Pavilion and Aramark January 6 for their long term volunteerism at the venue. Over the past five years or more, the groups have operated concessions stands during concerts, ballets and other private events as a fundraiser for their respective organization. The non-profit groups range from high school booster clubs to college sororities. “We are proud to offer fundraising opportunities to local non-profit organizations, said Jerry MacDonald, president and CEO of The Pavilion. “It’s no easy task, especially as the demand for volunteers increases to accommodate the surge of events at The Pavilion over the last five years.” Aramark grew the non-profit volunteer program to over 20 groups in 2016. Total funds earned amounted to nearly $300,000 and the highest earning group received just over $50,000 in

Members of College Park Band Boosters with their award. commissions for the 2016 season. “Our non-profit groups here are amazing and work very hard,” said Jesse Collier, general manager of Aramark at The Pavilion. “Event after event they come in eager and ready to make a positive impact on the guest experience.”

PARTNER SPOTLIGHT John Robichau grew up in The Woodlands area and graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 1996. He joined The Pavilion family early when he worked as part-time event staff for two seasons while in high school. “I was aware of the music and great concerts The Pavilion offered,” said Robichau. “But it wasn’t until 2010 when Sylvia Caracio talked to me about volunteering with Partners that I realized I could contribute in bigger ways to help bring arts education to the community.” John and his brother run the family business, Robichau’s Jewelry that their father started over 30 years ago. The hometown store has been named number one for jewelry by Woodlands Online five years in a row. John served as president of The Pavilion Partners executive council from 2012-2015. He also served on The Pavilion’s board of directors during this time. Currently, John is cochair of the Pre-Concert Fundraiser with primarily raises funds for educational outreach. “Pavilion Partners is an amazing organization to be a part of,” said Robichau. “It’s so special to see a group of people come together to make things happen for a bigger cause.” For more information about joining Partners, email Leslie Williams at lwilliams@woodlandscenter.org. 7

WINE DINNER

AN EVENING OF FOOD, WINE & ENTERTAINMENT The Pavilion Partners held 19th Annual Wine Dinner & Auction on March 26

L-R: Jerry MacDonald - CEO & president of The Pavilion, Lisa Koetting - co-chair of the Wine Dinner & Auction commitee, Randy Lowry – honoree with wife JoAnne, Carla Fay – co-chair of the Wine Dinner & Auction committee

Guests dine atop The Pavilion’s Main Stage for the 19th Annual Wine Dinner & Auction March 26.

Former Pavilion Partners scholarship recipient and SHSU freshman, Kyle Ward wowed guests with his vocal talents during dinner.

The Pavilion Partners, the official volunteer organization of The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, held the 19th Annual Wine Dinner and Auction March 26 on The Pavilion’s Main Stage. This exclusive dinner funds scholarships for local students pursuing the fine arts in higher education. This year’s event surpassed $145,000 in dollars raised for this purpose. The evening also honored Randy Lowry for his contribution to The Pavilion Partners over the last 16 years. Randy has been a member of The Partners executive council where he has served in several leadership roles including President. Until this year, he served as committee co-chair for the annual Partners Wine Dinner and Auction since 2003 where his commitment to the scholarship program helped to reach the million dollar milestone of total funds raised. “Randy was so deserving of this honor because of the time and passion he has put into The Pavilion Partners as well as the Wine Dinner and Auction,” said Lisa Koetting, co-chair of the Wine Dinner and Auction. “He is leaving big shoes to fill, but I am grateful for his mentorship and leadership throughout the years that motivate me to continue in his footsteps.” In addition to fine food and wine provided by Fleming’s

Steakhouse and Wine Bar and Flora Springs Napa Valley Family Estate, the evening included live and bid board auctions highlighting trips, wine dinners, custom-made jewelry, lavish wine baskets and more. The event also debuted a signature red wine blend with custom label. The label incorporates a beautifully sketched drawing of The Pavilion and also highlights theatre arts, one of the five fine arts disciplines supported by the Pavilion Partners Scholarship fund. The custom wine is still available for purchase by emailing Leslie Williams at lwilliams@woodlandscenter.org.
