Sponsor Spotlight

Local Jeweler Donates Prizes and Time to The Pavilion Partners The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion is proud to recognize Robichau’s Jewelry as a continued sponsor. John Robichau, owner of the store, has generously donated auction items and prizes to a variety of fundraisers and special events. Past donations include a one carat round black diamond pendant for The Pavilion Partners 2014 Pre-Concert Dinner & Fundraiser.

The Pavilion Partners is serving up a cure by participating in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light The Night Walk Nov. 2, 2014, at Market Street – The Woodlands. This is the second year Partners has participated in the event. Light The Night Walk is a fundraising campaign of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) which brings together families and communities to honor blood cancer survivors, as well as those lost to the diseases, and shine a light on the importance of finding cures and providing access to treatments for blood cancer patients. “It is important to The Pavilion and Partners give back to the community which gives so much to us,” said Leslie Williams, special events and volunteer coordinator for The Pavilion. “It also is important that we fight against all cancer and one of the ways is to raise money for research. Cancer has affected Pavilion staff and our Partners members and we want to contribute in any way we can.” Prior to the walk the team is having two fundraising events including a Spirit Night at Jerry Built Homegrown Burgers Sept. 13. Twenty percent of the proceeds go toward the team’s fundraising goal. Then Oct. 3, the team is having a Friday Night Lights Tennis Tournament and Social at The Woodlands Country Club. The fee to participate in the tennis tournament is $50 and to attend the social is $25. There is going to be music, food, margaritas and more at the event.

Librarian Thomas Takaro

Robichau’s Jewelry was founded by Jack Robichau in 1986. Familyowned and operated, Robichau’s Jewelry is a full service jewelry store, providing repairs, custom design, bridal and more. It was voted the No. 1 jewelry store in The Woodlands by Woodlands Online in 2013 and 2014.

“My dad started the business and at first I didn’t want to join him in the family business,” Robichau said. “After graduating from college and getting a job in another industry, I realized that my heart wasn’t in it and I talked to my dad about joining him. Now he’s retired and my cousin, uncle, brother and I run the store.” In addition to donating pieces for auction to Partners fundraisers, Robichau joined Partners, the official volunteer organization of The Pavilion. Robichau serves as president of the Partners board of directors as well as on The Pavilion’s board of directors. “I love being able to help out a local venue,” Robichau said. “Being able to make connections through The Pavilion helps generate business for the store. I love seeing customers from the store at Partners events. It shows just how close our community really is.” Robichau also has served as co-chair of the Pre-Concert Dinner & Fundraiser for the past four years. He cites fundraising as his favorite part of volunteering as a Partner. “I have such a great group working with me on the Pre-Concert Dinner & Fundraiser,” Robichau said. “I really appreciate everything they do to make the event a success.”

Volunteer Spotlight How did you find out about The Pavilion Partners? As a member of The Pavilion’s board of directors, I also joined The Pavilion Partners. After serving nine years on the board, I still wanted to stay involved with The Pavilion.

Name: Candi Glenn Birthplace: Miami, Florida Joined Partners: 2002 Family Background: Married to Gerald, two kids: Charlie and Mike Education: Juris Doctorate from Southwestern University, bachelor’s degree from University of California – Irvine Background: Moved to The Woodlands, Texas from Chicago in 2001, served on The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion board of directors for nine years, served as chairman from 2008-10. What is it about The Pavilion that interests you in volunteering? I’ve been going to concerts since I was 12 years old. There’s nothing like live entertainment. I also love the passion that the Mitchells had for bringing the performing arts to our community. The Pavilion is such a driving force in our community. Adults sponsor it, but it’s all for the kids and their families. Music helps kids with their education.

Kevin Sheil Joins Marketing & Education Department by Kevin Sheil

This fall Kevin Sheil joined The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, presented by Huntsman, as the marketing assistant where he participates in the marketing, public relations and education efforts of The Pavilion. He also assists in carrying the occasional heavy box.

What was it like being the chairman of the board during the renovation in 2008-09? Before Hurricane Ike hit, the board had already started looking at expansion. The tent had a 20-year lifespan and it was coming up on its 19th year. Hurricane Ike hit in Sept. 2008 and completely destroyed the tent. Sponsors and the community came together and paid for it in full, and we reopened after a 5-month rebuild in May 2009. I’m really proud that I was able to be a part of that. What is your favorite part of being a Partner? The Wine Dinner is every year and it’s so unique to have a nice dinner on The Pavilion stage. The Wine Dinner committee is so dedicated and Randy Lowry is a great leader. All of the education events like Musical Scores and Children’s Festival, I love those too. The students work so hard to be able to go to Musical Scores and it’s so exciting to see them be rewarded for their hard work. What has been your favorite concert you have attended at The Pavilion? Any Jimmy Buffett concert! I loved Aerosmith too. We were so close to them! My girlfriend touched Steven Tyler. Coldplay was great too. They had so many pianos all around the venue. What other community groups are you involved with? Gerald and I help the Montgomery County Women’s Center. We helped them get their Reaching Pines facility, which allows women to gain life management skills. We also are involved in the American Heart Association and I’m the president of the Carlton Woods Ladies Golf Association. I am very involved with The John Cooper School as well. Both of my kids graduated from Cooper. What do you enjoy in your free time? I love to golf! I’ve hit four holes-inone. That’s a big deal!

