21st World Scout Jamboree, United Kingdom 2007 - Design Guidelines/English version

Page 1

The badge/logo Colour Logos The World Scout Jamboree badge/logo should always appear complete and in the correct proportion. You should never attempt to redraw the badge/logo or retype the text. If you need the badge/logo in a different format, contact the Scouting 2007 office for assistance (jamboree@scouting2007.org).

World Scout Jamboree badge/logo in four colour process - CMYK.

Wherever possible, please use one of the colour versions. If the badge/logo is to be used on a coloured background, please ensure that it is legible. Please avoid placing the badge/logo on colours which will jar against the red border e.g. pink. In this situation, lay a white diamond underneath it to create a clear area.

World Scout Jamboree badge/logo in grey.

Mono Logos Sometimes colour isn’t available so two mono badge/ logo have been developed. The grey version is for print where different tones are distinguishable. The black version should be used for other situations e.g. faxes. For single colour print, the mono badge/logo should be used. Make sure there is enough contrast between the colour of the badge/logo and the background.

World Scout Jamboree badge/logo in black.

Size The text in the badge/logo should always be legible. In print the minimum size of the logo should be 30mm across. On screen this size should be increased as the resolution on monitors is lower. World Scout Jamboree badge/logo in blue on white, using the mono tiff file.

National Scout Organizations and Associations are also invited to use and tailor the Jamboree design element as part of their own Jamboree logos, for example by using national colours. A derivative licence is required - please see the Licencing section of this Design Guide.

Type The fonts used are from the Meta family. The three which are used for the World Scout Jamboree are:

MetaNormal-Roman (15 pt)

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ MetaNormal-Roman MetaMedium-Roman MetaBlack-Roman

abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz 1234567890

This is a licensed typeface and therefore, if not owned, will need to be purchased from a type foundry. As an alternative where Meta is not available, Verdana may be used.

MetaMedium-Roman (15 pt)

Bullet points should be small diamonds, with or without rounded corners, in either one or a mixture of all the colours in the World Scout Jamboree colour palette. For example:

abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz

This background is also available with the diamond photos in place, in A4 only. For documents where more white space is needed, a light background is available. As on this design guide, a mixture of the two is the most effective way of using the backgrounds.

Obtaining a Licence Licencing The Jamboree badge/logo and the related Jamboree design element will symbolise the 21st World Scout Jamboree to millions of people both inside and outside Scouting, and it is essential that they are used consistently and correctly. In addition, the Jamboree badge/logo and design element are trademarks and have a “brand value which can be used to generate funds for Scouting around the world through commercial activity. All usage of the Jamboree badge/logo or design element must therefore be licenced. Licences to use the Jamboree badge/logo and design element are available to recognised National Scout Organizations and can be obtained from Scouting 2007.

World Scout Jamboree badge/logo and design element The Jamboree badge is intended only for use by a nation’s contingent attending the Jamboree, and will be produced and distributed by Scouting 2007. The Jamboree logo is the same as the Jamboree badge, and is used in printed or electronic form. The Jamboree logo is always to be used exactly as described in this design guide, and no variations are permitted. The Jamboree design element can be used in any of its existing forms (as described in this design guide), or can be incorporated as part of a derivative Jamboree design produced by a National Scout Organization.

World Scout Jamboree design element

Protection The 21st World Scout Jamboree badge/logo has been registered as a trademark with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). This protection allows both the World Scout Bureau and Scouting 2007 to take legal action against any individual or entity for the unauthorised reproduction of the badge/logo. National Scout Organizations are encouraged to register and protect the Jamboree badge/logo and Jamboree design element, and any derivative Jamboree design in their own country.

Types of Licences There are three types of licences: Commercial licences, for the use of the Jamboree badge/logo or design element on products which are sold to raise money on behalf of Scouting Non-commercial use, for the use of the Jamboree badge/logo or design element on items which are used to promote and communicate the World Scout Jamboree without major financial gain Derivative licences, which are only available for the Jamboree design element, enabling National Scout Organizations to create their own Jamboree design and use it commercially or non-commercially. For more information and to obtain a licence, please contact the Scouting 2007 office at Gilwell Park in the UK, or email licence@scouting2007.org.

Obtaining a Licence Members of WOSM are authorised to use the Jamboree badge/logo and the Jamboree Design Element both commercially and non-commercially.

Non-commercial use

For commercial use a commercial licence is required and royalties must be paid.

For the non-commercial use of either logo, National Scout Organizations are requested to declare their use of the Jamboree badge/logo or the Jamboree Design Element to Scouting 2007 for historical record purposes.

Commercial Licences

Examples could include leaflets, posters, displays, and gifts.

For the commercial use of the Jamboree badge/logo or Jamboree Design Element, i.e. any item intended for sale (souvenirs, programme materials, promotional materials, etc.) a commercial licence is required and royalties must be paid (normally 10 percent of the manufacturing cost of the product.) Examples could include t-shirts, clothing, hats, mugs, commemorative items, and books. To obtain a Commercial licence, please provide the following information to Scouting 2007: Type of product. (A sample, picture or drawing of the product if possible)

Such a publication must indicate that you are licensed to use the trademarked Jamboree badge/logo or design element. The non-commercial use of the Jamboree badge/logo or Jamboree Design Element should also be consistent with a good image and the values of Scouting. When declaring non-commercial use, provide the following information to Scouting 2007: Type of product/publication. (A sample, picture or drawing of the product.)

Derivative Licences

Quantity to be produced. Name of the manufacturer. Estimated manufacturing cost and selling price if any. Name and address of the distributor if not the National Scout Organization. The product must show that the Jamboree badge/logo is a registered trademark or that the Jamboree design element is a trademark.

Derivative licences do not require the payment of royalties, and are only available for the Jamboree design element. This enables National Scout Organizations to create their own Jamboree design, based on the worldwide Jamboree design element, and then use it commercially or non-commercially.

Licences will only be granted for use on products that are consistent with a good image and the values of Scouting.

The derivative Jamboree design should be significantly different from the original Jamboree design element for example, by using national colours instead of yellow or the spectrum, or by adding additional national design elements.

The use of the Jamboree badge/logo or design element in events or other programmes involving sponsorship may be subject to payment of royalties.

National Scout Organizations are encouraged to register and protect the derivative Jamboree design in their own country.

Scouting 2007 reserves the right to cancel a licence immediately should the licensee or its designated representative not respect the terms of the licence, or their activities are contrary to the image and values of Scouting.
