The steepest passenger funicular railway in Europe. A trip on the Gelmerbahn is an experience like no other, with a turquoise mountain lake awaiting you after the rattling 12-minute trip backwards up the mountain. With a gradient of 106 per cent, it is undoubtedly the steepest passenger funicular railway in Europe. Once you have reached the top, a tour around the wild, romantic Lake Gelmer or a hike up to the Gelmerhütte is recommended. The Beautiful Sherlock Holmes Trail – The audacious engineers followed the thundering waters of the Reichenbach Falls when they were laying the tracks for the goods railway in 1899. Eyeball to eyeball with the raging stream and the mighty 120-metre-high Reichenbach Falls, this heritage railway, with its 24-seater wooden carriage, an accurate reproduction of the original, climbs ever upwards. Near the summit station, three viewing terraces offer a breathtaking view of the waterfall and the Haslital. This excursion is pretty much a must for Sherlock Holmes fans. The Oberaarbahn is the latest attraction at the Grimselwelt! On this gondola ride, you sweep down low from the Grimsel Hospiz over Lake Grimsel and across beautiful moorland to Lake Oberaar. During the 30-minute trip in two stages, you can experience the breathtaking alpine panorama from a whole new perspective. Perfect for the Summer Months – In a matter of minutes, the Hospizbahn brings hikers from the Grimsel Hospiz down to Sommerloch at the foot of the Grimsel dam and to the hiking routes leading towards the Räterichsbodensee reservoir and Lake Grimsel. www.grimselwelt.ch welcome@grimselwelt.ch
