Close The Sale I am pretty annoyed with myself today. One of my businesses is a great online software product called Home Page Pays that is been marketed through Network Marketing. About two months ago I asked a team leader to ‘pitch’ a prospect but he did not close the sale; the prospect politely said no thanks….at the time! I was told yesterday that he had signed up but had joined another team! I was struck by a number of emotions, first I realised that I had just lost out on some decent commissions. Then, I started thinking about all the residual income I was going to lose from the prospects efforts as I know he is a brilliant marketer. I felt angry towards the ‘team leader’ who did not close the sale, but then realised that it can’t be his fault as you don’t close the sale on the first pitch all the time. It took me a few hours but I finally concluded that the fault was in fact all mine. It’s going to become a lesson that I will never forget and I will tell this story again and again to emphasise that the responsibility to close the sale was mine alone! It is also vitally important to realise that because someone says no once, it does not mean they won’t change their mind a month down the line. Going forward I am going to keep a database of who I pitch to, what their comments were, schedule follow ups and most importantly ask them for referrals. It’s an art to close the sale but you can go a long way to achieving the sale by being prepared.
Close The Sale – Learn From Your Mistakes One of the biggest reasons for success or failure in network marketing is the ability to be coachable and learn from your mistakes. MLM is a business of duplication. Those who’ve already been successful will share their secrets to success, and all you need to do is listen in and then do what they tell you. To close the sale I was told to follow up with the prospect and I did not do that. Somebody else came along and unknowingly pitched their new prospect and the prospect ‘was ready’ to sign up. I am asking myself the question why did I not follow up? Did I assume because the prospect said NO that it was a lost cause or did I just not put in the work? Network marketing has probably produced more millionaires than any other industry, and although each of those people built their businesses with different companies and using different methods, they all did one thing – WORK. MLM isn’t a get-rich-quick scheme; you’ll only get rich through hard work. And through hard work you learn how to close the sale. Do not treat your MLM like a hobby; if you treat any business like a hobby you will not get the desired results. Don’t only work your MLM business when you have spare time or feel like it. You should work it every single day! If you only have 30 minutes a day spare then make sure you use that time wisely.
Another crucial lesson to learn is not to give up too early. People expect to make $10,000 their first month, and when they don’t, they quit. It takes time to build an MLM business. You’re going to have to contact a lot of people, give many presentations and endure a great deal of rejection. It’s an art learning how to close the sale. However, it’s the person who is consistently persistent who will succeed. Home Page Pays Helps You Close The Sale