Some sponsors, like Woodforest National Bank, have been supporters of The Pavilion for almost its entire existence. A sponsor for 23 seasons, Woodforest has a presence at each performing arts event and also has the naming rights for The Pavilion’s VIP Club.

Born in Houston and raised in The Woodlands, Texas, Sheil was a frequent attendant of The Pavilion before he ever dreamed he would be working there.

The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion Sponsors Support the Arts As a nonprofit performing arts venue, The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion relies on the generosity and participation of local businesses and organizations to provide the community with the best performing arts programming in the area. These sponsors contribute in many ways, including monetary donations, providing interactive activities in the plazas during events and supplying volunteers at The Pavilion’s educational outreach programs.

Prior to joining The Pavilion staff, Sheil received his Bachelor of Arts in Communication at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, where he graduated this past May. At Trinity, Sheil served as production manager of Tiger TV the student produced campus television station as well as co-chair of “First Time Offenders” the campus improvisation and comedy group for whom he organized and promoted shows throughout the year.

Sheil currently resides in The Woodlands, where he enjoys running, writing, movies, and rooting loudly for the Houston Texans, Rockets and Astros. A lifetime fan of comedic and musical performances, Sheil is thrilled to have the opportunity to work with in the entertainment business up close.

The Pavilion Welcomes Nordstrom to the Community

Recently, Interfaith of The Woodlands revealed the 40th edition of the Interfaith of The Woodlands Community & Business Directory. The cover of the directory is a photo of The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. The Pavilion is celebrating its 25th season of presenting live music, performing arts events and educational outreach programs. Bonni Horan, director of publications & residential services for Interfaith presents Jerry MacDonald, president and CEO of The Pavilion with a plaque in honor of the directory cover.

“Being a community bank, Woodforest National Bank aligns itself with opportunities to give back to the communities we serve,” said Robert E. Marling, Jr., CEO of Woodforest National Bank. “Through The Pavilion’s performing arts programs, we are able to be a small part of enhancing the cultural enrichment of so many.” While Woodforest supports the arts through the season, Marling cites Children’s Festival as his favorite Pavilion program.

“It would be hard to choose a favorite, as all programs are exceptional in their genres,” Marling said. “The Annual Children’s Festival, with its vast number of participants, allows even more people to enjoy and experience a ‘Pavilion moment.’” Other sponsors have only recently begun supporting The Pavilion’s performing arts events. Most recently, Texas Children’s Hospital—The Woodlands signed on as the newest performing arts sponsor. “The enrichment provided by The Pavilion’s programs to the community and families in The Woodlands is extremely valuable,” said Lisa Yelenick, director of marketing and public relations for Texas Children’s Hospital. “Part of Texas Children’s mission is to play an integral role and be a committed member of the communities where we provide healthcare services.” Check out “Encore” for a complete list of all our performing arts sponsors. The next time that you enter The Pavilion gates for a performing arts event, make sure to visit the booths in the plazas and thank our sponsors for supporting the arts in your community. The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion acknowledges the financial support of The Woodlands Township that is generated by the Event Admissions Tax for its performing arts and educational programs.

Concert Etiquette The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion offers concertgoers live performing arts events in a picturesque setting featuring such world-renowned organizations as the Houston Symphony, Houston Ballet, Houston Grand Opera and Texas Music Festival Orchestra. The following information about concert etiquette will enhance your visit and help ensure that all of our guests enjoy their arts experience to the fullest. Children The Pavilion is a family-friendly venue and we love to see families at our performing arts events. However, please be courteous of both the orchestra and those around you by keeping youngsters from talking loudly and running around during the performance. Even if you are seated on the hill, loud children can be very distracting for everyone. We want all of our guests to have the most enjoyable concert experience possible. Electronic Devices Take a break from the outside world! Please turn off all cellphones and other audible electronics. Photography and videography are NOT allowed during the performances, including with cellphones, at the request of the artists. Tablets, such as iPads and Kindles, are not permitted into the venue because they are a distraction to other guests and the artists. Late Seating Fashionably late? If you arrive after a performance has started, our ushers will do their best to seat you during an appropriate pause in the program. For certain performances, and at the request of the artist, guests seated in the orchestra section might have to wait until a transition is made between songs to proceed to their seats. 13 • www.woodlandscenter.org

During the Performance Guests should refrain from entering and exiting their seats while a performance is in progress. If you must leave your seat, please proceed quickly and quietly to the nearest aisle or ask the nearest usher for assistance. Please be courteous to other members of the audience.

Applause Not sure when to applaud and when not to? A good rule of thumb is to watch the conductor. The conductor should let you know when a piece is over by lowering both arms and turning to face the audience.

Guests with Special Needs The Pavilion is accessible to guests with disabilities. For detailed information, consult our free brochure available at the Information Booths, call 281-364-3010, or visit www.woodlandscenter.org.

After the Concert Bravo! As the applause dies down, the performers will put their instruments away and leave the stage. The house lights will be turned on so guests can exit safely.

Information Booths Information booths are located at the gated entrances in the North, South and Lawn plazas. If guests have questions or concerns, they are encouraged to visit Pavilion volunteers who staff the information booths throughout the events.

To Picnic, or Not to Picnic? Picnics are welcome at all performing arts events at The Pavilion. Guests can bring in any type of food item; however, beverages can not be brought into the venue. Guests are welcome to bring empty water bottles to fill at water fountains or to purchase beverages at our concessions stands.
