IIEE 19th NMRC Updating fellow electrical engineers in the academe regarding the new trends of education in the Philippines, the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines, Incorporated Cagayan de Oro Chapter (IIEE – CDO) conducted an Academe Forum during the 19th Northern Mindanao Regional Conference (19th NMRC) last April 10, 2015. The event was participated by more than 20 fellow electrical engineers from the academe coming from IIEE Region 8. To grace the event two (2) distinguished speakers from the IIEE national shared their expertise on the topics: “Washington Accord” by Engr. Florigo C. Varona and “Impact of Outcomes Based Education (OBE) to the Electrical Engineering Board Exam” by Dr. Cirilo C. Calibjo. With the topics shared by the experts participants during the forum were able to learn that the Philippines Engineering Education is changing to an international level to compete with rest of the ASEAN nation. The old style teachers based education will now be changed to an Outcomes Based Education where teaching techniques employed are based on the student’s outcomes.

During the 19th Northern Mindanao Regional Conference a Parallel Activity of IIEE – CDO called “The Mindanao Power Forum Update III”with the theme “Privatizing Agus – Pulangi: Balancing the Interest of Stakeholders in Mindanao Grid”, were conducted. This activity aims to mainstream the current issues of the electrical power industry of Mindanao while offering possible solutions coming from some experts of the Electric Power Industry. Among the topics includes:  The Evolving Power Mix in the Mindanao Grid and the Crucial Role of the Agus-Pulange Hydropower Complex in the Long-Term Energy Outlook by Engr. Cerael C. Donggay, former Vice-President for Mindanao of the National Power Corporation (Napocor)  Privatizing the contracted capacities of the Mt. Apo Geothermal Power Plants: Rationale and Implications on the Mindanao Grid by Atty. Francis Saturnino Juan, Executive Director, Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC)  Privatizing the Agus and Pulange Hydropower Plants: An Alternative by Mr. Guido Alfredo A. Delgado, former President of National Power Corporation  The Peoples’Solutions to the Mindanao Electric Power Problem by Engr. David A. Tauli, President of Mindanao Coalition of Power Consumers (MCPC) After the presentations reactors coming from different sectors presented their insights. The reactors includes: Rep. Edgardo R. Masongsong of 1-CARE Party List and Mr. Romeo M. Montenegro, Director for Investment Promotion and Public Affairs, Mindanao Development Authority (MindDA) and executive director of the Mindanao Power Monitoring Committee (MPMC) The activity was not only participated by the electrical practitioners but with people coming from the press, media, academe, and government agencies.
