Tell us a little background about your architectural practice?

Following his early studies in Architecture in Cape Town, and in addition to working with top Architects in London, Mike went on to define his own expertise via MichaelJane Architecture. He is the Founding Partner and driving force having spent some years designing, building, and project managing residential developments and homes in South Africa and Europe. Mike realised his unique position after returning to the UK and recognised that his wealth of experience and immense passion for design could create a positive impact within architectural spheres. Alongside his talent is his knack for adding a real personal approach by delivering on-site consultations himself to understand each and every client’s design objectives. Together with the small team of specialists the practice is delivering innovative and creative solutions.

Do you offer pre-exchange assessments to residential clients?

We absolutely do! This is one of the things Mike loves the most about the practice. Factors such as budget, space, and lifestyle aren’t roadblocks, but instead invite a fantastic opportunity for true creativity to flourish. Mike has long since recognised the joy that the architectural process brings and to be there at the start of the process exploring every possibility is key when purchasing a property. Helping clients to understand all their options at the start with minimal to no cost involved, builds a relationship which has proven to be very successful.

What are the most popular requests from your clients?

The most frequent request from clients comes from the question “Can we afford to create our vision for additional space for our dream home within our budget?” Every client wants to realise the maximum but within reason. Matching the two is what we do!

Mike’s hands-on approach by visiting the property and meeting his clients creates understanding on lifestyle, vision and the culture behind the project. Providing multiple iterations with ideas of the budget needs, helps our clients decide on their best planning solution.

Is there a project that you are most proud of?

Mike says that there is always an element of excitement that makes him proud of the successful completion of a project. Whether it’s a loft extension for the arrival of a new family member, reinventing the old to new or designing multi-unit residential development schemes, it’s the reward of a satisfied customer that makes him most proud.
