Fall has arrived and the cool temps are welcomed after the hot and humid stretch we went through. There are still golf holes open to play, so we hope to see you enjoying the beautiful fall weather and foliage.

We now have a greatly reduced guest fee of $50 Monday through Friday with no restrictions on playing times. Members are encouraged to bring up to 7 guests to play.

The Hanse restoration project is slightly ahead of schedule in spite of the rainy weather. Construction has begun on the South side of the tracks, closing holes 7, 8 and 17. The goal is to complete the project as soon as possible to give the turf more time to grow in. We thank you all for your patience during this process.

Club Dining remains open through construction and Chef just released our new Fall Menu. Stop in and check it out along with the Craft Cocktail menu by Jen.

The 10th tee will be extended toward #16. The cart path will be moved closer to the tee boxes on #16. Photo by Scott Strong.

Worcester Country Club was well represented at the 2023 New England PGA Assistants Championship.

Tyler Henning, Thomas Fernandez and Aaron Walker competed for a spot in the National Tournament in November.

Aaron Walker lead the way with a Two over par 74. This put Aaron in a tied for third place, which qualified him for the assistants national championship. Aaron will represent Worcester Country Club and the New England PGA at PGA golf club in Port St. Lucie Florida on November 16-19, 2023.

Please join us in congratulating them!

Worcester Country Club History

Donald Ross and the 6th Hole

In the late 1920’s with the improvements of clubs and the predominant use of woundbalatagolfballs, itwasbecomingapparenttogolfcoursesthroughoutthe country that added length and improvements were required. Little has seemingly changed even today. Thus, in the spring of 1929, Ross was invited back to Worcester to bring the course up to date. By the end of July, he had created sketchescallingfornewtees, changestofairwaysandaddedtrapsthroughoutthe course, etc. No hole was spared. Here are Ross’s known suggestions to the 6th hole.

“Ross proposed three changes at the 6th hole. One was to move the tee back some fifteen to twenty yards and that appears to have been done. Regrettably, the other two were not, probably because they would have been too expensive to complete properly. The basic problem with the hole, then as it is now, is that only the upper half of the flagstick is visible from the tee. The Ross blueprint called for removing part of the hillside in front of the green and using the material to raise the back left side of the green, thereby making the entire green surface visible.” Some would say this change would also make the hole more playable.
