STATISTICAL STUDY Ins Collblanc SPAIN
STATISTICS: It is the part of mathematics that takes care of collecting, organizing and analyzing great amounts of data in order to determine the characteristics or the behavior of the studied collective.
STATISTICAL STUDY: It is a study where it is necessary to collect data, to organize it suitably and to analyze it in order to get conclusions.
In any STATISTICAL STUDY the following CONCEPTS turn up: -Population: it is the set of elements that are the object of the study -Individual: it is each of the elements of the population -Sample: it is the part of the population on which the collection of data is made -Statistical
variable: it is
the
characteristic
of
the
population of interest for the study - Datum: it is each of the results of the observation of the statistical variable
The statistical variables can be classified, according to the values that they take, into: + Quantitative Variable: if it takes numeric values Discreet: in those cases in which the quantitative variable cannot take intermediate values between two consecutive values Continuous: in those cases in which the quantitative variable can take any value within an interval + Qualitative Variable: if it doesn’t take numeric values
In our STATISTICAL STUDY the following CONCEPTS turn up: - Population: 73 students of the third course in our high school - Individual: each student - Sample: equals population - Statistical variable: each question of the survey Mainly qualitative variables and a discreet quantitative variable - Datum: each answer of each question of the survey

The elaboration of a STATISTICAL STUDY consists of several PHASES:
1. Conception 2. Elaboration of the questionnaire 3. Fieldwork 4. Analysis of the data and presentation of the results
1. Phase of Conception: TASKS: - Definition of the objective of the study: study what do we want to know and which statistic variables are chosen - Determination of the population and analysis of the convenience of taking a sample - Forecast of the economic costs - Design of the presentation of the results
2. Elaboration of the questionnaire: TASKS: - Selection of the data or the questions about the target variables of the study - Writing of the questions in a suitable way
3. Fieldwork: TASKS: - Selection and training of the persons who will carry out the study - Elaboration of the action plan: plan space distribution and execution time - Data collection execution (survey)
Answering the survey‌
4. Data analysis and presentation of the results: TASKS: - Treatment of the obtained data: data Tables and graphs elaboration (spreadsheet) -Revision and verification of its validity -Report elaboration
Treatment of the data‌
Our results are‌
There are more girls than boys in our sample, 55% are girls and 45% are boys
There are 39 students that have been in their capital city and 34 that haven’t
53% of the students have been in their capital city and 47% haven’t
57.5% of the girls and 48% of the boys have been in their capital city 42.5% of the girls and 52% of the boys haven’t
Almost all of the interviewed consider Madrid their capital city
70% of the students have travelled out of their country
The same percentage of girls and boys have travelled out of their country 30% of both girls and boys haven’t
Almost one third of those who travelled out of their country have been in France
43% have travelled by both boat and plane, while 16% have travelled neither by boat nor by plane
52% have travelled to 1 or 2 countries, and 41% have travelled to more than 3 countries
37% of those who travelled out of their country have also travelled out of Europe
Of those who travelled out of Europe, Morocco and China are the more visited countries
Almost all those who travelled did so with their families. Only 6% did it alone
Of those who travelled out of their countries, 65% had to speak another language
Of those who travelled out of their countries and had to speak another language, most of them used English, Arabic or French
Of those who travelled out of their countries half had learnt something about the country before going there
Of those who travelled out of their countries 82% learnt something about the country while being there
Of those who travelled out of their countries monuments and landscape are the things they enjoyed most
81% of the students wouldn’t be afraid to leave their own country
Girls seem to be more afraid of leaving their country than boys 85% of boys wouldn’t be afraid to leave their country
Of those who wouldn’t be afraid of leaving their country, most of them like travelling or are experienced travellers
Of those who would be afraid of leaving their country, 54% argue that they have their families and friends in their country and don’t want to leave them
37% of the students would like to go to America, 19% to Europe and 26% to Europe, Asia and America
Of those who would like to go to Europe, 28% would visit UK, while 18% want to go to Italy
Of those who would like to go to Asia, 52% would visit Japan, while 37% want to go to China
Of those who would like to go to America, 66% would visit USA, while 15% want to go to Canada
One quarter of the parents of the students come from another country
The countries where the parents (whose birth place is outside Spain) come from are mainly Morocco, Colombia and Ecuador
55% of the students have family abroad, and the other 45% haven’t
65% of girls have family abroad for 42% of boys 58% of boys have no family abroad
Three quarters of the students would like to live abroad later
83% of girls would like to live abroad later for 73% of boys 27% of boys wouldn’t like to leave their country
