SRAM RED: KING OF THE ROAD

What a season for SRAM RED! Only in its second season in the Pro Tour circuit, the flagship groupset from SRAM has collected some of the most prestigious trophies in Road Racing, claiming a total of 100 victories with its top five Pro Teams: Astana (Trek), Saxo Bank (Specailized), Milram (Focus), Fuji Servetto (Fuji) and Agritubel (Kuota).

Lance Armstrong returns on SRAM RED!

Perhaps the biggest story in sports is the return of Lance Armstrong to professional bike racing. For his comeback, Lance makes the ‘Leap’ to SRAM components. Armstrong: “SRAM RED is the World’s definitive road group for racing and is marked by tremendous innovation. My bike is lighter than ever and is unbelievably responsive; my new SRAM-equipped TREK Madone is the best bike I’ve ever ridden.”

Ready, set, Go! SRAM succeeds from the start

Early in the season, SRAM sponsored athletes were right on target. Levi Leipheimer (Astana) took the first win of the season with a third successive overall victory in the Tour of California, followed by the classification win in the Vuelta a Castilla y León. Alberto Contador (Astana) started off by dominating the Paris-Nice prologue and went on to win the Vuelta al País Vasco for the second consecutive time.

Team SAXO BANK changes to SRAM

Unheard of! After the start of the season Team Saxo Bank switched to SRAM drivetrain. SRAM’s first Classic win came two weeks later in Liège-BastogneLiège with star rider Andy Schleck.

Tour de France: 1-2-3

The 2009 Tour de France saw its top three stars, Alberto Contador, Andy Schleck and Lance Armstrong winning on SRAM RED equipped bikes. In our third year in the Pro Tour and the second for our flagship groupset, SRAM RED has established itself with the best performances and athletes in the grandest of Grand Tours. SRAM RED components were not short of customization, with yellow or white versions matching the winning bikes. Three weeks, four teams, 36 star riders and more than 100,000 Km of racing powered by SRAM: Team Astana, team Saxo Bank, team Agritubel and team Milram accounted for 12 days in the yellow jersey, 10 of the top 30 overall, 7 of 21 stage wins, 3 of 3 time trial victories, the white jersey, the best overall team and the yellow jersey. Chapeau everybody!

With a speed of 51,9 Km/h, the Swiss Time Trial superstar, known as Spartacus, crushed the opposition finishing 1min27secs in front of his closest opponents. From the start, Fabian was faster than the rest of the field, making the best of his top of the line SRAM/ZIPP equipment. Man and machine accomplished the ultimate goal, the perfect time trial!

The best riders trust, race and win on SRAM.

To conclude the extraordinary 2009 season; Team Astana (Trek) topped the final UCI Team rankings with a total of 1100 points, 52 points ahead of their closest rival. Adding to this group success, Alberto Contador won the overall UCI Individual World Ranking, placing yet again SRAM RED on the highest step of the podium. Team Saxo Bank and Tour de France runner up, Andy Schleck, finished 4th in the Team and individual UCI classification.

SRAM RED Domination: 75% SRAM sweep

Alistair Brownlee (GBR, Boardman Elite Tri Team) ended an incredible season of Triathlon racing with his fifth successive victory in the Dextro Energy Triathlon – ITU World Championship Series. Alistair clinched the last race on the Gold Coast (Australia) but more importantly the overall title in front of rival Javier Gomez (ESP). Brownlee becomes the first triathlete to ever win the ITU junior, under 23 and Elite titles. With this great success, the young British triathlete places SRAM RED in the spot light. Having won six of the eight Dextro Energy Triathlon stages (five with Brownlee and one with Frodeno), our flagship groupset has, yet gain, proven its superiority this season. To complete this year’s great successes, SRAM sponsored triathletes Jan Frodeno (GER) and Laurent Vidal (FRA) finished 4th and 6th respectively in the final standings.

In the men’s race, SRAM RED sponsored athletes took four of the top five places with Chris Lieto (USA / 2nd), Andreas Raelert (GER / 3rd), Cris McCormack (AUS / 4th) and Rasmus Henning (DEN / 5th).
