IIEE-CDO JOINS INDEPENDENCE DAY RITES The city of Cagayan de Oro commemorated two significant events in our history: the Philippine Independence Day on June 12 and the city’s Charter Day Celebration on June 15 with a big bang. The Tourism Council and the City Government of Cagayan de Oro came up with this significant event in our city dubbed as HIMUGSO which is a term that means to “give birth” as a city. This year, the holidays have been given a twist, a more significant meaning by the Tourism Council and the City Government of Cagayan de Oro. “HIMUGSO: Birthing of a Nation, Birthing a City, Birthing Tomorrow”, the theme of this year’s joint celebration, was a reference to the emergence of CDO as a city worthy of emulation. In celebration of this, and to commemorate our country’s independence, the local government, along with its partners, has prepared several activities for the 4-day holiday.
The Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines, Inc. – Cagayan de Oro Chapter actively participated the city’s celebration of the Philippine’s 117th Independence Day Celebration with the theme, “Kalayaan 2015: Tagumpay sa Pagbabagong Nasimulan, Abot Kamay na ng Bayan.” last June 12, 2015, Friday. The Flag raising with Full Military Honors started at 6:30AM at Kiosko Kagawasan, Cagayan de Oro City.
Celebrating freedom brings forth nationalism. The anniversary itself helps us commemorate the heroic deeds and sacrifices of our Filipino ancestors driving us to better ourselves and be united as one Filipino nation. Locally, it also promotes camaraderie among various government and private institutions and most of all among our fellow Cagay-anon as we join together in celebrating our freedom. Mabuhay ang Kalayaan!
