Hamptons interview interiors guru Charlie Boardman.

Charlie Boardman is the founder and director of 'Bricks & Velvet' a north London interior design business specialising in mid to high end residential properties.

Tell us a little about the background of your studio?

Bricks and Velvet Ltd is a residential renovation consultancy based in Kensal Rise. Offering design and project management services for properties in and around London. It was established in 2016 by Charlie Boardman who has over 20 years experience in property development and understands that the renovation process can be overwhelming and tricky to navigate for those that don’t have the time or experience. Bricks & Velvet offer a full design and project management service that covers the entire process from the design stage, through planning applications (if required), tendering the works to contractors, overseeing the building works, right up to where the clients move back into their new homes.

What type of projects do you work on and how would you best describe your working style?

Recently we’ve been fortunate to work on a diverse range of exciting projects that showcase our team’s creativity and expertise in interior design and project management. We work with our clients to revamp their entire home to achieve a perfect blend of functionality and aesthetics whilst providing a seamless and stress-free experience. First and foremost, we commence with a thorough consultation to understand the client’s vision, objectives, and budget. This initial step allows us to align our strategies and designs accordingly. At the heart of each of our projects, our team places huge importance on understanding the unique needs and preferences of our clients. Throughout the process, open communication and collaboration with the client remain a priority, our ultimate goal is to ensure that the final design meets their expectations and comes within budget. We’re dedicated to delivering exceptional results and creating spaces that truly resonate with our clients’ vision.

Do you work with investors and landlords?

Yes, we have collaborated with investors and landlords to enhance the value and appeal of their properties. Our experience in working with this clientele has been highly rewarding. For investors, we understand the importance of maximising the return on investment and attracting potential tenants or buyers. For landlords, our focus is on optimising the functionality and aesthetic appeal of the spaces to ensure they meet the evolving demands of the market.

Looking back, is there a job that you are most proud of?

That’s a tough one, it might be cliché to say but every one of our projects offers a valuable learning experience and an opportunity for growth. There’s a particular project that stands out as one we’re immensely proud of. It was a comprehensive renovation on Eel Pie Island. This project presented a unique set of challenges, specifically as it is accessible only via footbridge which meant we had limited access to resources and potential logistical constraints. These collective experiences continually enrich our approach to future projects, making us more proficient and empathetic as interior designers and project managers.
