SQD create a unique language for their clients, understanding that each person has an individual vision and preference. Equally, each interior is as individual as its owner, with light and layout creating new opportunities and discoveries. It is the mastery of this crucial element, incorporating the clients own treasured elements with unique furniture and upholstery designs, which create interiors with a personality and life, comfort and easy elegance. “NOT ONE DAY OR DESIGN IS THE SAME – AND WE LOVE THAT! EVERYTHING WE DO IS TAILORED TO THE CLIENT’S INDIVIDUAL STYLE AND REQUIREMENTS, AS WELL AS THE PROPERTY ITSELF. WE ARE A CREATIVE STUDIO AND WE’RE LUCKY ENOUGH TO WORK WITH AN EXTREMELY TALENTED TEAM OF ARTISANS, JOINERS, CONTRACTORS AND SUB-CONTRACTORS THAT IMPLEMENT OUR DESIGN. DESIGN DEVELOPING IN A CREATIVE ENVIRONMENT WITH CREATIVE PEOPLE IS DEFINITELY WHAT WE LOVE MOST.”, THEY SAID.
The SQD innovative style represents the fusion of American scale and tailoring with English wit and colour subtlety and strength. With their understanding and respect for all periods of design from antiques to midcentury, the pair create authentic and yet quirky interiors, blending old with new, enhancing all. When the studio was founded
the design duo had to familiarise themselves with a lot of aspects of the business they were not necessarily familiar with, which is always full of challenges. “However, the company is going from strength to strength, due to hard work and dedication. You have to appreciate your weaknesses as well as your strengths, and get the right people to do the right jobs”, the designers concluded. The founding partners Jena Quinn and Lucy Derbyshire are the driving force behind Studio QD and their international team
of talented interior designers. The combination of their extensive experience has enabled them to establish a strong creative workforce that collectively strives towards an innovative and creative sensibility in their design aesthetic. “Seeing our designs come to fruition is always fulfilling. For the majority of our projects, every aspect is bespoke, so there are many details and components that require constant design development over an extensive timefame. We live and breath our projects from start to finish, which means it is always a rewarding experience once the project is completed and the client is beaming with happiness.”, said the designers, when asked about what makes them feel fulfilled professionally. They have several projects at the moment, the majority in London, Hampstead, Mayfair, Richmond and Chelsea, and they’re about to embark on a project in New Orleans. Since Jena Quinn is American, it is always lovely to have projects in the states – any excuse to tap into the fabulous American aesthetic and scaling. The trends come and go, and for this, the designers tend to avoid trends and chose to go with colourful, patterned and sumptuous design “We tend to avoid trends, as we do not want our interiors to date. Having said that, it seems that colour and pattern is back! We have always embraced colour, pattern and sumptuous finishes and it’s lovely to see other interiors celebrating the same qualities in design.”. “Our studio works in high-end residential interiors and since we are lucky enough to do projects around the globe, we have an eclectic mix of clientele with their own personal interests, tastes and budget. This allows each project to have a slightly different approach to the design process which enhances the creativity of the studio,” they said.
