Introducing Michael & Carolyn Grant...
Husband and wife team, Michael & Carolyn Grant have made a major impact on the WA Racing industry since turning their hand to racehorse training just over a decade ago. Both have successful equestrian backgrounds which has greatly influenced their ability to succeed in the racing industry. The horsemanship and riding skills each have developed over many years of riding and competition has extended into their ability to train their racehorses using a very hands-on approach. Michael and Carolyn began their careers in the thoroughbred industry by breaking in and pre-training horses for some of the state’s leading owners, trainers and breeders. They gained a reputation for producing well mannered and expertly educated young horses, and together they’ve broken in and carefully educated more than a thousand horses over the last decade! Since turning their hand to training racehorses, the last six years has seen them obtain a great deal of success, developing and training some of the state’s most successful gallopers. Wins in some of Western Australia’s most prestigious races, including the Group 1 WA Derby and the Group 2 Perth Cup saw Michael become
one of the states youngest Open Class trainers. As racehorse owners themselves in a substantial way, Michael and Carolyn realise the expenses associated with purchasing, breeding and racing horses. They have always taken pride in the fact that they maintain an honest and open relationship with their owners, ensuring that they are always well informed on their horse’s progress and development. Michael and Carolyn attribute their success to their hands on approach, dedicated professional staff, attention to detail and first class training facilities-all of which means that your horse will receive the very best in care, attention and training, thereby giving you the best chance to land a winner!

The annual round of yearling sales are an integral part of the Australian racing calendar as they’re the source of the majority of the big race winners around Australia. Sure enough, you can breed one yourself-and Michael and Carolyn have done that too (and can help you do the same), but the yearling sales is where most of the big race winners come from. Over the years Michael & Carolyn have had great success at the sales, selecting many outstanding yearlings that have gone on to be proven racetrack performers. This
Successful purchases such as the Group 1 Victoria Derby winner PLASTERED, and the Group 2 Perth Cup winner LORDS RANSOM, both of which Michael purchased for just $10,000 each, show that with good judgement and an astute understanding of the market, you can achieve outstanding success without spending a fortune. Other notable purchases made by Michael have been CATS FUN – winner of the WA Derby & Perth Cup, and MIGHTY ROSSA – winner of the Listed Belmont Guineas. Michael and Carolyn are always willing to back their judgement by retaining a share in most of the yearlings they purchase. Prospective owners can gain confidence in the fact that their trainer also has a vested interest in the horse and its future racing career. Would that be important to you? Michael and Carolyn regularly attend all the major yearling sales throughout Australia. They welcome any prospective owners who want to become involved in the exciting world of horseracing either as individual owners or as part of a well organised partnership or syndicate.
